I'm not gonna lie, if you don't have anything to keep pressure on you and motivate you to do it, it can be hard.
Me, I had work keeping me from 8 in the morning up to 3 in the morning the next day at times. If I didn't get up early to lift, I sure as shit wouldn't have any juice left for it when work finished. You just have to WANT to get up to do something enough. Haven't you ever had to get up extra early to catch a flight? It's kinda like that.

No proof. There is no science backing it up, but most people believe that eating lots of carbs after a workout will help drive the protein into your muscle and speed up repair, one way or another. It's a really sticky meme in the BB community though and has been around for a long time, so I'm inclined to believe that there is some merit to it. But you're gonna eat those carbs either way, so why not have some right after a workout. Feels good anyway, and even if it turns out to be false, no harm done.

I personally do about 40% of my daily carbs before workout (oatmeal et al), 40% after, and then the rest throughout the day.

Thanks for clearing that up. I agree on eating after work out is nice and an easy way to do it especially for a large meal. But getting an insulin spike could also be done by just eating some thing sweet (a candy bar or something after working out). But seeing as there's no real proof for that, I'll just be sticking to having a normal meal like I always do.

I'm a dude. I'm naturally pale as a ghost and easily sunburn. I wanted to better show off what little muscle definition I have, so I bought some betacarotene and decided to use the tanning bed so I could have some control of how I tan.
The going is slow, but it works. I get 10 minutes 3-4 times a week. I'd up it to 15 minutes, but then I'd have to cut down on morning cardio or get up earlier.

Yeah, I find it has helped me a lot in that regard. I won't say that it's the big kicker, but I've heard a lot of people in our situation have greatly benefitted from the betacarotene.
As for the tanning, I suppose progressive loading is the way to go - Start as low as you're comfortable with. For me, it was ten minutes at half effect for the first week, before I started uysing full effect. Some light kind of "burn" can be expected to begin with, but if you've been really sunburned before, you'll know the difference.
