Its a discipline thing.
For some people it's easier to make themselves go to the gym and workout than to just workout wherever they are, because the only thing they can do at the gym is workout.
If you sit at home to do the workout you might give in to the weakness inside yourself and just skip the workout, because you have other stuff to do, or you're just feeling lazy.
Actually going into the gyms puts you in the mindset of, "Yes, I'm going to do my workout, that is why I came here."
