What kind of jobs do you /fit/izens work? I'm thinking about working at UPS, 4AM-8AM M-F. Seems a little crazy, I know, but I can get 5 1/2 if I go to bed at 10, and catch up after. Will it drain me?

Correctional Officer, it's pretty boring at times.

I work a typical 9-5 office job with good pay and benefits. Engineers salary and job security. But it's boring unfulfilling tedious work.

Grad student. I'm also teaching an undergrad QM class.

I work for GNC headquarters where I have the job title "guerilla social media specialist". Most of my days I sit on the internet posting dank memes and about the sick gains I'm making from the supplements that can only be found at GNC - the greatest fitness supplement store in the world (no results guaranteed).

Animal control officer.

pretty decent job, pays 65k a year starting, and I spend my days patrolling the cities parks on a bike / foot, so thats not bad.
>>
Researcher, degree is in aerospace engineering. Work on CFD and heat transfer stuff, want to get my masters and work on rarefied gas dynamics / hypersonic aerothermodynamics with respect to reentry vehicles. Who doesn't wanna work on shit going Mach 30+?

Certified pharmacy technician and undergraduate research assistant. Maybe one day I can get a decent research job where I don't have to deal with shitty meth heads

What book do you use for QM? I learned from McIntyre and when I read Griffiths I found his lack of linear algebra and dirac notation pretty disturbing. What's the more common approach?
>>
>>37465466

neet, it's pretty shit for social gains since im a recluse.

probably gonna end up as an electrician if i can't figure out what i want to do within the next year.
>>
>put boxes onto pallets as fast as possible for 4-8 hours out of 10 hour shift, running from 2pm-1am

Honestly not too bad. At first it was bugging the shit out of my back and leaving me too exhausted to go all out at the gym but I got a back brace and got used to the work so now those parts are all good. Now all that's left to deal with is some shoulder and elbow pain which I'm going to the doctor for soon.

Pretty decent stuff, definitely helping out with my cut, brings my TDEE up a good deal. Factory is going under in a couple of months which means no more job, but I do get severance check and a glowing recommendation if I can keep meeting the expectations I've set for myself.

Unemployed at the moment, but finishing my Computer science degree in about a year. To over qualified at McDonalds and Jack in the box. Just cardio and few dumb bell curls for training. Gym keeps harassing me for their money.

>Griffiths lacks Dirac notation
What?
Anyways I'm using Townsend right now. Try Shankar or Sakurai
>>
>>37465838
I should have said it lacks dirac notation early on. I was going through it and I felt like it was ages before he introduced it. McIntyre starts everything from the Stern gerlach experiments so day 1 has people working with mixed states and understanding bra-ket notation. I've been flipping through both Shankar and Sakurai to prep for grad school, but god damn is quantum tedious.

Doing a pre-apprenticeship for electrician atm probs head into Solar panel installation unless I can think of something better

>god damn is quantum tedious.
Not really. If you have the algebra foundations for group and representation theory then pick up Heine's book on group theory in QM, everything will become much clearer.
>>
>>37465551

That is a sweet job. But do the abuse cases get to you?
>>
>>37465925
Yea that's something I don't have. I ended undergrad covering time dependent perturbation theory and some basics about how lasers operate. I wish my undergrad university had a better math department so I could have learned better shit.
>>
Software engineer.
>>
>>37465961
Heine actually introduces some group theoretic concepts early on in the book so you don't have to worry about not having enough background. Though knowing more Lie groups/Lie theory will do you well in QFT courses when you get to grad school, and that will require a background in topology as well as group theory.
If you just want a complete treatment I'd recommend Rotman for group theory and Munkres for topology to start with.
>>
>>37466012
If I have any spare time I might look into learning that stuff, but I don't think i'll ever touch it in school. I'm going for experimental condensed matter (single electron transistors and kondo-correlated electrons. Though I'm hoping to land in a research spot for some experimental biophysics.

Electrical engineer. Currently on a big project where I install radar equipment overseas in a third world country. Has hurt my progress with gains, but the life experience is worth it in t he long run.

>experimental
Fuck I've been in theoretical cond. mat. for so long that I've automatically associate any grad student with theory. You won't need to know Heine's level of sophistication if you're experimental.

I know people that graduated as engineers before me and are still working they part time jobs they had during uni. They even had higher marks than me.

I feel for you mate. It must suck dick. Just constantly flood the market with your resume statistically you will succeed sooner or later.

Any reason you took the job to go overseas? I'm an EE major with about 3 semesters left and getting kind of scared. No idea what the fuck to do with degree except teach.
>>
>>37466096
Haha, legit. Every single girl in my class got picked up by companies before graduation to make up quotas.

What field?
>>
i work security for the only pub in town, it's more of a mental thing OP.

You either want to train because you might bump into someone who has more training / is a fuckwit and can hurt you or your prepared and ready to handle business. I'd rather be tired and handle it then well rested and going to hospital.
>>
>>37466098
Is my first job out of uni so I wasn't picky.

Started working at the company just doing their warehousing. They got desperate for installation engineers and I jumped at the chance.

Cool props to you. Seems quite a few EEs take lower jobs and then move up from there.
