Get a cologne that fits the season/weather. Don't wear a really tobacco heavy cologne on a hot summer day and don't wear an aquatic in a blizzard. One of my more generic ones that I like the most is Dolce & Gabbanna The One for Men. It's best suited for chilly weather but you can pull it off pretty much any time.

On a hot summer's day I will use Nautica Voyage (very cheap) or something that is citrusy or fresh smelling.

If you want to smell distinguished don't go for the super popular ones like Acqua Di Gio, Armani Code, Paco Robanne (in a nightclub), etc...
>>
>>37090269
Lol my roommate uses that cologne

But anyway, I just use my Gillette aftershave as a cologne because I'm poor and I don't wanna get cheap cologne. 3 girls have told me that I smell like their dad....... so no complaints.

Ok embarrassing question.

I've never worn cologne, how do you apply it? Do you spray it onto your clothes or your skin also how many spritz and what area of your body?
>>
>>37093202
first take a shower, next dry off. Then lightly spray some on a rag or the tips of your fingers and rub them on your neck.
>>
>>37093202
i personally spray both sides of my neck kinda below my ear area back of neck and if I'm going out shoulders too
>>
>>37092386

I wanted to love La Nuit, I really did. I use the original L'Homme though for an everyday and it's never offended anyone/gets a few compliments. Note a real knock out though.
>>
>>37092863
>Perry Ellis 360 red

Pretty much a copy of AdG from what I've heard.
>>
>>37093202

Depends on the cologne anon, some you can spray all over, others maybe twice and you're good. The sillage (projection of smell) and longevity will determine that with your body's own chemistry.

>>
>>37093464
Would scented body wash or lotion conflict with the smell of the cologne
>>
>>37093464
>rub
they aren't meant to be rubbed pleb
>>
>>37093202
Once showered and clean and dry. Spray on your hand a bit then rub your neck and upper chest. Behind your ears a bit too if you're gonna go on a date and you think you might get close.

On your wrists is nice too since if you happen to move your arm past someone itll be noticeable. If you can smell your own cologne after about a minute or two of applying it you might have put on a bit too much. Obviously if you put your nose right too it that's not the case, but if you can casually smell it coming off of yourself you want to go for less than that.

Cologne also comes in intensities. The most intense being Eau du Parfum. This is the most concentrated and will last the longest. It's also the most expensive and probably not as good for general use. It should last between 4-6 hours for an application.

Eau do toillette is the middle ground and probably the best for most things and general day to day wear. It should last you 2-4, sometimes longer but that's usually it.

Then there's Eu du cologne, it's the least intense and lowest concentration. It will last about 2 hours.

Don't put cologne on your clothes, at least not an oil based one. It can stain them. Just put it on your body and your golden. Also keep in mind if you're gonna get some samples before buying (which you can easily do from any place that sells cologne). They are usually the strongest degree.
>>

>>
>>37093540
Yes, if it's a stronger body wash it can get in the way of the cologne. But really your best bet it so ask people. Ask any females close to you their honest opinion. If you still smell good then you're fine really. But I can't imagine a dove bodywash would get in the way. I use an old spice one with their deoderant and still apply my cologne most days and people notice the cologne and not the other stuff...I would think anyway.

Well- not your dad directly. Dudes that remind you of your dad. I was horny as fuck for Bruce Willis and Harrison Ford since I was a bitty kid. Especially John McClane. Rugged, masculine, and only 3 emotions: humorful, sarcastic and angry. Just like dear ol' dad.

I swear to christ- that into scene to die hard 4 was like somebody copy and pasted the last argument I had with my dad.

Well, I guess that's a bad example, because who doesn't want to sleep with John McClane? But I can't help who my dad is like. It's ridiculous.

It's a summer day fragrance, the hotter it is outside the more it comes through.
It smells like lemons & citrus the first 20-30mins, but then dries down to a more woody/spicy smell and reminds most people of the beach.
Tons of compliments (both women & men).

>>37098236
alright
will look into that thanks anon
some guy had some type of cologne on him yesterday, smell like outright south american beach party

It's too bad YSL is an absolute shit company when it comes to respecting their customers-- once a fragrance sells enough they purposely reformulate to either cheaper ingredients or water it down without any change in labeling so that customers are duped in to buying the scent they once loved in a bastardized form.

Case and point: La Nuit De L'homme 2009 vs 2016.

If you have had bottled side-by-side you'd recognize how the 2009 version has an enduring scent while the new formulation smells watered down to begin with, then dies out completely within a couple hours.

Fuck YSL. They have great employees when it comes to designing and producing scents, but absolutely fucking scum business managers who ruin everything.

Just ask. If it's not someone you work with or go to school with then it really doesn't matter if they think it's weird or not that you want to know what they're wearing. If anything, frame it as a compliment.
>>
>>37098290
and finish the question with "no homo ofc"
>>
>>37098279
True.
The 2016 formula hardly lasts 2h desu, it's a good smell but most people continue buying it for the hype.

>>37098258
You could've just asked him.
People generally take it as a compliment that someone noticed their effort in choosing a cologne and will likely be more than eager to tell you.

i guess i could've

i'll try that versace eau for men anon, thanks!

Look into their aftershave. Lasts a little longer in my opinion
>>
>>37098317
Just a general tip, don't "blind-buy" fragrances from the internet.
If you have the chance, go to a mall or a fragrances' shop etc and test the shit on your skin, you might like a scent when you smell it on the bottle but it might smell bad/weird when it's on your skin, which is what ultimately matters.

>>37098328
Yup, i have the after-shave.
A friend gave me the whole set (fragrance-aftershave-shower gel) for Xmas.
You can make it last longer when you use them all together, but it's kind of a hassle.

La Nuit got reformulated because oakmoss was banned for use in fragrances in the EU due to people having allergic reactions. Oakmoss is a key ingredient used in many fragrances to increase longevity. Another example of a fragrances that got hit by this ban was JPG Le Male. The reformulaton had nothing to do with YSL and everything to do with legislation forcing them to reformulate.
>>
>>37098371
Well that's fucking stupid. Might as well ban all food companies from ever producing anything with peanuts or seafood because some people are allergic.

America is stupid, but at least we aren't that fucking stupid. We have a thing called ingredient labels, so people who are allergic can choose on their own not to have an allergic reaction.

Listen to somebody who knows something about smells: if you use actual eau de perfume DO NOT rub it. Not on your wrists, not on your neck. Its in a nebulizer for a reason.
A good perfume is composed of a head note, a body note, a base note and a heart note. Each of the different notes takes time to develop and unfold. The head note being the first scent you smell, body note the second and base note the last.
Rubbing your wrists together will destroy the composition of the perfume.

tl;dr: only peasants rub their perfume

In our defense, those were meant for children who are universally stupid, whereas perfumes are meant for adults.

If adults can't learn to read labels or take some personal responsibility about researching what they're allergic to (literally one trip to the doctor for a allergy test is all it takes) then they're pretty fucking stupid.

YSL should start an American branch that produces genuine scents free of bullshit legislation.
>>
>>37098620
Even if they did, I'm fairly certain the legislation would prohibit the sale of the fragrance in any EU country. There is no way that they will willingly lose that segment of their market.

Also, what kind of retarded children do you guys have down there? When I was 3 and eating kinder eggs I knew not to shove the entire fucking thing in my mouth like some mongoloid. It's understood that is how you choke and die. Besides, the parents should perhaps read the age guidelines printed on the wrappers of all kinder eggs and not give them to infants?.... MERICA!
