Software engineer. I make a bit over $100k/year in salary and around $60k/year in benefits.

I fucked up negotiating though; my company should be paying me more by like $50k. Unfortunately the only way to resolve this is by switching companies, which is a bit irritating.

I got a degree in computer science.

Graduated in 2011, I was making $81k + $30k in bonuses then I think, although my salary was around $93k I quit due to location and the terrible lifestyle that was associated with that company. I wrote some testing tools for them.

Job after that was around $100k + $10k in bonuses. Worked on some BPM shit. Quit due to the company being a mess. 80% of the coworkers I ate lunch with quit within the two years I was there.

Right now I write boring internal shit at a top company. I will definitely switch teams if I don't switch jobs. I thought I'd be able to stay at a job for longer than two years for once, but I don't think it's likely. My current position might make it difficult to switch to another team that does something more interesting.

I messed up with the negotiations at my current company because I messed up my scheduling interview with their competitor (they thought I was interested in a different location) and I was desperate to leave my other company. I'm now in a position to negotiate even without multiple job offers because while I'm bored I can take my time.

My aim is to get a job where I can travel more, either for conferences (doing "tech evangelism") or being able to work remotely full time (added bonus of not having to wear clothes every day). But if i can't do that, I'll take more money and/or more interesting work I guess.

Quite honestly, most places in Silicon Valley area are expensive as shit cost of living (~2-3k for a nice 1 bedroom apartment). They have to pay their employee's well to live there. Also, software is lucrative as shit and its the private sector so why not pay employees well so they're happy to work for you? On the other end, from what I've seen, government programming is usually shit pay and unfulfilling.

Civil engineer (BSE) 40 000 € annually, according to Google this is 45 000 $.

We're a small business (two owners and four employees) and I basically have two tasks:
1: manage construction projects between housing estates and contractors - boring bullshit involving typing up documents and being on the phone 24/7.
2: damage inspection (structural, microbe, water and fire damage) - actually very interesting stuff

My pay is pretty much exactly average in Finland, and seeing what you burgers are making is making me kind of interested in working overseas (US or Canada). I'm not sure though if my skills are in demand over there. I'd especially like to do inspection more - can any others in the civil fields answer me?

I'm a fresh 20 yo sadboii working as a wageslave.

Things might get better if I can pinch my pennies and pay for some land so I can either farm grain or ranch whatever is the longstanding fad in Texas.

I'm thinking of going on paid internships to the US. I've spent a year studying/living there and I ultimately would like a job overseas.

That's dope if you can get one anon, but foreign internships are hard to get especially if you don't have the right passport.
I'm just saying, shoot high if you want, but don't bank everything on that longshot.

There are internships that you personally pay for, and from what I have heard once you have one successful internship under your belt companies no longer see you as a liability and instead see you as a cheap labour for shit-tier menial tasks.

Not quite. My wife and sister both do this, and neither family has had a single lawyer before. But you do need some runway. Go to top tier undergrad and work a serious job for a couple years. Big law firm selection seems to be based on 1) going to a "core" law school / how impressive is the resume (so they can show clients), 2) how ok you seem to be with working insane hours, and 3) grades/LSAT.

I used to make 60k post-tax in the military in my early 20s. Felt like a baller because it was 100% disposable (no rent, no health expenses or whatever). Worked out twice a day as part of my job. Analyst for a National Statistical Office. Around 60k.

It's good work but because the civil/public service is so hierarchical, work is assigned based on level. I have a PhD and I am given work that is so far below my technical abilities it is insulting. Everything is assigned based on experience.

To be honest most of the 'work' I do is psychological, where I have to expend energy to avoid saying something politically incorrect or to something like "gee whiz you want me to press a few buttons and press enter according to a pre-ordained sequence? You know I could re-write the entire process to make it more efficient. No? Ok I'm going for a 30 minute coffee"

I completely agree with you, friend, thank you for your advice.

I'm going to apply for a few jobs and sell a few of my valuable electronics that aren't needed to help myself get tied over.

I've been living very healthy the past two weeks doing exactly as you say, sleeping early, threw out all my weed apparatus, been meditating everyday etc and started a journal.

This is definitely too little too late but I believe I can do it if I stay positive.

Hopefully this will be a huge life lesson that I come out okay from. People have been in much worse conditions than me so all that needs to happen is for me to stop acting like a bitch. I'm going to attempt to speak to a therapist to talk about my gyno and how deeply rooted the shame of it is in my psychology. Hopefully that will give me some answers.

Again, thanks for your message buddy.
