10 wks ago I was conventional DL
Did my warm ups. Started work sets.
Set 1) 485 x 5
set 2) 515 going for 5 get 3 then......
My wife was behind me which I didn't know and she threw a bunch of 12' moulding next to me and distracted me.
My lower back cracked (like when you crack your back).
Some pain but not a lot. Dropped the weight and did the rest of my accessories - no problems. No pain next day.
Gave it 3 weeks of no dead lifts. Same thing this time with only 385.
Gave it 4 weeks of no deads. Same thing with only 315.
I'm able to hit heavy goodmornings, reverse hypers, weighted back extensions with no pain or ill effects.

I know its not a disc issue, anybody have a clue. Form is not the problem. I do these without a belt for the past 5 yrs with zero problems. Could it be a muscle injury? The only change to my routine prior to this was about 12 wks prior doubled up on the ab & core work.

I was the anon posting about sciatica a few months ago.
Back is in low level pain pretty often, shoots down to legs.
I took time off training and it got way worse, i was doing stretches and nerve flossing, pain doubled really.
I've found that doing a 5x10 back extension with 60kg or 5x10 good morning with 60kg completely eliminates the pain in my back for a few days, same thing when i do direct ab stuff.

I was able to pull a PR of 220kg for 5 reps the other day (best was 220x3 and 220x5 off blocks. I was reading up on sciatica and a lot of people had success overcoming it by doing direct lumbar strengthening stuff like back extensions, a phsyio mate also told me strengthening the area around the injury is going to help quality of life.

should i see a physio? this shit is ridiculous. the variation in answers and treatments is bleh.

Feet straighter. They don't need to be completely straight in front of you, but the way you have them is way way to open. It kills the external rotation force (knees out, screw feet into ground, etc). May also lead to knee strain since you won't be able to get them to line up properly with your toes and ankles since you're that fucking wide. Like seriously dude, what the fuck, I'm gonna say you should probably know better on that one.

It looks like you would be fine with slightly more forward knees so you aren't parallel to the floor at the bottom if you have the ankle mobility. Another couple inches knee travel won't turn it into an oly squat, but it will help you keep a more upright torso to help compensate the long femurs.

Tighten that belt and raise it up another couple inches. You want to increase abdominal pressure as much as possible, and moving it closer to the diaphragm is going to help that.

Lastly, do some hip mobility work, you need it.

The thing is that i lose form really quick. My squat is really strong, 250-260kgs, but i lose form BADLY with 225kgs(500) in deadlifts. I have been doing romanians, lock-outs, deficit, etc, but it just won't work. I get really frustrated because i feel that if i can correct my form i could be competitive.

not really that either no, more a preference thing, if you really want to learn how to bench heavy weights with no nagging pains while wearing no wrist wraps you wont learn that by using wrist wraps

i dont think that should take priority over getting a stronger bench for bb, pl or anythign else strength related though

I don't see why not. I think bench gets a bad rap because people try to maximize it's effectiveness as a chest builder and rape their shoulders in the process. Even if I only cared about hypertrophy I'd still bench with a hard arch and tucked elbows, anything else feels cancerous for my shoulders.

Depends how good you are with the technique - some lifters need the constant reinforcement, some can forgo it for a bit to work on something else. Some guys find that they need to progressively arch up more as they warm up or they'll pull something. Also some people find they cannot hold their comp form for longer sets and have to do their volume work with a different setup.

I've been doing my set-up for every bench rep I've done since I've learnt how to do it.
Maybe it's not the best because I can seem to maintain it throughout all those reps and sets.

I just don't know for muscle development or something unforeseen if I'm screwing myself over.

The legs-up bench is typically a hypertrophy thing because it lets you use lighter weights for the same effect and you don't have to worry about your hips or back or whatever cramping up from holding a big arch for too long. Some people use it for developing strength out of the bottom of the lift (you've got no leg drive and a greater ROM) but a lot of people find that form tears up their shoulders.

Its by no means universal, but a lot of higher end lifters periodise their training to have blocks where heavy work with the comp lifts is put on the backburner to improve stuff they'll later use to improve their total - building work capacity, putting on more size, fixing weak points or whatever.

Titaniums. Once you've used them a few times they'll be better.

I'd recommend inzer iron Zs too for self wrapping. Easy nine revs, more carryover than self wrapped thps or sig golds.

I also self wrap the sbd competition wraps. That works surprisingly well but I don't get much coverage.
