Hi /fit/, first time in a while being here. I re-read over the sticky, and it didn't quite answer the question I'm looking to get answered.

To keep it short, I'm going for a SERE position in the Airforce. In order to get said position, I have to hit the following requirements:
>300 meter swim in 10 minutes
>1.5 mile rune in 10 minutes
>48 pushups in 2 mins
>48 situps in 2 mins
>8 pull ups in 2 mins

I'm 160 pounds, 6'1; male. I've been working on the running, improving my time each time; but still nowhere near my goal.

My main concern, however, are the pushups, pull ups, and the swim.

I'll just shorten my questions to greentext to keep things brief.

>Are there any cheap distance tracking watches for swimming?
>Ideally, how do i want to attempt to improve my pushup stamina? I can do twenty or so, straight, without having to rest.
>I cannot even manage one pull-up at this point in time, how can I go about fixing/improving this aspect?

Thanks ahead of time for any answers.

Bump. Please help me, /fit/

do people actually have those shit thoughts all day?

I dunno check out the Speedo Shine or Basis Peak or something. I don't know what happened to Basis Peak but it was selling for $110 for a while. Problem with the Speedo Shine is it only counts laps, not steps. Misfit Shine only counts steps, not laps. Trackers aren't going to do SHIT though, so don't bother wasting money.

To increase your pushup stamina, just keep training for stamina. Volume, volume, volume. Scooby has a decent guide on it, but basically use a backpack to do weighted pushups to failure, then lose the backpack and immediately drop set to failure again. Leave 48 hours rest between workouts, don't be a retard and think your sheer anime willpower will let your body complete protein synthesis faster than normal. There are cadets who do 100-110 pushups in 2 minutes so honestly don't bitch about 48.

Actually Scooby pretty much covers all of this, because what you're talking about is basically beginner to intermediate fitness levels.

I feel like the 300m swim is a meme. That's 3 laps in an oly pool. Who the fuck can't do that in 10 mins? That's 1.1 mph lmao.

for pushups, look up scooby's program. Essentially what you're going to do is alternate training between high rep and high weight (either by setting weights on your body, or by elevating your legs).

Start with negative pullups. Left yourself up on a box or with a jump, and then use your arms to slowly control your descent until you have enough strength to do a full pullup.

Thanks for the answers.
I'll look into following Scooby's stuff. I was also recommended the rittr pushup app by a friend who's in the military, do you guys know if that's worthwhile or not?

Basically it asks for your current performance, then advises reps based off whatever you're currently at vs where you want to be.

So, my first workout with it, it advised 5 sets, with reps ranging from 7-8 at a time; and you're supposed to continue doing the advised reps it provides day after day, instead of waiting 48 hours.

My main worries with the swim is that it has to be with a specific type of stroke; which I've never been trained in.

Again, really appreciate all the answers.

I'm curious, what stroke is it?

Maybe a dumb idea, but you could go to the pool at a quiet time and ask one of the life guards to show you? I can't imagine it is that difficult to learn. Unless it's the butterfly one, which is retarded.
>>

it looks like the USAF website says the SERE PAST is

>200-meter swim – free style, breast
stroke, side stroke – 10:00 minute time
limit
>1.5-mile run – less than 11:00 minutes
>Pull-ups (1 min) – 8 reps
>Sit-ups (2 min) – 48 reps
>Push-ups (2 min) – 48 reps

Sidestroke is like the natural human mechanism for swimming and it's easy as shit since your head doesn't go under water. I don't see the problem. Breast stroke is also EASY. and doesn't even really take training. You can learn it in like 10 mins.

Seriously though it's 200m in 10 mins. That's .75 mph. How do you even need to train for that?
>>
>>36921750

I think I could do all of those, but I'm not sure about the pushups or situps. I have no idea how long it takes to make 10 pushups, for instance.
>>
>>36921750
OP here. My only worry comes from being unfamiliar with the swimming itself-- I didn't realize it was such an easy mark to hit.
>>
>>36922095
Don't listen to these haters, it's always a good idea train before anything.
>>
>>36920947
You have to hit those requirements, but you have to be able to hit them multiple times over. Seriously, you'll run for multiple miles, you'll keep doing more push-ups than you can count. Other guys here have good advice, I just wanted to say that these requirements should be easy-peasy by the time you go to basic.
>>
>>36922505
Got it. I know a lot of folks don't prep for basic but I'm trying not to make that mistake. Right now I'm skelly mode but I'm definitely trying to improve in whatever ways I can.
>>
>>36922585
Basic's nothing compared to SERE school. They have the highest dropout rate of any AFSC.
>>
>>36922676
That's what I've heard. Do you know what exactly causes them to drop out? I figured most of it is simply mental.
>>
>>36922689
Yeah, man. The physical aspect is grinding, but it's the lack of sleep and non-stop bs that drives people to drop. That's what the 2x SERE specialists in my squadron told me.
>>
>>36922095
You should still train a little, you don't want to look like a drowning retard. As said though, the time is really slow. It's 8 lengths in a standard pool, or 4 lengths of an olympic pool. Just swim every now and then until you're confident in doing the 2-300 meters without stopping and watch some youtube videos on sidestroke and on BASIC breaststroke (actual racing breaststroke is pretty technically complicated as far as strokes go and will be a waste of your time).
>>
>>36922701
Non-stop bs?

Also, what is their duty within your squad? From my understanding, SERE specialistis typically stay in one location to train others. Is that not the case?

Also, might as well ask since I'm being pushed to it; how are mechanical positions/jobs?
>>
>>36922765
Yeah. Basically busy work and non-stop hazing's a good way to put it. I'm in a fighter squadron and we have 2x SERE specialists here. They take us out into the woods for evasion training, take us to the lake for water survival, and do classroom training on other stuff. All of it is to maintain currency on SERE and prior to deployment.
>>
>>36922852
>non stop hazing
Oh shit, like what?

Are you stationed domestically, or over-seas? And when you deploy, do the SERE specialists go with you?
>>
>>36922931
I couldn't tell you the specifics, man. I'm stationed in the US. The SERE guys don't deploy with us. We have 2 for 3x fighter squadrons, and 1's deployed right now. They deploy to AOC's to be reps in the JPRC for personnel recovery. We're supposed to have a SERE specialist at our deployed bases, but they're undermanned so they don't get enough people to fill their billets.
