My buddy told me every now and then he will do like 1-2.5lb weights for 100 reps. 2-3 sets.
Has anyone ever really been far as decided to do this?
Most of the high reps debunkers were at 20-30 but 300 reps must do something right?

Not unless he's on gear

I tried a 10 kg 100 rep set once. It hurts like a motherfucker when you reach 60-ish. I don't know if it's better than just doing a regular 3x3 or 5x5 or something, but it's a different kind of exhausted.

anon please I'm not done working out
We used to have contests in high school to see who could bench the bar the most. It was actually pretty damn tough to break 100. I think the record out of my friends doing that was 120/130ish.

He's on test so yea that's why I was skeptical considering I do a 3 day split with a lot of compounds.
Lucky I have dumbells at home so I don't have to stand at the gym doing 300 presses.

Sounds to me like your buddy is on juice, this is extreme hypertrophy training (repetitively putting blood in the muscle). Natural lifters receive the best gains from a mixture of strength and conditioning training with a bit of hypertrophy training. Whereas someone on steroids will focus mostly on hypertrophy and get the best results.
That's what old timey strongmen like Sandow used to say to do as well. It wasn't that effective for them lol.

What exercise are we all referring too?
