I live in Canada, and we all have to pay into healthcare. We end up paying for these hamplanets when they eventually do have a heart attack or a diabetic coma.
But if I want to avoid getting sick like that, and go to the gym and eat right, I have to pay for that stuff out of my OWN POCKET. If I want to avoid obesity and it's related diseases, I have to pay for it with my own blood, sweat, and wallet.
So in order for me to become less of a burden on the tax payers, I have to fucking work my ass off and pay my way to make sure that I don't. It's a fucking ridiculous system.

There's no "smoking positivity" movement, because smoking (and other tobacco products) causes a litany of health problems, and we recognize smoking as "bad" behavior. We don't allow smoking in most places anymore, and we tax those products significantly, because we want to provide incentive for people to stop smoking.
The same should apply to obese people. Extra taxes on unhealthy food. Airplane tickets by weight. Not allowing chronically obese people to claim disability. Anti-obesity ads on television. Not allowing unhealthy foods to be bought on food stamps based on the BMI (or BF percentage) of the stamp recipient. Taxes on sugary drinks, and nutrition labels that are easier to understand.
If we want to stop obesity, we need to implement a number of incentives for people to lose weight.
*And just a pet peeve of mine, just because someone's poor, does not mean they're allowed to be obese. Lots of poor people, especially in the South, are obese. No, they can't afford to buy stuff at Whole Foods, but clearly they're buying way more than they need considering how fucking fat they are. They sure as hell aren't starving if they weight 300 lbs.

True. There's a lot of misinformation out there about health and weight loss.
When I was growing up my mother use to buy these women's magazines which had all sorts of "health tips" in them. Stupid shit like you can still eat anything you want and loose weight by drinking 2 cups of some type of tea everyday. Or how blueberries help cut down on stubborn belly fat. They were also full of those shitty fad diets like 'loose 21 pounds in 21 days by following this chocolaty milkshake diet' stuff.
She use to leave her magazines sitting around the house and whenever I'd get bored I'd grab one and flip through it and for the life of me, I don't remember any one of them ever saying anything about counting calories (unless it was telling you that if you add more kale to your diet then you won't have to, or something equally retarded).
I don't buy men's magazines but I have noticed a cover or two advertising things like "get 6 pack abs in only 6 weeks" and other stuff like that. It doesn't really surprise me that a lot of people are uneducated on even the very basics of fitness. Especially, since I see the same shit I use to see in my mother's magazines now on a ton of "health & fitness" websites.
It really is sort of sad because there are fat people out there who want to loose weight but constantly fail at it because they don't know what they're doing.
