Pain is the same throughout, maybe a little bit more of a straining feeling when raising my legs, but nothing unbearable or no concerning difference.

Although I've torn a muscle before and I remember it being a sharp pain, this is like a very painful dull ache (actual pain though) in my lower back region

The the pain unilateral or bilateral?
>>
>>37052380
You should go see a physio for this, since my medical advice was from my dad, who is a doctor, and that was as simple as don't do anything that aggravates it. I didn't see a physio or anything, just stayed away from things that aggravated it and made it hurt like a bitch.

I deadlifted heavy (as long as it felt comfortable and didn't aggravate anything). But I was still a noob, and that was before I even started SS. When I did start SS, which wasn't until months after my diagnosis, I added like 70 lbs to my deadlift, and by that time the pain disappeared.

However, my disc bulge was extremely minor in the scheme of things, and depending on the severity of yours, may change how you treat it. It's your choice as for what to do, but I am begging you to actually go to a doctor and physio about it My symptoms lasted about 18 months or so, so good luck to you lad.

/owg/ here

oly lifting has a lot of potential benefits for powerlifting

try incorporating clean deadlifts into your routine and you will see your numbers shoot up.

You powershitters have horrible glutes and quadriceps because you don't use them.

>>
>>37052461

This is why we don't want /owg/ in here. None of the weenies actually lift. They alternate sets of jerking off to their own form checks (invariably done with less than 200 lbs on anything) with sets of jerking off to an overroided Chinese dwarf.

Frankly, if you pussies did some powerlifting style training and actually GOT STRONGER, you'd be able to snatch and clean and jerk more.
>>
>>37052485

That sounds like some sort of actual spinal problem. Most muscle injuries in the back would be more painful on one side or the other.

good form, make sure you don't lift with your back/ bend over with your back even when you aren't in the gym. that's the best you can do, it will only heal so well, and not usually to 100%

Has anyone experienced elbow discomfort during bench when using Slingshot elbow cuffs?
>>
>>37052700
Just run past them and roll as soon as one sees you.
>>
>>37052688
I see. Did you have any spine hyperextnsion at all? I usually sometimes have some anterior pelvic tilt although now that I hurt myself I have to keep a straight back or it hurts
>>
>>37052700
you mean the worm monsters that give you bleed?
>>
>>37052712
I had a friend that did, even though he got them to prevent the discomfort, since he overtucked on bench and got his elbows in front of the bar for a while. Some discomfort still went through, but not the full amount. Is yours actually caused by the cuffs?

>>37052725
My spine was fairly neutral. If I did anything that caused hyperextension it would hurt like a bitch though. Strengthening your abs couldn't hurt, with planks or something that reinforces maintaining a neutral spine. Do this after talking to a doctor/physio though and confirming that you're able to do them.
>>
>>37052752
I always thought my abs were strong. I almost squatted 4pl8 without a belt. Never used a belt.

Anyway, thanks again for the help, I appreciate it a lot.

just from experience and minor knowledge of physiology

I'm currently in the middle of realizing I know virtually nothing about weightlifting so I don't want to give much advice
>>
>>37052778
Pain occurred during squats today.
Maxed out last week fine, try it again and had to bail a squat as my lower back tweaked and became so painful I couldn't stand, sit or lay without extreme discomfort.
Almost threw up and passed out afterwards for whatever reason.

>>37052809
Thanks again
>>
>>37052843
>Knowledge from experience
One of the best ways to get knowledge is from experience, and I'm pretty sure you're of the few that (at least used to) frequent(s) plg and has been injured more than I have.

>>37052849
No problem friendo. I hope that you'll see and doctor and/or physio and will feel better soon!
>>
>>37052849

it's pretty hard to tell this early on. The severe pain + vomiting and passing out suggests big time nerve inflammation, which is worrying. Stay in bed for at least 24 hours, maybe 48 if you can, and take some NSAIDs. It's possible that it's a structural problem like a disc, but could just as easily be a fatigued lower back that you pushed too hard and caused a spasm.

Don't see a doctor quite yet. Their advice will be to wait for the injury to settle so they know what they're looking for, so give it at least a week before you see one or you'll just feel like you wasted your time. They can prescribe pain meds though if you're into that (I'm not)

>>37052895

a dubious honour
>>
>>37052441
How heavy should I do them?
As in how long should I aim to make each set?
>>
>>37052900
What is nerve inflammation and why is that bad?
Thanks for the advice though, I do have some anti inflammatorys but I thought inflammation was how the body fixes the issue so I didn't take them,
>>
>>37052506

>>
>>37052907
I do that alongside the spirit of the program. Early on I do my SLDL sets double overhand, sometimes for sets of 15+ after my regular deadlift day. I even use straps when I'm training just so I'm not putting a lot of stress on my biceps tendons. Later I may try to pull for a 1rm double overhand. I haven't been hammering grip lately but it doesn't feel compromised at all

Did you go really light on the pause deads or were they still heavy? What were the RPEs or your sets?
>>

Looked at the novice program. Looks really fucking easy desu.

I don't know, medium heavy? Like 7-8, occasional 9. Gotta go smash tacos, good luck.

If someone has a better high bar squat in flat shoes and feels more stable (more upright, slightly deeper) than in weightlifting shoes, what is the problem?

Nah but remember that you're supposed to adjust the % within the given intervals.
Fwiw think you can expect ~7% fatigue when you get to the deload before maxes (n=1 on that tho).
>>
>>37053824
then your problem is that you spend money on something that is useless to you.
>>
>>37053906
Kek 2tru but is this a mobility thing or can anyone else relate?
>>
>>37053824

Might be an experience thing. The heels take some adjusting to (and, if ankle mobility isn't the limiting factor in your squat position, may not do all that much).
>>
>>37053929
What if I've been squatting in heels for a year but it still feels worse?

It pitches my whole centre of balance forward and it's like I have to sit back more to counter it even though my ankle mobility is fine?
>>
>>37053963

Beats me. Its the first time I've heard of this being an issue after that long (at least for highbar I've heard of more people dropping them from lowbar), but if they don't help they don't help. Can't assume everyone is gonna get identical results out of equipment.

>>

>>37053929

I have this same problem and just recently stopped using my olies.

Its because I have worse hip mobility and good ankle flexibility. Wearing olys is only good if you have great hip mobility and crappy ankle mobility. Otherwise it will fuck with your depth.

It was making the front of my hip sore when i squatted with them, but not without

Kek do you guys think I should hop onto a beginner routine again?

I took my squat to 122.5kg using intermediate programming. (2.5kg/week)

I've only just realised I was eating about 2900/day when my maintenance TDEE is about 2800.

Should I try 3.3k-3.4k and a beginner program again to a 3pl8 squat?

eating your way to PRs is dumb
but if you're skinny, then yes you need to eat enough to gain weight whilst following an appropriate program
>>
>>37054363
It could be a number of things. Adductors will pull you into a rounded back position if the feel tight at the buttom of the squat given that they pull on the bottom rim of the pelvis. Glutes can also be a factor.

But, if you feel the tightness in the front of the hip when pulling knees to chest, its most likely

1. Hip morphology - having deep hip sockets means you'll never really squat ATG comfortably - or you may have to modify your stance width to give your femur more room as the joint goes into flexion

2. The joint itself is stiff. Mobilitywod that athleanx guy have some neat things you can try to work on joint mobility, I would just fart around with some banded distractions and different ways to mobilize the hip capsule until you found something that worked
>>
>>37054449
>>37054468
I weigh 165 and 5'10. You think that was probably why I had a hard time on a beginner program?
I immediately went to an intermediate routine.

Which is best right now for squats? SS,SL,GSLP,Nuckols?
>>
>>37054477
Thanks man. I thought those band distractions were a meme.

>>
>>37054503
yes eat more
i recommend +300/day calorie surplus for a year (don't forget to adjust calories based on your new TDEE every 5-10 lbs of BW that you gain). and don't fucking increase your calories when you start stalling, just change to the appropriate programming. ask plg if you're not sure
>>
>>37054557

a nerve can get irritated, esp if it get crushed or chafed, and it is not really beneficial. E.g. my radial nerve was frayed where it runs through the shoulder because of a bench issue
>>
>>37054519
one more thing actually. If you have an anterior pelvic tilt this could be essentially closing off the hip joint. That's why some people say stretching their hip flexors makes their squats better.

I'd imagine not everyone would benefit from hip flexor stretching but if you have an excessive "tilt" then you might have tight hip flexors causing the hip to already be in flexion before you even start to squat

>my radial nerve was frayed

Could I get a form check for my bench press?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gBwJy8DsNhw

My max is 205 paused, and this is 160 for an easy triple.

I've been stalled for a while and was wondering if my form is the problem. I recently upped the amount of food I'm eating a lot and started running nuckols 3x int med bench, so hopefully I'll break my plateau.

Ok so I have miserably tight hamstrings and threw my back out several weeks ago because I have to setup like I'm squatting my deadlifts

what the fuck should i do

Also, can someone advise me on pin squats as a replacement variation with TM? Good? Bad?
>>
>>37054781

I'm eating at a surplus. I eat about 3400 cals on rest days and 4k on lift days. Try to get more carbs than anything, keep protein at about 25% of my calories and fats at about 35%.
>>
>>37054557
Thanks man but in this case, should I try eating more and doing a beginner squat program since the food was an obvious issue?

I shouldn't be stalled out as a beginner on a 120kg 1RM.

It happens sometimes. I stalled at 275 on SS for squats at ~5'9, 205 lbs. There's no set numbers for anything, if you can't continue with that progression anymore, then you just can't. Of course, give it another shot or two, and try hard, but don't go at it with a specific number in mind.
>>
>>37054926
thats straight outta berserk
>>
>>37054870
Just do Texas Method or some other weekly PR program. If you add 2.5kg a week you'd have a 250kg squat in a year's time, which you won't
Beginner programs are fine for a short while, but trying to draw them out is a really poor training choice in my opinion. you've got to start looking at your training in the long term rather than trying to crank out a few more weeks of SS which isn't going to be beneficial when you're looking at the big picture
>>
>>37054943
I've been doing Nuckols 2x week beginner adding 2.5kg week and it's pretty comfy. I've done it for last 2 months (20kg).

My 1rm still looks kinda shitty and my legs don't seem to get much bigger yet.

2x > 3x if it works right?

Impossible, you must be 5'8.9 or 5'9.1 or something
>>
>>37054970
Hold on, so you haven't stalled?
What's your problem exactly?
>>
>>37054970
Stick with what works and switch when it stops working

I made the mistake of trying to draw out SS as long as I could and it ended up actually hampering my progress in the long run because I spent so much time just trying to grind out a little bit extra on the squat
>>
>>37054977
Lel, I'm a little taller, so I'm already past tall as fuck, unfortunately.
>>
>>37054999

My problem was that I stalled at 100kg 1RM on SS. (Most likely not eating enough)

I moved to Nuckols 2x week and managed to reach 120kg 1RM in 2 months.

I counted recently and figured that I am only about 100cals above maintenance which made me ask the question, is it worth increasing cals and going to back to SS for faster gains or just stick with this?

Is it worth increasing cals to get bigger or won't it make a difference?
>>
>>37055024
>is it worth increasing cals and going to back to SS for faster gains
Lol no, stick with what you're doing
If you're 5'10 165lbs, you could probably do with gaining a little weight though, so increase your calories to +300 surplus so you'll be building more muscle over time and get stronger in the long run
This is pretty simple anon
