Roman civilization was mature and civil beyond its years.

But Bruce Lee excercised so hard it literally killed him.
In English we had to write a motivational paper to prepare for finals. Here's mine: I often look in the mirror. Every time I see the same thing. A man looking back. "Look at that guy" I'd say, "he's not going anywhere, he's a loser, a nobody. He's a waste of space." My opinion on this man was based of what others had said about him. I wasn't willing to give him a chance because no one else would. One day I saw him again, just as worn and cold as everyother day of the year. "I don't want to be like him" I said, so I ran looking for a safe haven. I found myself there, at the gym, cliche I know but it was better than nothing. I entered and grabbed what I could carry and began my work. After what seemed like forever I dropped my weights, feeling like atlas dropping the weight of the world off his shoulders. But to my dismay, I had only been holding 5 pounds. I looked up and saw the same man from before, drenched in sweat. "Look at that guy" , I said, "he's giving it everything he's got and he's not going to let anyone tell him he can't... I want to be just like him." So I grabbed those 5 pounds and continued. Soon, the multiplied almost 6 fold. Every time I'd want to give up, I look at the mirror and see him again, "look at him. He's only got one more left. Are you going to let him beat you by one?" And with that I used every ounce of strength I had left to beat him. To my dismay, we had tied. With that my idol became my rival. Every time I'd want to drop the weights and go home, or put down my pen and go to sleep, I'd think of him. "He only has one more rep on his workout, one more paragraph on his essay, are you going to let him beat you by one?" So I pushed through the pain and soreness of my muscles, and cleared through the clouds of writers block, in order to beat that man in the mirror. My name is anon and I am that man in the mirror. And you'd better believe that I'm not going to lose by one.
>>37092566
>Fall of Rome"
ha. This is a fallacy. Rome never died.
Rome is a state of being, not a location. The pinnacle of Rome is elegant secularism. That's why they're motives and passions can literally be quoted today and still feel fresh. Every new nation imitated them and became spiritual rome.

He regrets not making te crowning achievement of his life better.
All the work he put in, all his effort, was for that moment.
Yet he faced cowardice in that moment and wasn't strong enough to overcome it. He regrets that.
I wouldn't expect a DYEL loser faggot like you to understand what it takes in life to achieve that moment because you've never had a worthy goal in your entire life.

It's saying that you should treasure every moment you have with something, but not be surprised when you lose it. If you apply it to your life, it's telling you to treasure the time you have to live, while knowing and expecting that you eventually will die.
>>37094026
Yeah, I know. Maybe I'll just try to limit my time here. After all, I know if I leave 4chan I'll probably just waste time elsewhere.
>>37094045
It's essentially a positive take on nihilism.
You should come to expect that things, beyond objects and belongings, are finite in their existence in your life and that you truly never have any control over their conclusion. For instance, the goblet shattering and become useless in it's purpose would incite the notion of something being taken away from you by some other source not your own. Surely, you cannot control that gust of wind that by chance blew over the goblet so why must it incite any feeling whatsoever, be it anger, frustration. This philosophy extends to everything metaphysical. Rationally you cannot control forces outside of those you possess mentally and physically as an individual, and as such you accept that nothing beyond these two states is part of you beyond a memory or idea of it. If you're not part of the goblet in any way shape or form of both mental and physical, than the goblet is complete separate from your individual property. You can never become the goblet, you will never become the goblet and the goblets existence is ultimately irrelevant in your own. This relates to lovers, opinions, belongings and status. All of them together are by chance, even if you think you could have manipulated it you could not have engineered their timing and place at one certain event. If you allow this into your perspective, than why be bothered by the disappearance of what you've truly never possessed.

I seriously despise the culture that seems to be on the rise with this sense of entitlement. People are getting PROUD of being lazy, bragging about throwing tantrums, joking about how they have no money in their bank account. And then they have the goddamn gall to claim they deserve anything, even though they admit, and are even PROUD of the fact that they: 1. Don't want to work
Don't work ( it doesn't matter if you want to )
Don't try
Don't exercise
Don't save
This is ridiculous. This is the reason that I sometimes believe that everything might not be alright; because we have never had people as lazy as we do now.

Emperor Aurelius was roman. But yes, greeks were on the same evolutionary path of brilliance.
greek > roman > britain > america
Common law and modern society all rolled into one.
Also, "give unto Cesar" wasn't a jewish/christian idea. The greeks and romans already divided their sacrifices between God and emperor, way before a smelly dark-skinned middle-eastern man stole the idea. The roots of separation of church and state was already there.

The brain-dead analysis of Rome is that it was a "pagan society".
But if you actually break down the 'spirit' of rome, you see the raw elements of secularism. Rome treated religion in a very superficial way. While the emperor deified himself, he used religion as a ceremonial way of merging cultures together. If certain god(s) had to be merged or altered, he acquiesced in the pursuit of peace. It was psuedo-secularism and the trajectory was secularism.
Jews, on the other hand, had repressive religious societies filled with taboos and backwards (unalterable) laws. They started entire bloody rebellions the moment you coughed on their temple mount.
