I DO think replacing bench with OHP would broaden appeal and help the nonexistent chances of this sport getting into the Olympics.

At the very least, it would help the Bench Press itself if they reigned in this "Chinese Girl Max Width Gripping, 1/4 inch ROMing" bullshit and didn't actually have a PRESS command mid goddamn lift. If they want a paused bench (which is stupid to begin with, but whatever), just let the lifter himself pause it. That way the instructions from the judge won't differ from meet to meet so much. The rule should be there has to be a noticeable pause at the bottom. Just like in the squat you have to hit depth, but you don't have someone yelling at you when you DO hit depth.

When you say this, I can't help but think you're referring to the sort of elite lifter that has never put much effort at all into overhead lifting because he's busy training for squats, bench presses, and deadlifts. No fucking shit they'd kind of suck at pressing overhead.

If these people had been training a standing press for 15 years, instead of bench press, they'd be getting much bigger numbers.

Though admittedly a standing press would be less relevant the more equipment you're wearing. There's not a whole lot you can do to involve elastic in a standing press like you can with a squat.

Which is why raw powerlifting is the One True Powerlifting, and hyper equipped powerlifting is masturbatory ego lifting hogshit.

Problem with OHP being a competition lift is that people will turn it into an incline press, which will be hard to judge. That's why pressing was removed from WL.
If OHP were to be added I'd add it alongside the BP. That way being a good presser means you can actually get better totals, as both lifts are lighter than SQ and DL. Together they should be about the same as a DL, I think.

It wasn't just the lifting, it was overuse injury from other aspects of life, combined with the lifting. And also a clear genetic predisposition to poor tendon recovery. My patella tendinitis has taken over 3 years to rehab due to commuting and general everyday activities aggravating it, and having flat feet. Now I've got tendinitis in other places, like wrist flexor, which I've taken months off for only for it to come back in full when I though it was healed - the same tendon I had an MRI for over a year ago. Mobility didn't save me, nothing did, just alleviated the problems. I can't take time off and fix whatever if I never even started in the first place.
It just happens, it genetics. Look at people like Caladan, or prospective athletes, broken from the get-go.

Why try for a heavier bench when it will only interfere with your squat and deadlift training? 10 lbs increase on the bench is the same as a 10 lbs increase on OHP, and with the heavier weights involved in bench pressing, it'd be MORE likely to interfere with squat and deadlift progression.

I played rugby in college. A 30'' vertical leap would have been a HUGE improvement in speed over my actual 24'' vertical leap. This lack of talent caused others on the team to be significantly faster than me and there wasn't anything that could really be done to fix it.

So I just got stronk as fuck and started playing Hooker. Possibly because I have at least a minor talent for lifting weights. Over 5 years, I've gotten my squat to 550 lbs while usually only training seriously over winter because of rugby in half of fall and spring, and then golf tournaments all summer. Still tried to stay in the gym, but progress is impossible in those conditions.

tl;dr Play to your goddamn strengths before you waste time working on your weaknesses.

Because Sheiko wants you to spend most of your energy into getting stronger at the important stuff for powerlifting.
If you have issues with biceps tendinitis then it's fine to just add a couple of sets of curls at the end.

Basically just run the program as is once (adding curls is fine) so you can get a feel for it, and then for the next cycles you can think about changing accessories around, inflating maxes (popular for the bench), that sort of stuff.

Sheiko recommends medium load for lifters under 80kg, and large load for lifters over 80kg. But both programs are very high on volume, and from my experience most people prefer medium load, even lifters way over 80kg. So I'd recommend starting with that one first, and then if you feel the volume is too low, switch to the large load for the next cycle.

Make good use of the lighter sets and days, and try to improve your technique. Specially for benching. There are many details you can work on, and Sheiko gives you plenty of opportunity to improve them. So don't get lazy.

If you're gonna do rack pulls instead of using boxes, try using a bar that's already a bit bent so the people at the gym don't get mad at you for ruining a straight bar.

If you don't have access to the equipment needed to do extra stuff, here's a few suggestions (from Sheiko himself):

>block/rack pulls

You can make a stack with plates or use those EVA blocks if the gym has them.
Alternatively, you can do a regular deadlift, then lower the bar to knee height and lockout again, for however many reps needed. Kinda like a higher RDL.

>chains

Can use resistance bands, or bench with pause halfway during the pressing phase. Same deal for the deadlift with chains.

>boards

Can use a (big enough) water bottle or towel beneath the shirt, or just do a partial bench.

Did you READ the post, retard? I said I have a lack of talent for SPEED and explosiveness, and admitted a talent for lifting heavy things. Particularly squats. It must be weird anthropometry because my best deadlift is only 505, and yes, I hit depth on the squat.

Also, it's not like I was playing for Ohio State. Literally anyone who showed up and could pay the $50 dues played for our rugby club. I was a starter, and probably one of the three strongest guys on my team for during my tenure (that included playing with a former army Ranger that gained a whole bunch of muscle and went back to college when he got out, and a guy who played fullback and linebacker in American football for a high school in Atlanta).

You unlifting dipshit, it's IMPOSSIBLE to have a proper standing press grip on the bar after cleaning it. The bar is supposed to rest ON TOP OF YOUR RADIAL BONE. Which is why we're talking about a press from a rack.

Mobility has nothing to do with it, if your forearms are too long (which is true for most people), you cannot have the bar on your radial bone and have it resting on your shoulders.
