There is literally no difference between training effectiveness between smith machine and free weight.

That being said, we learnt that the reason why you don't do power lifts on a smith machine is that the path of the bar makes it so that injuries are more likely to occur than on a free bar.

Squat, your footing has to be awkwardly placed in front of you so that you can rest on your heels. If not, more pressure is placed on the toes and the ball.

OHP, you hyper extend your posterior rotator cuffs and posterior rotator cuffs and your spine muscles along the neck.

Deadlift, hyper extension of the lower back muscles and tendency to roll the shoulders.

benchpress, rotator cuffs again.

There's nothing wrong with effectiveness, it's just that the form required contorts the muscles

Look closely at the Smith machine next time. If there's a cable running upwards, parallel with the guide rail then you're using a counter weighted Smith machine. Your "1pl8" which is normally 135lbs is only actually 90lbs on a counter weighted Smith machine.

Basically you're DYEL. Stick to the free weights.
