Any tips for having more energy and focus throughout the day?

How do you guys start your mornings?

Do you take any supps or make any dietary changes for getting the most out of your day?

This is the hard part for me, unless I have some obligation where other people depend on me (work), it's nearly impossible for me to convince my sleepy brain to get out of bed and start doing shit.

Routine, especially in the morning, is incredibly important.
Some light morning exercise helps.
Try as hard as you can to keep a regular healthy sleeping schedule, it matters more than you think.

Productivity guides are usually waste of money and time but this one actually describes a pretty sound way of organizing yourself in order to get shit done.

Also, well-thought-out routines really are very helpful.

It's a matter of discipline, but I didn't develop the discipline to wake up at 4 am daily while getting 8 hours of sleep a night and getting all my shit done until I hated my living situation so much my first thought was to get out of my house.

Wake up and immediately get up and do something, can be brushing your teeth or making a cup of coffee, do this for a couple of days/weeks until it becomes a habit.
If you want to be a morning person, the best way to go about it is to just start doing it.

>get woken up "naturally" about half an hour later and be unable to go back to sleep

Repeat until you start waking up at the right time without alarm clocks or stimulants, usually starts happening after about a week but can take over a month to fully solidify as a habit. Speaking from experience trying to catch up on sleep whenever you don't have to wake up early just makes the problem worse.

The only way to conquer shitty sleeping patters is to wake up at the same time seven days a week, every week, you'll probably end up going to bed at crazy times like 4pm for the first week but eventually you'll adapt and start feeling well rested, stimulants, flux and non-narcotic sleep aids like melatonin, taurine and glycine are cheap and will also help a lot.

the time to wake up isn't the hard part for me, it's the hard bed time. I can get up at 6 daily, but if I stay up anywhere from 9 to midnight my lack of sleep eventually catches up with me.

My dad is very much like this. He was career Army, not Jocko, but closer than most Army guys. Voluntarily joined infantry during Vietnam. I woke up at 5AM once and he was mowing the yard, and he'd already taken care of other shit. Here are a few things he told me that I wrote down and do my best to take to heart:

"Don't overthink it, just fucking do it."

"You have to be disciplined. I wake up every day at 5:00 with everything set out for me to go int the morning, so if I have to get up at 4:30 and take care of an emergency I'm ready to walk out the door."

"You need more than coffee to get the blood flowing. I do 15 push-ups right out of bed, get to work early, do 50 more and take care of my day's work in the next 90 minutes. By 2PM, 3PM, I get to do what I want."

"Do what you gotta do first, then do what you want. Work hard, play hard; but, you have to work hard first. Get your shit done."

"How'd I do it? I don't know, I just did it. You read a book about it? That's great. While you were doing that, I did it and 18 other things."

There are others, but I think those are the most relevant. He gets shit done like nobody's business. Hope it helps.

There's no substitute for sleep when it comes to energy levels.
You really need to set a sleep routine as much as your work will allow.
Try things like bio lights and white noise to sleep better and try not to oversleeping even on days it's possible.

It's about having better sleep not necessarily more.

Don't worry about it, I found that if I set a very strict time to wake up(exactly 5am every morning) and forced myself to not nap or sleep until after sunset I eventually started going to sleep at 10pm automatically and started waking up without needing an alarm, once my sleep schedule was stable I also reintroduced a 30 minute siesta after lunch

This actually has origins from the Tang dynasty in China. I'm in the same boat as OP. I've been lifting/jogging and eating at a surplus for 2 days now and after I do all my fitness shit and eating I am so full and can not move. I fell asleep at 9 pm last night and woke up this morning at 10, went for a run and then ate. It is 6 pm and I've been lying in bed for the last 3 hours.
