My wife has a mild weight issue, which she is fixing using diet and exercise. Last night, she read about Lipedema on the internet and is sure she has it. Basically, she believes she has unlosable fat in her lower body that blocks fluid. She diets and exercises rigorously, and has lost weight, but says it isn't coming off of the thighs.

Does she need to worry /fit/? Is she doomed to have fat legs without surgical intervention? Will no amount of diet and exercise help her?

Please respond. She's in tears.
>>
Oh, and pic isn't of her. That's just a google image. She's not nearly that fat.
>>
>>37471476
it's most likely weird fat distribution.
after she's done with the cut, it will be fixed.
no need to worry.

>she is fixing using diet and exercise
she gonna make it breh. tell her that.
>>
If she believe she has lipedema, she should go to the doctor to check if she actually has it, and if there is a treatment.
>>
>>37471476
She's probably still fat, people are delusional with their weight issues and think they have some sort of special issue that causes them to be lard asses.I'm calling bullshit on this "lipedma" horseshit.
>>
>>37471503
"the cut"? Sorry, I'm new here fit. What is this?
>>
>>37471476
Does she actually track what she eats?

It is REMARKABLY easy to eat either more than you think you are, depending on your predispositions. This is the most common cause of people being 'unable' to lose or gain weight. And it's much more likely that this is the case than lipidema, which is relatively uncommon.

Also, it's impossible to say if her exercising will actually help her without knowing what it is. Also, read the sticky.
>>
>>37471476
She should go to a doctor and confirm if it is or not. In the meantime she shouldn't let that hold her back from losing weight and improving her health in general. Should she actually need surgery is a question a doctor should answer. Not webmd
>>
>>37471545
She only eats vegetables, and some meat. Generally she eats as much of these as she wants.

There's the problem. Get her to start weighing her food and counting the calories if she really wants to lose weight. The hard sell on this is that it HAS to be a long term commitment if she wants it to work.

Also: fat is lost basically in the REVERSE of the order that you gained it. So since the go-to area for fat storage on men is the stomach, then the back, then the arms, then the ass and legs, and the go-to area for women is the thighs and butt, then everywhere else, fat around the thighs and ass is often the very last that will start to disappear.
>>
Sounds like typical fat people logic. Sounds like she wants to give up.

Cutting. Reducing calorie consumption for fat loss.

Even if she has this disorder, it has several types.

And if she continued doing her research, she would find out on wiki suggesting latest researches about how reducing weight helps in dealing with symptoms (aka fatty legs).

Also it is worth to point out this is:
>little known
>under recognized
>and generally misdiagnosed as simple obesity
>mostly diagnosed in females who are also morbidly obese

So most likely she doesn't have any willpower left and is seeking ways or victims why she isn't in fault and others are...

>what do I do?
You do count calories with her to ensure she is doing it right and ALL THE TIME.
>>
If the fat isn't painful then it most likely isn't lipedema - the appearance of lipedema is exactly the same as having a pear-shaped fat distribution (which is normal for women). Also she may not be helping her health at all by losing it - fat in the lower body is apparently not a health risk in the same way as abdominal fat.

http://ajcn.nutrition.org/content/79/3/379.full
>WC (waist circumference), and not BMI, explains obesity-related health risk. Thus, for a given WC value, overweight and obese persons and normal-weight persons have comparable health risks.

http://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0002619
>The study showed that WC for given levels of BMI predicts increased health costs, whereas BMI for given WC did not predict health costs except for a lower cost in non-obese women with normal WC. Combining WC and BMI does not give a better prediction of costs than WC alone.

I'm biased because I like it, though.

My mom has this, it's not fun. She's not even overweight, 140ish for a 5'7" 55 year old female, eats healthy. She has to wrap her legs every night in compresses because of the pain, and is usually unable to walk after dinnertime. Has been to a few specialists across the country, nothing really substantial has happened.

Shit sucks, she was always very active/outdoorsy, and now she can barely get off the couch.

Unless they are in constant pain, they do not have lipidema, or however the fuck you spell it.

Lipidemic tissue has dough like qualities. Press her limb with a finger, and if it leaves a little depressed imprint then she has the right to worry about, pic related is a bit extreme but you get the idea. Also you can try measuring the circumference of her limb and then massage it but moving TOWARDS the body, and if the massage reduced the circumference then she probably has lipidema.

Kek, but I't seriously called like that in some books. And also, if anyone suffers from lipidema or has someone in family that does it i would strongly recommend looking into medical taping, I've heard it gives great results. Other than that it is advisable to reduce sodium in diet, keep the lipidemic limb elevated, and massage it often, but again - towards the body. I'm a surgical nurse and there is always a lipidema in a limb adjacent to removed lymphatic node so I deal with it pretty much every other week.

For fucks sake, take her to a doctor, or tell me she has at least some sort of PhD to seriously auto-diagnose herself...

You wife not gonna make it bro. She's already made her excuse for why she failed. Enjoy your whale of a wife and bad sex forever.
