Anyone ever critique your form at the gym?

Ultimately he had good intentions I guess, but it was a bit annoying him coming up to me in front of other people to try and act as if I was low bar squatting wrong.

Today some chick came over while I was OHPing, introduced herself and told me I should do seated military press because standing will cause back issues.I don't think she really knew what she was talking about,no one ever told me there is anything wrong with OHP or my form

nobody offers me advice anymore, but they used to when i started lifting. i know for a fact i regularly use shit form when it doesn't really matter.

the solution to people giving you unsolicited attention is to get bigger

Dude once tried to explain me the leg drive during bench press when I started out, and when I asked him to show, his ass got all up in the air when he benched. Top kekd.

I hate it when PTs think they know everything just because "i was a bodybuilder once." Well good for you, you still look like shit and I'm still making gains every time I come back. Why are so many PTs big headed assholes who think they know everything about fitness?

If I remember correctly, it has to do with your shoulder tension and movement. Pulling a lot of weight and putting your shoulders in the position at the bottom of the pull, puts a lot of strain on your rotator cuffs.
>>
>>36886001
two people at my gym today told me that when I squat my knees should be behind my toes. I find that retarded and impossible to do when I'm atg-ing with actual weight on my back. is it just a meme? one of the guys literally couldn't even squat right without any weight on his back. sounds like the kind of shit they teach you in a "fitness" class. or were they right?

also why would anyone ever want to use a smith machine? I used it today because someone was hogging the only squat rack and I wanted to finish and leave. it was fucking horrible.

Fuck. I do RDL's all the time, I guaran-damn-tee I could've stepped in and helped mousey man get his form unfucked, but I didn't want to interfere or undermine his trainer (even if he was shit). Especially when I'm still just a novice myself.

No. But I've stopped a few guys that otherwise would have hurt themselves, because they didn't know that they didn't know what they were doing. Most of them just plain didn't have the flexibility to do squats properly and would have sooner or later hurt themselves. I tell them to do flexibility work for a month or so then come back and do squats when they aren't tight like bungee cords all the time.

Take it from slavs and gooks, this is the natural way to atg.
Your knees go past your toes all the time too.
Hell, I sprained both of my ankles recently and got to experience how awkward a lot of basic shit can be if you don't have that range of motion.
Speaking of which, that stretch in your pic helped a lot with that, except I would put one foot in front of the other and gradually bring the leading foot further back and keep trying to touch the knee to the wall.
>>
>>36891988
I would like to know this. Benefits and hindrances of seated ohp and standing ohp. Is one better than the other?
>>
>>36888613
Even the tracking in line with toes thing is just used as a cue to engage the quads properly.it shouldn't be a form critique
>>
>>36892709
It's really just a matter of compound versus isolation.
>>
>>36892709

Seated puts more stress on your bottom vertebrae, since the weight gets supported by your arse rather than going down through your legs.

Other than that, there's not a lot of difference. most people can do slightly more seated but that's largely due to starting at the top and most seated OHP setups having some lean to the bench.

except thats completely true.
only powerlifters should arch their back to reduce ROM and increase their leverage and thus increase their total poundage.
Someone who cares about functional strength and hypertrophy should never arch his back more than slightly since there are no rules he has to exploit as he would in a powerlifting comp.
>>
>>36892759

>>36892814
How much stress is it really? When I do seated OHPs I don't feel any stress on the lower back at all.

It puts your humerus into dislocation range and is hard on your rotator cuffs. One bad rep in that position and it's goodbye shoulder ligaments. A bailout or failure off the front of the delts and you'll drop the bar instead of buying tickets to snap city.

>>36886239
They're both valid movements m8, pendlay is more of a power movement and has better postural implications, bents build more mass but hit higher up your back due to the difference in center of gravity.

>>36886478
For most people, your knees should track on your toes more or less while doing a back squat.
Generally, widening your stance and using oly shoes can help but if you have very long upper leg proportion you're better off doing front squats. I have to do all three because diddly doo lanklerino.
