An LA Fitness just opened near me and they want a $100 initiation fee, and $32.99 a month.
Any recommendations on how to haggle the price down and not pay initiation?

1. Act like you are a gym rat who lives in the gym and will use it often so they'll think that you'll stay for a long time.
2. Tell them that you already have a gym membership elsewhere and act really unsure about paying the initiation fee because it'll take your at least a year to make up the difference. They often drop the initiation fee completely.

What's the gym? I do 24hr fitness, most major chains have discounts for employees of certain companies, if you're not a total autist you can usually talk to an employee, maybe mention how your company totally offers a discount but you forgot the code or something, they have a list of the codes somewhere he can check, maybe wink wink give you one. Mine knocked the initiation fee off and shaved a few bucks off the monthly fee. I pay $40/mo for a pretty fancy gym, I like the free towels, the large diverse selection of drinks and protein supplements, the cleanliness, and the hot chicks you usually get with the more expensive gyms. All personal preference as long as you can do your workout.

I guarantee the guy working the door or selling memberships just wants to sell memberships, this bluffing and acting isn't going to work because he doesn't give a shit.
Secondly, if he DID give a shit, they're more likely to want to sign someone who DOESN'T come in all the time. Gyms survive because of the weekend warriors who buy subscriptions, preferably yearly ones, and never show up. Gym rats are the cancer taking advantage of this system, going in multiple times a week, and intimidating the WW boys.

You just go in for a tour and talk to the salesman for however long, look at shit and say you're interested but you have to think about it
Then go home, and wait like 2 days, he will call you and be like "oh we got this cool new promotion, no initiation fee!" which opens the door for you to "hmmm.... sounds good, but can you throw in anything else?"
It's that fucking easy, it's been that way in every single gym I've been to in the States and in China. I doubt you'll get any off on the monthly though, they're not stupid, thats where they make their money

I go to LA fitness and I don't know of anyone who pays less than 30/mo, but don't pay the initiation fee.
As a side note the staff is fucking awful and it's always packed at peak hours (i.e. before and after work) but your location may be different.
