I don't think the biggest problem with PF is the lack of equipment, it's the people that go to PF. The blind leading the blind, really. When you go to a real gym, you can learn from eachother. But it's like going to school with a bunch of morons, you can't succeed in that environment.

Planet Fitness is bad if you want to bulk and lift heavy, but it's pretty good for people who are just doing cardio or light lifting.
I do think it's pretty stupid that they have heavy weights available but scrutinize you for using them, but it's not really a gym for people who are serious about getting big, just for cardio bunnies and faggots.

I work and work out at a pretty big commercial gym with nice equipment and a lot of serious lifters. One of the trainers brought in a bunch of Planet Fitness pens. Everybody there uses them. For some reason I find it very funny.

So the company is really big on "info calls;" so if you ever call a PF, and you're not a member, that's why they give you a fuck long script about the gym. The main directive of working here really is to clean the equipment and check people in. You are able to "easily" move up to higher positions (ie. corporate, maintenance, etc.). The only script, apart from the phone, is when I give people tours of the facility. We have to hit certain point based on the company's scale, but I don't have to act like a robot. There aren't really any dumb rules except for when we have to enforce policies, like someone has a gallon jug or a guy is on his phone on the gym floor. And my only complaint really about working is the radio, it's so fucking terrible.

Been a member of In Shape and they tried to lock me in another 3 year contract by not telling me after my contract was up it auto renews. That was a hassle to get out of. Fuck In Shape. Been to 24 Hour Fitness, decent gym lots of great machines but it's hot as fuck and always packed and the workers there must be obligated to make sales since they don;t leave you the fuck alone about all their products when you walk in. Got a Planet Fitness membership today and went from 1am to 230am. Did my cardio, used a few machines and did my free weights then went home. Cheap, really nicely air conditioned, and very clean. It don't matter what fucking gym you go to as long as it has stuff available for me to do what I need. I imagine PF is a different story during the day but I'm off at night so I always went after midnight anyway. I'm sticking with PF for now.

Yeah but they're not the best. Most gyms have barbells though. PF is mostly treadmills and ellipticals and bikes for fatties. That's why I go after work at night. And I'll admit the weight machines at 24 Fitness shit all over PF but 24Hour is overpriced and the machines are run down as fuck where I live. At PF it feels like the machines do half the fucking work for you but they also have free weights and cable machines in the back so I mostly use those. If I do use one of those ugly purple life fitness ones I just use more weight. Still making gains either way. PF isn't perfect but it's my best option right now.

You have obviously never worked out in a PF.
Unfortunately, about a year ago I fractured my lower back. In order to make sure I would not injure myself lifting, I joined a PF so that I would not be around heavy weight. The lunk alarm rang about every other day I was there. This thing is so loud that it scares the shit out of you and causes you to almost drop your weight on your face. I've almost sustained injuries from a few cases. Try-hard PTs there take up half the machines with "circuits." People will literally just SIT on machines for half an hour playing on their phone. People are constantly breaking the cable machines due to misuse/slamming/dropping weight stacks.
The ONLY reason I see to use a PF is if you honestly can't afford a treadmill and want to be air conditioned while doing cardio.
Also, pizza Monday is a real fucking thing.
