I think it's great in several ways (moral/ethical, health, environmental)

But it is very difficult to incorporate into your life, especially from a fitness standpoint.
I tried some vegan high-protein recipes for one day. Everything felt like chewing on salty rubber :|

Also, I made a video on this topic (shameless self-plug) and referenced Jon Venus. He actually replied in the comments below.

lol xD so randumb omg so many dank memes
>>
>>36920273
Thanks man!

Yeah I want to do maybe a legit 3 day or 1 week attempt at it. I'd have to take it seriously though.

I just got some tofu-based imitation chicken breasts, and regular firm tofu for stir fry. The chicken breasts were rubber and the stir fry came out to be OK, but I spent legit like $5 to get the same amount of protein as 90 cents worth of chicken breast.

It's absolutely doable, but I think it is a lot harder and more expensive. Also I had pea protein, tastes like sand.
>>
>>36920305
Ive found veganism way cheaper by going raw. If you eat hard you dont have to rely on powders, but i know not everyones up for eating that much beans and nuts lol
>>

fuck veganism, fuck the environment, fuck animals. if you don't think humans are superior and other animals are nothing but fuel for us you're part of the problem

Depends what your definition of superior is.

Falling for the vegan meme having no idea veganism was used in India to keep the people weak and docile. Hey my money needs to make money and the vegans will make excellent customers for the medical establishment when they get their related illnesses.
>>
>>36920341
superior as in we have the ability, through the use of language and a brain capable of almost infinite thought processes, as well as our own self awareness, to dominate all other animals on this planet. we can move faster than any other animal, travel further than them, kill more efficiently than them and domesticate them in order to use their own special skills, such as a dogs sense of smell, for our own use

But we also cry ourself to sleep because we pulled the skin of our penis to small lights combined making a picture of a man shoving his erect penis into another mans well shaven butthole, until we eject sperm all over ourself, causing us to question why we did it and what implications it has, further making us sad because that's as far as close to touching another human being we can get. Then we remember we are not born in a part of the world some people a long time ago named India and feel a bit better about ourselves. All this to barely motivate us to not kill ourself, EVEN though we are "superior" to other species.

At least walruses don't have to put up with that shit. I'd say humans are the weak species.
>>
>>36920326

No environment = no humans

Humans are clearly superior, but that is why the burden of responsibility falls on us. It's like the teacher-student relationship in kindergarten. You accept responsibility as the superior one and protect the inferior one because it is still a symbiotic relationship. We need them and they need us.

I think the problem legit stems from overpopulation and capitalism.

We used to eat WAY less meat than we do now and animal agriculture was normal aka farms and animals living decent lives until they're used for food.

Now we kill WAY more, WAY earlier, and in WAY worse ways. I'm not some little hippie who wants to protect and hug cows all day, but I don't think it's morally right to make their lives a living hell from legit day 1 until their premature death.

Then again it's our faults as consumers. We always want the most product for the least $ so in turn, companies cut costs, increase raw materials, and the animals pay the price.

Ideally I would adapt to a diet which consists of 1/2 or less the current quantity of meat and the price of meat rises as living standards and quality of life for animals increases.

my 2 cents.

Eat in a caloric surplus consisting of a diet high in quality carbohydrate sources and lean meats aka adequate protein intake.

Lift hard and heavy-ish with an emphasis on compound movements like squats/bench/deadlifts

You mean your car does

The planes do, not you.

Your automatic Ak47 can.

A cow could literally kill you with ease if you didnt have these tools

They were given to you. You didnt invent any of them. You would be throwing stones if it wasnt for smart engineers.

From what I read/watched on youtube videos.
>person eats high amounts of carbs/sugar/bad food their entire or part of their life
>bad habits catch up and sugar slips into the bloodstream and begin to destroy various parts of the body, roll the dice on what it wants to damage

Arteries.
>the inflammation begins to affect the arteries (and other organs)
>the natural healing process goes into action to recover the damage on the arteries
>but the person continues to eat sugar and bad food, and damage continues against the body.
>artery walls continue to inflate, and the natural process of the body contributes to destruction of arteries
>the LDL cholesterol(either from food or your body already) combined with trapped calcium and the healing enzymes all get stuck in the damaged sections of the arteries
>person keeps eating sugar, taking vitamins, exercising, putting more stress on the heart and nothing has healed, it just keeps getting inflamed more and more and damaged, until a clot forms.
And this is where you get your strokes and heart attacks.

Then the FDA/Diabetes/Heart Association blames it on saturated fats/meats and lack of exercise.

Well. Most of these tinfoilers are in good shape with white teeth, high energy, stories about reversing their chronic diseases. And your average "cholesterol is the devil" scientists are referencing from older "peer reviewed" articles, that are scientifically sound, but are not telling us the entire story.

So cholesterol does contribute to plaque, but if your body is already producing it in such high volume? Where does the heart disease come in? Surely there's more to it then, "he just kept eating meat bro"
>>

Heeeeeh heh heh. Right, any 20 year old who lifts weights and makes youtube video is better informed than scientists with decades of training and experience who have dedicated their careers to this exact thing. Come on. What if 22 year old bodybuilder Spunky Spiff from the MassiveGainsBrosCOMEON4scoops youtube channel said sugar is good for you? Would he be right if he had 6 pack abs and a nice smile?
>>
>>36920239
Fuckkkk please say this post is b8? The level of faggotry in this video burns my eyes.
>>
>>36922662

>>
>>36922600

>So cholesterol does contribute to plaque, but if your body is already producing it in such high volume? Where does the heart disease come in?

Saturated fats increase the amount of cholesterol that stays in your blood. The higher your cholesterol, and specifically LDL cholesterol, the sooner/more likely it is that the LDL particles will build up plaques on the arteries. Elevated LDL alone can form plaques, so even if you were doing everything else perfectly, you can still develop atherosclerosis from that one problem.
>>
>>36922662
anyway the "tin-foiling" is just telling you why sugar is bad, what it's doing to your body. There are athletes with pre-diabetes and type2 just cause they keep drinking gatorades.
>>
>>36922703

Usually when it's a "doctor" making the videos it's some quack with a batshit theory no respected scientist would agree with.

how is your face so clean
>>
>>36922730
well find me one of those videos or books then. Cause the only people arguing against it are youtube comments from 60 year olds telling everybody eggs are bad.

>>36922714
right, but it's not LDLs alone, there are other factors, like inflammation and calcium. Plaque is calcification of the cholesterol. And your arteries will keep getting inflamed from bad habits.
>>
>>36922752

High LDL is, itself, inflammatory, as are most foods that contain saturated fats.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18751966
>>
>>36922752

http://www.heart.org/HEARTORG/Conditions/Cholesterol/WhyCholesterolMatters/Atherosclerosis_UCM_305564_Article.jsp#.Vx5r9VNrVEI

It's a complex process. Exactly how atherosclerosis begins or what causes it isn't known, but some theories have been proposed. Many scientists believe plaque begins to form because the inner lining of the artery, called the endothelium, becomes damaged. Three possible causes of damage to the arterial wall are:

Elevated levels of cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood
High blood pressure
Cigarette smoking

Smoking greatly aggravates and speeds up the growth of atherosclerosis in the coronary arteries, the aorta and the arteries of the legs.

Because of the damage, fats, cholesterol, platelets, cellular debris and calcium accumulate over time in the artery wall. These substances may stimulate the cells of the artery wall to produce other substances, resulting in the accumulation of more cells in the innermost layer of the artery wall where the atherosclerotic lesions form. These cells accumulate, and many divide. At the same time, fat builds up within and around these cells. They also form connective tissue.

The arterial wall becomes markedly thickened by these accumulating cells and surrounding material. The artery narrows and blood flow is reduced, thus decreasing the oxygen supply.

Often a blood clot forms and blocks the artery, stopping the flow of blood. If the oxygen supply to the heart muscle is reduced, a heart attack can occur. If the oxygen supply to the brain is cut off, a stroke can occur. And if the oxygen supply to the extremities is reduced, gangrene can result.
>>
>>36922828
Right so Allergic reactions like dairy or nuts?

>>36922858
>plaque begins to form because the inner lining of the artery, called the endothelium, becomes damaged.
Yeah that corroborates with a lot of the resources I've been looking at(mostly youtube videos in all honesty)

But particularly the damage. What is the true source of the damage, what is the problem? And it's like what you added, but those are symptoms. Smoking is awful, but it's an accelorator for further damage. But what about just inflammation from high levels of glucose in the body? Why is there hundreds of testimonies about people reversing their chronic illnesses from cutting out sugar? Why are there high level athletes like Dwight Howard with prediabetes?

And since it is a mystery, we can't just say "It's high LDLs" Because then the problem is already solved.

Among many diet-related things, saturated fats and dietary cholesterol cause endothelial dysfunction

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16904539
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20598142

Smoking also does cause damage from all the free radicals it forms, something refined sugars cause as well

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2517732/

>Why is there hundreds of testimonies about people reversing their chronic illnesses from cutting out sugar?

Refined sugars are unhealthy so you would expect people to become healthier when avoiding them. Also, there's millions of anecdotes for everything. Why do thousands of people claim to be abducted by aliens?

>can't just say "It's high LDLs" Because then the problem is already solved.

What's bad about having solved the problem?

>>
>>36922977

Another paper that talks about inflammation and cholesterol

http://circ.ahajournals.org/content/118/6/672.full

>we call attention again to an impressive series of articles59–61,64 showing that returning cholesterol-fed rabbits to a chow diet—and thus lowering their blood cholesterol without pharmacological intervention—markedly reduced many proinflammatory processes associated with lesion progression.
>Taken together, all of these findings suggest that the inflammation associated with atherogenesis is not sufficient in itself to cause further lesion progression or even to maintain lesions at a steady state once the hypercholesterolemia has been fully corrected. In other words, many (or even most) of the inflammatory processes in the advancing lesion are downstream responses ultimately traceable to hyperlipidemia and its consequences. Consequently, early and aggressive correction of hypercholesterolemia may be sufficient. On the other hand, if hypolipidemic therapy is initiated at, say, 40 or 50 years of age, optimal intervention will no doubt also require attention to inflammation, thrombosis, and hemodynamic factors

Basically the issue of inflammation in heart disease mostly has to do with the inflammation caused by having high cholesterol, and lowering cholesterol is the best thing to do for prevention.

What kind of heart disease did you get diagnosed with? There's practically no chance you have atherosclerosis unless you're 50+ years old

Regardless, look into legumes as well (lentils, beans, peas). They're very healthy foods. And don't let the carbs/sugars in fruit keep you from eating your apples and strawberries.

I just put some beets in the oven to snack on later and I'm having lentils for dinner tonight with some greens. Tastes pretty good, costs fuck-all and is easy to make, and has tons of fiber that helps remove cholesterol.

Hey good vid. Actually quality youtuber. Didnt watch it all yet but wanted to let you know that you are doing a good job.
>>
I've been looking into veganism and it seems that although we can eat meat, it's not really our biological predisposition. Our dentition leans more on the side of herbivores, our metabolic byproducts seem to indicate herbivorous behavior (like alkaline urine), and we get atherosclerosis unlike purely carnivorous animals. Aside from that it's more environmentally-friendly and 'ethical' if that's what you care about.

I'm still eating meat atm since it's the easiest way to get protein, mainly because eating a shit ton of non-meat makes it annoying to get the protein you need. However, I may consider switching over.
