My stupid fucking fat ass friends say this. Chicken, rice and some greens is not expensive.
>>
>>37156332
I once spent three months eating lentil soup I got for free from working in an Albanian restaurant. Ate nothing else, made some decen gains.
>>
I can make a giant pot of lentils with carrots, potatoes, onions and celery for about $3.

Boneless skinless chicken breasts are 1.99/lb at Walmart.

My local grocer sells ground beef for 2.99/lb

I don't know what the fuck these people are talking about.
>>
>>37156369
Oh god, that would take some determination. I mean I could do it but would just have to accept zero satisfaction from food forever.
>>
>>37156384
I just got out of prison at the time. Accepting zero satisfaction fromfood came far earlier.

Where on earth are chicken breasts $13? I live in australia where everything costs an arm and a leg and not even chicken breasts are more than half that price.

I was not well-suited to civilian life. Many marines are not. I think the corps attracts a disproportionate number of violent guys and gives them an outlet. Once they get out, they don't have an outlet.

In my jail they did, but that was because there were 4 major people who were in the military who were there and then a couple of other people who just completely kept to themselves and didn't do shit.
>marine who had participated in some pretty heinous shit while overseas, leader of the whites who stuck up for everybody who wasn't PC-bound, left shortly before I arrived but was still regarded as a legend
>Doc - ex-army, homeless, straddling the border between insanely funny and just insane - every sentence out of his mouth was like a fucking zen koan, a joke, complete nonsense, or some mixture of all of them - also unlike nearly every other crazy old person in jail he knew when to shut up
>Hollywood - 50 year old absolutely jacked ex-army ranger with a list of assault charges a mile long, total bro and would coach everybody who wanted it in fitness - very funny, but had the second worst farts in our part of the jail and he farted all the goddamn time
>Frank - funny ex-army pog, homeless alcoholic, friends with everybody after he beat some pedo's face in during his first week there, handwashed laundry for everybody who could afford it in exchange for canteen (the jail-provided service would leave your clothing yellow and smelling like burnt hair,) spades champion, crash test dummy, played as a cleric in the 5E D&D group we helped create together

I get the feeling that if we hadn't had such great people who were ex-military that they'd just get ignored but they had a pretty good reputation in my county.
>>
>>37156778
It's designed to break your spirit and turn you into a caged animal. The shit I can't describe is far worse than any of that shit.

Not having any control over your day-to-day life is horrible. The surreal experience of existing without agency or recourse breaks everyone after a while. So most choose to give in and shut their minds off.

You play cards, talk, exercise, and do whatever to get through the next chunk of time, whether it's a few minutes or hours. Reapeat this a few thousand times and the years just disappear.

Dumb assholes did stupid shit and people fought and sometimes even killed one another, but most of us just sat around trying not to think. The real horror is watching yourself become less than human and not being able to stop it.

I don't know if you can understand what I mean, but that's really the story I have.

>>37156743
>poo in the loo
>>
>>37156850
Federal is usually a lot less personal than county in my experience. There are some upsides, but I can't really say I had friends in prison. In jail I did, as transitory as they were. But in prison everyone was at the level of intimacy of people waiting at the bus stop.
>>
>>37156405
That pick is from NZ. New World be jacking prices, and of course they didn't go when it's $9/kg
>>
>>37156918
Oh yeah, I definitely got that vibe from the way people talked about prison. So much dumb shit went down that was almost always met with somebody muttering "If we were upstate he'd be dead/in the hole/on the ground with a dick in his ass right now." County seemed like an opportunity to bulk up for those going upstate or federal and a waiting room for everyone else.
>>
>>37156872
I do bro, in a way. I'm glad I can't fully understand it tho, sounds fucking horrible.

somehow you're more human than most of us, you know how precious is this "freedom" that we take for granted

good luck man, stay away from that place
>>
>>37156998
Pretty much. You can get away with more obviously dumb shit in county. But contraband and more subtle shit is the norm in prison. It's the difference between weeks and months versus years and decades. It's just a game of maintaining the status quo because it is easier to get through the day that way, if that makes any sense.

i pay about 10 to 15 dollars for a family pack of chicken in my area. At two pieces of chicken breast a day it lasts me 3-5 days depending on how many they toss in. Usually about 4 days.

Groceries for me comes to 100-150 per week in order to eat IIFYM diet plan.

Also, most people I know eat quality foods and junk. It just becomes to many calories.

For instance my mother will eat wholesome meals but she tosses in huge bags of popcorn, wine, cookies, and other arbage as a day to day thing. Most people I know are like this.

Direct costs
>Ingredients
>Labor, cooking.
>Labor, cleaning.
>Electricity
>Water
>Detergents
Indirect cost
>Depreciation of kitchen and major appliances, yearly ~8% of inital investment
>Depreciation of minor appliances, yearly ~20% of initial investment
>Cooking utensils, 100% of investment written down as a cost incurred at year of purchase.
Financial costs
>Weighed cost of capital ~2-5% of equity depending on how the kitchen is financed.

Cooking is expensive. Your time is worth something, and you have to put labor down as a cost. Even if you like cooking; then you could get a job as a cook and get paid to do that.
Depreciation is the very real cost of having to replace your investments when they eventually break down. Cost of capital is the fact that you could have put your money in the bank and gotten interest out of it, instead of investing it in the kitchen. Alternativly if you have loans you could have paid them off.

It's unrealistic to compare the price of raw ingredients with the price of edible food. That's like comparing the price of cotton with that of clothes. Why aren't you buying a spinning wheel and a loom and start making clothes yourself? If you don't consider the costs of the investments and your own labor, you could make clothes for almost free.

Carbohydrates are an essential nutrient, arguably more important than protein.

Low carb diets are a fad and a meme.

lmao this is fucking bullshit. like the other anon said, you're not working 24/7, time spend cooking is free time anyway. You list all these 'costs' but in fact for 1 meal they all amount to nearly nothing. The point is when you're paying someone to prepare your food apart from the whole cost list you just named, there's also a profit factor in there. Not just the guy who prepared it, but his boss, and his boss' boss (if you buy in a franchise) all get a cut. Now unless you're working all day everyday and get paid per hour and are allowed no breaks it's absolute fucking bullshit.

Besides cooking can be fun and relaxing, looking at life in the way you do and calculating every second of it is autistic and cringey as fuck.

Carbs are literally shit in every way, you're a retard who obviously knows nothing about diet. Eating carbs increases insulin production which increases fat storage. Carbs are basically just complex sugar structures, you might as well just eat candy for all the nutritional value they give you.

They are not able to get out of te frame they set themselves into because in reality, they want to stay there. They want someone to tell them it's okay to eat shit and blame everyone else for their misery. They won't hear the shit like us on /fit/ who eat cheap but healthy. >>
>>37156371
Fat people are inherently lazy. Food preparation requires an individual to not be lazy. Therefore, it's not hot pockets vs. sweet potatoes, broccoli, onions, and ground turkey. It's hot pockets vs. kashi ready made single serving low-calorie organic pizza from Whole Foods, which is obviously more expensive.

>Much of the low carb and paleo reasoning revolves around insulin. To quote one random blogger, “Carbohydrates increase insulin, the root of all evil when it comes to dieting and health.” So because carbs increase insulin, we should stick mostly to meat, which is fat and protein—no carbs, so no increase in insulin, right? Wrong. We’ve known for half a century that if you give someone just a steak, no carbs, no sugar, no starch–their insulin goes up. Carbs make your insulin go up, but so does protein.
>In 1997 an insulin index of foods was published, ranking 38 foods on which stimulates higher insulin levels. What do you think causes a larger insulin spike: a large apple and all its sugar, a cup of oatmeal packed with carbs, a cup and a half of white flour pasta, a big bunless burger—no carbs at all–or half of a salmon fillet? The answer is the meat.
>They looked only at beef and fish, but subsequent data showed that there’s no significant difference between the insulin spike from beef, versus chicken or pork—they’re all just as high. Thus, protein- and fat-rich foods may induce substantial insulin secretion. In fact, meat protein causes as much insulin release as pure sugar.
>So, based on their own framework, if they really believed insulin is the root of all evil, then low carbers and paleo folks would be eating big bowls of white spaghetti day in and day out before they’d ever touch meat.

10/10 post.
But pay attention to that graph. What's plotted is the ratio of insulin to glucose. If you drastically drop the glucose level, but keep the insulin reponse the same, the ratio would shoot through the roof. Also, I would expect a fatter meat cut to have a lower insulin spike.

I guess the american mentality is to say you'll have to re-buy this shit every year since you won't learn how to treat it properly. Instead why don't you make up ludicrous electricity costs to run this for 45 seconds, and also include a life insurance policy cost in case it finally dies while I'm using it and I get electrocuted or something. Also include an insurance policy in case one of my friends over is a new blender salesman and he rages so hard that I have this piece of shit that he kills me, because you have to account for everything right. By the way you forgot the 0.000001% depreciation when I placed the blender on the already worthless kitchen table and put a microscopic mark on it

I got lucky and I'm living in the nicer staff housing units.
I have a desk and a shared bedroom. There are two, so four people can live in my unit comfortably.
There is an obvious lack of privacy but for $480 CAD a month, I'll take it.

You hear the horror stories of the winter housing prices. "I'm paying 700/mo for a bunk bed in a 13 person house." and you just kind of scream internally because when my staff housing expires, that will become me at some point unless I find a place during the shoulder season.

Other than that, it's just a giant adult summer camp up here. Everyone is working towards the same thing, saving money to spend either on gear/the mountain, or drinks after your days on the mountain.

As long as you're confident with approaching people, everyone will have the time of day for a quick conversation so it's very easy to make friends.

Is it weird that I've eaten the same meals pretty much every single day barring the occasional cheat meal for over 2 years?

I get the impression it's really odd but besides the occasional craving for a cheat meal I have no desire to eat something different every day. It suits my caloric and protein requirements so why would I change it?

Been on a protein sparing modified fast, weight loss is still occuring but its slowing to a snails pace, down to 220 from 270 in on February 25th, need to switch gears into bulking mode for massive muscle gains but can't do that and PSMF at the same time.

Should I take 1 week off from the PSMF to try to get my metabolism back to normal and then go right back to it and finish it off, and then switch into bulking mode?

Or should I keep grinding all the way to the finish?
