Something that just happened to me.
Visitng my parents for a couple of weeks, doing alot yard work, cutting trees and basically doing the mans work around, when my father is at work. I develop a habit of rewarding myself with a few beers after a days work, which turns into daily drinking.
My mother being overweight and not in the best condition physically (not due to obesity though), tends to eat junk food shit, like crisps and sweets on daily basis and starts giving me shit on my drinking, as it goes to couple of liters a day.
I hate being lectured, especially after working hard and doing it out of respect when i'm staying at my old folks. Point taken however - I could do with less beer, for gains sake, for diets sake and for my mother's sake. End up talking a deal with my sweet old mother - no alcohol for me on weekdays - no sweets for her on weekdays.
Come today, my father's laughing to me, that it didn't take long for her to start eating shit again. Confront my mother and she throws a goddamn fit - busting out my father's secret drinking habits, yelling like a 4 year old, giving excuses for eating shit - low blood sugar, no energy to work around the house otherwise.
This might sound like a petty thing no man should feel bad about, but for fucks sakes, why the fuck are fat people so spiteful and insecure. I feel very bad for my old man, as he's struggling with his drinking. Even more bad I feel about how addicted my mother is to that shit and that she has to lie about her habit and drag other people to shit because of it.
I have seen fair share of junkies and hardcore alcoholics in my life, and they all behave on this principle. How the fuck did that sweet old lady got the mindset like that over goddamn sweets?

They were treating me, so I basically pigged out for the entire time. There was no point during the trip that I wasn't some degree of buzzed, fat, and stupid. Prior to this, I was usually downing about 21 beers a week.
Near the end of my trip, my father dropped a bomb on me. He pointed out that I weighed 20lbs more than he did when he was my age. He wasn't even particularly mean about it, but t was the first time I had ever heard him comment on my weight in my entire life. It was a very simple as-a-matter-of-fact statement but it stuck with me.
Since then, I've brought myself down to 10 beers a week and replaced a lot of my drinks with seltzer water. I've lost 7 pounds because of it in the last month, and I feel better than ever because of it.
