How does your job tie into your health, fitness, and overall wellness?
>>
Studying to be a biology/maths teacher
Gonna study my chiro degree while picking up supply work as a teacher
>>
>>37449048
My job is possibly the worst thing ever for a physically fit person, or any human in general.

>computer technology
sitting is the worst thing I can imagine. they won't give me a standing desk so i can just do calf raises and squats all day.
I sit there with this 5lb ball and just balance it on my hands and curl it while im sitting to try and keep busy.
>>
autocad monkey

sitting at a desk for 9 hours a day

FUCKING KILL ME
>>
>37449048

Chiro degree? xD please don't waste your life on that shit. There's a reason real doctors mock it.
>>
>>37449048
>Athletic Trainers (ATs) are health care professionals who collaborate with physicians to provide preventative services, emergency care, clinical diagnosis, therapeutic intervention and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions.

I'm also a certified EMT and work in a physical therapy clinic that also has a full sized gym + pool in the building.

Prior to this I was an accountant. I make slightly less money now but I love my job and get to work out for free every day, and work with a lot of qt PTAs.
>>
>sleep scientist
>sleep like shit
>make no gains

Me too
>>
>>37449066
beggars cant be choosers ;PPP
>>
>>37449057
Please tell me that actually means you want a "DO" and not a "DC".
>>
I was an engineer for a couple years but now actually I sell SolidWorks to engineering companies. At least I get out of the office regularly. Also I can work from home when I want so I can go up and down my basement stairs during work hours
>>
>>37449048
ER tech. I'm on my feet for 12 hours a shift, and CPR is a great ab workout.
>>
>>37449131
Why don't you just science yourself then
>>
>>37449048
if you aren't a business owner you are essentially a financial manlet
>>
>>37449114

I also do this except I work in the orthopedic department of one of the biggest hospitals in my state. I mainly assess patients so the orthopedic surgeon doesn't have to, and put on/take off casts, braces, splints, etc.
>>
>dentist

Lifting prevents me from becoming Supermong of Notredame
>>
>>37449178
I do. I just hammer modafinil.
>>
Janitor in a hospital

Thinking of going back to school for something medical but I work 40 hours a week and have bills to pay

Am I gonna make it brehs?
>>
>>37449114
How can I get certified for this job? I'm a computer jockey and I want to die, I'd love to physically train people into wellness.

>>37449197
Same question goes to you
>>
Equity research
Chained to my desk. Not going to make it
>>
>>37449246
That depends. What do you want to go back to school for?

>>37449275
https://www.nata.org/about/athletic-training/obtain-certification
>>
>>37449216
I love that shit
>>
>>37449275
You need at least a bachelors degree from an approved program in athletic training and it has to include a clinical practicum (usually helping out with your uni's sports teams, they all have teams of ATs) and a specific coursework. You also have to have some kind of first aid training. My university offered a free EMT-B course for AT students during the summer so I did that.

Then you have to take NATA's ATC exam and pass it, which is pretty easy if you payed attention during school.

I recommend getting into it now before the market is flooded. It is a rapidly growing occupational field and our scope of practice is expanding. Like the other AT in this thread for instance, he works in a hospital doing nurse-tier shit.
>>
>>37449312
Dietetics.

I wanna be a clinical dietitian like the fat bitch in OP's pic, except I will actually practice what I preach and not sell my clients snake oil.
>>
>>37449312
>>37449376

Thanks guys. I'm 32, got my degree a 10 years ago and have been out of school since then. Does an AT B.A. take a full four years, or is it something I could knock out in a couple years while keeping my day job?

I know I could look this stuff up but it's nice to talk to people in the field.
>>
>>37449393
Do it faggot. You're on your own time. Achieve your dreams or forever suffer a fate of regret and asking yourself "what if" on your deathbed.

>>37449426
It really depends on your university, but from my own personal experience it's a fairly full time thing, considering you have a clinical practicum which takes up around 30 hours per week.
>>
>>37449312
>>37449376
Also is google accurate about the salary? It's showing $38k-$47k/yr. I'm pulling in that much now, although I hate my field so no change in salary would be acceptable.
>>
>>37449473
As of 2011, according to the NATA, the national average was $51,483. It's probably higher now. I work in a hospital, have 6 years of experience, and only a B.Sc. in Athletic Training and make $28/hr. It will also vary by location and setting. If you become an AT for an NFL or NBA team that number will be way higher, but if you're in some bumfuck town in the south working at some doc's private practice it'll probably be a lot lower.
>>
>>37449114
So you work in a clinic? Do you prefer that to a school setting? what about $$? Currently an ATS
>>
>>37449197
Do you prefer clinic setting to others?
>>

>wagecucking

>>
>>37449426
Depends on the school. Depending on what credits you have, it can be as little as 2 years. But just think about it, getting a bachelor's degree in 2 years isn't very common right?

My program has been very accepting of alternate entry (career change, ex-military etc.)
>>
Comes in handy when working privat security contracts I guess
>>
I work as a theatrical carpenter so I have to lift loads of lumber daily, move walls, platforms, climb ladders or scaffold, use tools, and things like that. I want to get more fit because I'm a 5'5'' female and I want to pull more weight. I still struggle trying to carry one 3/4in full sheet of plywood :C
>>
Working in a lab, applying to behavioral neuroscience phd programs next year. Mostly reward labs, considering one or two appetite/metabolism labs.

I find working with animals beneficial for my mental health, and I enjoy it. I get to do a wide variety of things from surgery to animal care. I sometimes have to sit for long periods to read/write, but otherwise it's pretty /fit/.
>>
>>37449048

Production tech at a fancy tech factory. I guess it's kinda /fit/, I walk a lot, lift stuff often, and fix shit all day. I work rotating 12s, so I don't get a concrete gym schedule anymore which sucks.

I'm absolutely miserable there tho so I'm going back to school
>>
>>37449048
I'm a trucker in the local port. My job is definitely NOT conducive to fitness. When I get stuck in the port for their lunch break, I take laps around the truck.
>>
>>37449393

Except part of being a dietitian is telling people the BS the licensing board tells you to tell patients.

You can be honest with patients and your personal ideas on diet after you have spent years furthering your education and are established, but during that time you will have to tell people things you disagree with.

I sit in front of a computer all day and work with a bunch of fatasses. There's also a kitchen filled with chips and soda 10ft away. Pretty unhealthy environment. I'm pretty used to avoiding the shit snacks but some times it's real tempting.
>>
Gonna be an ER doc. How can I take care of my patients if I can't even take care of myself ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
>>
Software Engineer. Not the best place to stay fit.

I try to get in good shape again but figured without the heavy mental activity I just get retarded.

Job for the brains, gym for the gains.
Need both to feel healthy

I deliver pizzas and I try real hard not to eat pizza while I cut

I'm down 18 pounds and i get the occasional pie with light sauce and cheese but full of meat

I'm in good shape. I teach my patients how to do therapeutic exercise and correct their gym home exercise plan exercises and frequency.

Attorney

I was fat when I was in law school and my law professor told me to lose weight because no firm would want to hire a fat person. He also claimed jurors hated fat people, but I lost the weight before graduation so I never found out if it was true or not.
>>
Finished engineering school, decided to keep waiting tables and other random shit instead in a ski town. Considering becoming a PT on the side. No regrets.
>>
>>37451029

Chiropracticioners are bullshit because there is no scoence behind it and they just do whatever they want.
>>
I'm a behavioral health professional. I work one-on-one with autistic kids and adults. So basically it's like 4chan in real life, so not fit related.

I was going to apply to med school this year but I got a nasty ass case of mono and it fucked up my plans, so I guess I'll have to wait until I'm 25...Fuck.

I currently thinking about working abroad for a year until the next med school cycle opens up.
>>
Sailor. Better chance for promotion the better I score on my fitness test. Also an E-3 so I have to lift all the heavy shit.
>>
>>37449066
>tfw programmer and sit for 9-12 hours a day with a shitty non-standing desk that is also ~10-12 inches too short.

I'm getting shoulder and back pain from this shit and I've gained 30 lbs in a year...

What do?
>>
>>37452062
I help my dad with some of his PT and I'll tell you, limbs are fucking heavy. Crazy how I've seen many petite PTs move my dad with ease.
>>
I'm an electrician and sometimes do automation works as well on buildings. Many of my co-workers are in good shape or skinnyfats. I walk around a lot and climb on ladders and carry shit. Also I need good core muscles to be working over my head all day, I learnt that the hard way when my lower back was aching for over a year because I didn't know what the fuck I should be doing to keep my core tight and different postures.

Now that I have good posture and keep my core tight, my job helps me get even fitter because of the static holding, grip strength upgrading jobs and lots of low impact cardio.

Love it, and the pay is bredy gud :D
>>
Retail at Staples.

My job involves mostly down-stocking, so I'm constantly moving around the store and going up and down ladders. On any given day I'll do 20k-25k steps.

Could be worse I guess.
>pay is still shit

Medical student my life is a fucking mess. Managed to hold dieting and going to the gym together for the fourth week in a row now and its looking like it's finally going to stick.

>unavoidable stress makes it easy to cut

That's an excellent philosophy to have, keep it up. You should see some of the EMT's who are out there.

>>37452306

Preach it.
>>
>>37452448
Chiros are fine as long as they don't trick people into thinking they are practicing bone magic. They can't cure disease, but if you have some shoulder pain they can often fix it

>deffiently
Jesus Christ are these the kind of people that go to chiros?

>warehouse worker
>great pay and benefits in Union shop
>Strong upper body, back, thighs because lifting heavy shit all day. 10+ hours a day.
>still obese fuck who hates himself at 320lbs. Thankfully my height offsets it.

I'd say it could be worse but honestly even if I lost this job, id feel nothing. I hate my job. I hate myself. I'm just not a happy person. No one knows though because my cheerful mask is too well worn. So shhh don't tell anyone.
>>
Who /journalism/ here?

Currently halfway through second year of my degree, how does it stack up with lifting?
>>
Front of House at a Microbrewery.

Free beer is a huge gainz goblin plus the food they make is typical pub grub but I work my way around it.
>>
i do labour once per week and run a business which has me producing and selling food with a mate. i like it. looking into getting some kind of personal training qualification and starting to earn cash from that (should be no problem as i can outperform any PT in all matters physical and am very personable).
>>
Anyone hear about that warehouse worker that sometimes has this blank stare on his face when he takes his break?
>>
>work in a factory moving boxes from an assembly line to a pallet for 4-8 hours out of 10 hour shift
>lightweight shit, is basically cardio
>still fucks up my back when the line moves fast because of all the weird positions I have to be in in order to move the boxes fast enough
>look forward to being put on the "heavy" line because it moves slow enough that I can move everything safely
>have to work out afterwards due to logistics

Not terrible but definitely not something I'd want to do for the rest of my life.

I noticed about three years ago that I had developed an anterior pelvic tilt.
My gut seemed to stick out, I had a large butt, i had gained tons of weight (went up to 215).
This was all from 1 year being out of the military and binging freedom to do what I want (be a pig).
I started with walking daily atleast a mile.
I went down to 205, could manage running again.
I started lifting (brosplit) and managed to get down to 190.
The next year I spent fixing my anterior tilt, and lifting on a cut, since I had enough fat to do noob gains and build my muscles back up.
the final year (last year) I started hiking hardcore and fixing my muscles and back. Back pain completely left spine staightened up as pelvis was fixed.
1 year of sitting around can and I hate to use the term literal, but it could literally kill you.
it's a slippery slope to sudden herniated disk or crippling pain.

That's me. 1000 yard stare thinking about nothing in particular. Blank, clean slate mind. I call it cleaning house. It's the only way I don't end up screaming.

I'm a postman in the UK.
Walk 8+ miles a day, which is awesome because I have a fatty appetite so this job stops me from getting fat. Also my blood pressure and RHR are really good.

/Medfag/ in my second year here. I'm in Germany where they have a more clinically oriented curriculum where they've cut out all the unnecessary BS (like physics, you don't need that unless you want specifically that) and I love it.

It's still a time investment, but I can workout, study and still party on the weekends.

Most of the med schools need serious reforms. They don't primarily teach you how to become a proper physician, they test you on how much material you learn without any significant impact later on.

Ask most of the high animals in the hospital, even if they're excellent their jobs they've forgotten at least 85 % of preclinical information because there simply is no need. It's mostly kept there to test the students and for traditional reasons.

Grinds my gears.

I'm in college for comp sci then I'll be transferred to uni for comp engineering after I get my associates or whatever in 2 years or so. I doubt any job in that field will have me doing anything related to fitness whatsoever.
