If the weight is moving away from your center mass, it's a push.
If the weight is moving towards your center mass, it's a pull.
Example: During the OHP, Johnny pushes the weight away from his center mass.
Example: During the deadlift, Johnny pulls the weight towards his center mass.

OP asked which word of the English language to use to describe the deadlift. Pull is definitely the word that fits due to common sense and the fact that the same rule applies to every single other lift.
