Hello /fit/
fem here wondering if there is something I can do about my "violin hips" or "hip dips"?
From what I've found it seems to be a bone structure thing so I feel like it might be hopeless.
I'm 110lbs, 5'7" so It's not a fat issue but I think because I'm so small it is more noticeable.
Any suggestions about how to make this look smother or am I just stuck like this?

I've heard side leg raises and squats are the best to sort of smooth out the whole problem. I've not had much luck with it but I am admittedly not very dedicated. Maybe you'll be more disciplined and get better results.

Yes. It's a bad feature. It's one of those things that make people think "they looked better with clothes on", if you know what I mean. I'm sure you've had the same thought about some men too.

Could it be genetics/bone structure etc? Yeah, probably plays a large role.. Assuming you aren't dumb and already checked that it's bone and not fat.

Only thing I can think of doing that would help is finding out exactly what muscle(s) is located in the dip. Find a way to isolate those and make them bigger.


I also heard that wearing jeans that are too tight on your hips can cause it. Although this may just be a myth, who knows. But if you do this then it's possibly worth stopping it.

I'm a dude, 5'8", I have this. You get the extra dip from having ridiculous quads and low bodyfat. Idk, maybe a lot of women don't have them because of fat distribution around the buttocks, but I believe anyone would have that extra dip once their quads are big enough. A lot of people also have problem with Anterior Pelvic Tilt which may obscure the dip.

Try this out Anons, stand up straight and check out your hips... you'll need to be naked to do it, a mirror is optional:
>stand up straight
>clench glutes/push your lower hips forward to correct APT.
>feet forward; turn your toes in towards your stomach if you want to exaggerate the effect.
>put hands on hip bone at waist, this is the upper dip around hips. This should be easy to fit if you're slim.

>align the base of your palm with your hip bone, and point fingers downward, resting them on your upper thigh.
>your palm will now be covering part of your Quads that reach up to your hips, this muscle sticks out between the two hip dips.
>pushing your lower hips forward (i.e. pelvic thrusting like you're fucking) will flex the muscle under your palm.

>you should also feel a divot or large dimple where your pinky and ring finger are, this is where the femur connects to the hip bone, and there are no muscles over that part of the femur.
fit men should EASILY notice the divot and be able to find the bone. People who carry a lot of weight around the hips (women with phat ass, unfortunate men, etc.) may have that area hidden by fat.
>Once you find the divot, which is approximately at your 4 O'clock position, you may be able to feel the second hip dip by following the curve of your body around to the 3 and 2 o'clock positions.

If you don't feel like there's a dip there, it's because your Quads aren't big enough.

Side leg raises, should swole up the muscle which attaches to the iliac crest on your hip, otherwise it may even be fat distribution so maybe a slight (be careful) increase in body fat could help.

He's right though, do squats and diddies. It will fix you 100% guaranteed if done with good form.
You can also isolate your glutes (on top of squats and dl, not instead of). Hip thrusts, glute raises etc.
Don't touch a machine unless you've been lifting for 1+ year. I don't care what your physio tells you, they know how the body works but they know nothing about the proper way to exercise.

Thats not muscle, thats lucky fat distribution and a wide lower hip bone. The hip bone is lower than you think probably, it definitly contributes tho the wideness below the panty line
