The first and last pictures are 1 and a half year apart. 181cm, 86kg.
Squat 70~ish KG -> 180kg x5
Deadlift 80~ish KG -> 200kg x1
OHP 40~ish KG -> 75kg x2

Don't bench anymore since all it did was give me moobs. But can easily do 100kg for about 10 reps.

Thanks. I started almost a year and a half ago took me a while to get to eating enough and lifted pretty casually for a lot of that time. Over the winter got depressed at uni and let myself go for a few months but since feb I've really been going at it and have seen the best gains so far.

Day 1

Bench 4x8
Inclined Dumbell Press 4x8
Dips 3x10-12
Flyes 3x10
Barbell Curl 3x8-10
Hammer Curls 3x8
Forearm Curls 3x25

Day 2

Front Squat 4x8
Romanian Deadlift 4x8
Leg Press 4x10
Seated Calve Raises 4x15
Seated Barbell Shoulder Press 4x8
Face Pulls 3x10
Lat Raises 3x10
Shrugs 3x10

Day 3

Deadlift 5x5
Pull Ups 4xfailure
Lat Pulldowns 3x10
Bent Over Dumbell Rows 3x10
Overhead Tri Extension 3x8
Tri Pulldowns 3x10
Close Grip Bench 3x8

I cycle the days to fit my schedule but make sure to go 5-6 times a week. Wanna get back into back squats soon and alternate that with front but poor posture and core strength was leading to premature plateauing.

Thanks for the advice.

Also, I'm running 30-40 minutes before every workout. Should I stop doing that (or reduce) considering that I have trouble eating a lot?
>>
>>37027077
Yes stop that.
Get Lifesum (app) and count calories. It helped me get the motivation to eat big, I was always a 54kg skeleton at 180cm. Get the hacked pro apk if you're Android, otherwise maybe find an alternative or pay for a month to get the bulking diet settings. Its worth it, it has significantly improved my life

>>
>>37027077

personally i think running is fine because it's good to have a healthy cardio system unless your goal is to just GAIN WEIGHT AND SIZE and yeah cutting out running is going to help that but as long as you keep your calorie intake high and making sure you're getting enough protein and fats it shouldn't be that much of an issue

your body is going to naturally want more food anyways once you start doing physical shit and you don't have to eat like 3000 ~4000 calories in 3 meals you can eat it in like
5 meals throughout the day
>>
>>37026656
Sports my entire life with some random brolifting, but probably about 2-2.5 years with a real routine and smart programming now. In the before shot I was only bodyweight stuff and cardio

>>37026683
Thanks, bro.
>>
>>37027162
that face, im so sorry.
>>
>>37027077
Depends how serious you are about your lifting compared to your cardio. To think that a 40 minute run right before lifting won't affect your numbers is kind of delusional. I'm a big proponent for cardio, but I think you need to prioritize based on your goals. I usually don't run/swim on the same days I lift, especially if its a heavy day, but I'm chasing numbers.

If you just want general heart health, then a relatively slow jog, swim, or whatever after lifting shouldn't really do much damage to your lifts. If you're chasing a cardio goal and lifting goal at the same time, then good luck. That's when this actually gets hard.

>>37026520
Thats me btw. Not talking out of my ass. I was running 15 minute 5k's in the before when I was just a runnerfag who wasn't into lifting, so I definitely know both sides of it.

>>
>>37026935
I started making it a conscious effort to eat every 2-3 hours and if I'm not hungry I have a tall glass of chocolate milk because I can't stand the taste of milk alone. Also sometimes will drink a protein shake instead of eating. Also started adding cheese, avocado, and butter to a lot of foods making it taste better and more calorie dense.

Do SS

eat more

if you start to get too fat, don't eat quite so much more

push yourself in your workouts, but use good form

sleep 8 hours a night

Holy fuck dude. You were legitimately auschwitz mode. Surprised your parents didn't get turned in for child neglect.

Congrats on the progress though, you're making great strides. That much weight in that amount of time shows how badly your body wanted this. Keep going brother.
>>
>>37026385
You can't just make up a number and pretend that's your body fat. If you don't have a dexa scan then it's just a guess. And frankly, your guess is shit. You have zero muscle to speak of so all of your body weight is fat. You are sorta skinny but still have some fat on you, it's hard to estimate on someone with so little muscle, but there is no way in hell you're near 10. You're probably more like 20%.

Just being honest with you. The most important thing for you is to get muscle and that means lifting weights. Then worry about your body fat.

I agree with you, but there is no fucking way you ran 15 min 5k's and gave it up to lift. 15 min 5k's would mean you go to a college on a Div I Track Scholarship and would have ran in the Olympic Quals for the 5k (which has a 15:25:00 Qual Time). You don't just give that up to lift weights; getting there in the first place takes around a decade + a lot of innate talent. On top of that, your body looks nothing like an Olympic Caliber 15:00 runner. You just look like a casual.

Choose a more believable number next time.

I started at 52kg after my fourth surgery (Crohn's disease, they had to cut out a meter of intestine. I still dont like to eat, etc, which is probably my biggest problem). Took half a year for all the muscle groups to heal and graduate from physio therapy to sports.

Left pic was taken at 80kg (I am 193cm)

Now, half a year later, I am 86kg, and while I lift heavier, it somehow still feels like I am making minimal progress compared to what I see on /fit/ all the time.

Its depressing at times. Compared to the Auschwitz pics from when I was really sick I look (and feel) much better. But when I started lifting 2 years ago I printed out a picture of Captain America. I am tenacious enough to not give up, yet every once in a while I find myself wondering if I'll ever manage to even remotely look like that.

On the plus side, a friend of mine (she's a personal trainer and competes in bodybuilding) said I look much better now. Got to enjoy the little things, I suppose.

I started doing a bit of a home routine before that summer. I used to play sports a lot but lost all interest and ended up doing nothing for 6 years before going to the gym.

Started out as an actual skeleton and decided I'd had enough. I bulked like a mother fucker and gained 70 pounds in a year. Way too much fat, but it was worth it. Started at 6'4 130 pounds, bulked to 200, and then cut to 185. I'm going to start bulking again when I get home from college. I'd appreciate advice on how to improve this time around. Updating with progress.

>>
>>37031477
what the fuck happened during your cut? You would look much better if you maintained your muscle mass. Did you stop lifting heavy and go for meme rep ranges? how many calories did you eat?

Regardless you look decent for 6'3
>>
>>37034992
keep cutting man, you can drop to 170 without much problems.
You will be leaner, and thus look more muscular.
>>
>>37035183
Are you sure? I feel like I might be way to small. My lifts are suffering from the cut. I'm 6'4, wouldn't 170 be WAY to small?
>>
>>37035183
>>37034992
I'd say it depends on your preferences. You'd be an acceptable ottermode if you keep cutting or you can bulk again (clean as you can) if you would prefer size. There isn't a right answer
>>
>>37035234
I feel like size was my primary goal the first time around, but now I'm leaning more towards aesthetics. I gained a shit ton of weight and I'm healthy now. The thing is though, I still have a pretty flat chest. Would I even be able to do Otter mode?

mass wont come easy but you will look better lean. I mean its the end goal so why not?
As for your lifts, Id say its in your head for the most part.
Dont forget that lower bf equals better facial aesthetics

this is me after a year of lifting or so at ~175 , 6'4".

>>
>>37025082
You're too high a bf to really tell but work on widening your upper torso; specifically focusing on your lats and delt regions. Work on your core also.

Once you've gained enough mass cut and you should look alright.

Left is February 2015 at 65 kg (143 lbs) and right is April 2016 at 84 kg (185 kg).

I bulked from February 2015 to March 2016 (went from 65 kg (143 lbs) to 91.5 kg (202 lbs). I am currently cutting down to 80 kg (176 lbs).
>>
>>37035307
I'm not >>37035262
but I think you're going to need a bit more mass before you should cut. You have definitely made a huge improvement but need to keep growing.
>>
>>37035329
>>37035307
you definitely made some nice progress man
>>
>>37035307
You don't have enough lean mass to cut yet. That doesn't mean you have to bulk like shit and become obese, just keep your calorific intake the same as it is now to maintain your current weight. Then workout like shit.
Considering you look < 20yrs you should look decent after 6 months, then you can consider cutting.
>>
>>37035341
Yeah that's kind of what I'm thinking. I mean I don't have much more to cut, and I have a lot more to fill in. I probably bulked to fast, but probably worth it. Going from 130-200-185 all within a year was not easy. I'm thinking a slower bulk this time around. What are the best things I could do for this time? I appreciate all the feedback.
>>
>>37035364
Yeah I'm 19. I look way older than I did before though. Although at 200 I did look a bit older too. So why maintenance and not just bulk? I'm primarily doing strong lifts and doing the basic 5x5 workout.

>>
>>37035366
No worries man. I'm not an expert but these are my thoughts.
>Look at TDEE using Katch mcardle formula
>Add 300ish to that
>Track calories daily with approximately 1 gram per lb
>Try PPL
>Low volume compounds at start (3x5) and moderate intensity on accessories (3x8-10) and really focus on progressive overload.
>>
>>37035400
His routine was insulin but he never mentions it so people think he worked hard.
>>
>>37035408
I've been doing strong lifts to increase my lifts, they're still not where they need to be. Should I continue this routine? Maybe just add accessories? Also I can still drink milk and eat peanut butter for bulking right?

>>
>>37035428
Honestly just try ppl for a month and see how it feels. No one can say what you 'should' do. Definitely add accessories if you don't. Yeah milk and peanut butter is fine as long as it fits your macros. Flexible dieting isn't a meme and it is worth spending 10 mins a day tracking your food on MyFitnessPal or related app
>>
>>37035453
I'd be fine working out six days a week this summer, so I can definitely try it. Is ppl as easy to progress? Is ppl good for beginners too? Also can you give me the tldr about macros? I usually just count calories and that's about it. My last bulk was about as dirty as it gets.
>>
>>37035474
You can also do pplxpplx if pplpplx is too much volume. 'Coolcicada's PPL' is a good place to start for a routine but you can customise it as you go (advantage of PPLs)
Typically its harder to progress with strength than a 5x5 and its more geared towards gaining size. Though you'll still get stronger of course with doing heavy compounds at the start.
PPL is an intermediate routine that you might typically move to after 3 months of a 5x5 programs.

There are 3 types of macros, protein, carbs and fat. You need to make sure you have a decent amount of protein (1gram per lb is a typical benchmark) and have fats at around 20-30% calories and carbs the rest.
Dirty bulking is a bad meme imo. You can only add muscle at a certain rate and eating much higher than 500 over your TDEE is just going straight to fat and will waste your time when you go to cut it.
>>
>>37035509
About how much should I be lifting before I move on from the 5x5 strong lifts?
>>
>>37035379
You look like you're > 12% bf at least, there's no benefit to going > 15% bf except you get to eat nice stuff and not give a fuck. Assuming you're getting proper nutrition you're at a good enough bf to build and maintain muscle.

Why strong lifts and 5x5? I noticed you said your goal was aesthetics - strong lifts etc is not the most efficient way to achieve your goal.

Do a 5 day split, a day for each muscle group (chest, back, shoulders, arms, legs) and throw in abs once every 3 days. Do reps between 12 - 15, 8 if you're trying to move on to a heavier weight; if you can't push out at least 8 reps lower your weight. I'd recommend 4 sets per exercise, doing at least 6 exercises per muscle group (8 exercises for arms, 4 for each bi/tri).
>>
>>37035530
Yeah so definitely bulk. So you think I'm somewhere between 12 and 15? I guess that's not too bad. I've been doing strong lifts 5x5 because I'm not that strong, it's a pretty easy workout, and it's worked in the past. I'm definitely okay with doing a 5 or 6 day split, whatever gets me the most progress.
>>
>>37035523
Its personal. Most people move on after they consistently stall.
I agree with >>37035530 that doing more volume is better and you have a good base, but doing brosplits is definitely not as good as a PPL or a Upper lower split (ULxULxx) because your body take about 48 hours to recover after a workout to recover so it makes no sense waiting 6 days before hitting that area again.
>>
>>37035583
Yeah I think I'm going to try ppl. I found out I had a shitty gym partner and he was spotting me way too much. I was benching a plate 25 for example, but when I stopped working out with him I realized I couldn't even lift that much. Then I started cutting and my lifts started falling a little bit. Now I only bench reps of like a fucking plate. That's my main concern with doing something like ppl.
>>
>>37035611
Go for it man. I wouldn't worry about it too much, you'll still make good strength gains on it.
>>
>>37035649
That's pretty encouraging. By the end of summer is it possible to be benching about two plates? I mean how fast of progress should I be expecting?
>>
>>37032172
Obviously I don't mean 15 minute flat, but assure you I definitely broke into the 15s. I'm in the Marines, and there are people who run in the 15s and 16s who have never once competed in cross country or track. Rare sure, but out there.
>>
>>37031499
>>37031530
>>37031360
I used to be a fat ass, cut down to a lanky phaggot, and now I'm trying to gain weight. Eating a lot is harder than cutting for some people.
>>
>>37035611

>>37035583 might be right and PPL might be better for you to progress to after a strong lift regime but definitely up the volume of your sets/reps.

However, if PPL doesn't work for you I'd consider the split. I've achieved a significant increase in muscle mass and strength, I'm repping 50kg db chest and 42kg db shoulders - something I never thought I'd achieve.
>>
>>37035670
Its impossible to say it depends on your genetic largely I'd say. Something like plus 2.5 kilos per week with upper body and 5 for lower body. Doesn't sound like much but it would be 10 kgs/month which adds up. But remember this program is for a combination for size and strength, not strength specialized. I went from 3x10 40 kgs to 3x5 87.5 kgs in just over half a year. I'm out, good luck!
>>
>>37035704
Stupid question, by increase volume you mean like going from a 3x5 to a 3x8 or something to that extent right?
>>
>>37035724
Thanks for the help anon, it's associated.
>>
>>37035726
Yeah. I think it largely depends on the individual but I've found that my sweet spot for increasing muscle mass seems to be within the range of 12 - 15 reps with 4 sets.

Stay jelly. Ill paypal you 50 bucks if you can provide ONE source that diabetics have an easier time gaining muscle. If you eat 100 grams of carbs your body will create just as much insulin as i inject. So stop projecting your failures on me lel.
Pretty much every source i've found says that diabetics have an even harder time staying lean and building muscle since we don't create the hormone peptide amylin by ourselves.
Like i said, if you find me one source that isn't some thread on BB.com or something similar ill give you 50 bucks.
I can't even eat protein powder or creatine since diabetes fucks with the kidneys

it's alright auschwitzbro, I was in your position a year ago. Download myfitnesspal to track your calories, do stronglifts or starting strength. If you don't feel confident about a particular exercise, look up videos on form on youtube.

the important thing is just to eat more. breakfast, lunch, dinner, and high-calorie high-protein snacks in between. 500+ calories over your daily requirements is a solid bulk to stay on for awhile, I shoot for 3,000 calories a day and you're my height.

don't overthink it. Just lift and eat. eat, eat, eat.
