would anybody condone/recommend cutting calories by just drinking meal replacement shakes or something like that with multivitamin/supplements to get everything you need in terms of nutrition?

it sounds easy but I figure there's a reason everybody isn't doing it

It's probably not great. I doubt shakes will give you enough fibre, and most multivitamins give you vitamin rich pee rather than anything useful. Probably not awful though. I expect most people don't do this because it sounds gross and actual food is pleasant.

Might want to add some fruit if you're keen on it though.

I did exactly that a couple years ago. I felt like shit, got weaker, sick and the doctor said I had poor liver values.

The main problem you'll have is that simply isn't very much physical food. You will still feel hungry. Eating foods that aren't very calorie dense such as veggies will leave you with more of a "full" feeling which will make it easier to stick to a calorie deficit.

The next problem you'll run into is lack of fiber.

Makes you feel full

>Eat high fat or high protein foods and restrict carbs
Protein and fat dense foods are more filling.
High carb foods are the opposite.

Will leave you full on few calories

Meal replacement supps don't give you the feeling of being full of food.
