I'm having an issue where I can seemingly get to atg easily if I'm doing goblet squats or ones without weight (still letting my back round essentially), but once I add the element of holding the bar on my back it gets way harder to go down further.

What might be keeping me from going down further when the bar is on my back? I assumed it wasn't an issue of ankle flexibility if I can do a third world squat with relative ease (albeit with my back rounding), but in reality, is it?

honestly thinking about running a cube method type program mang. am i retarded?

i'm going to double the frequency (but keep roughly the original weekly volume). i know cube is super unfashionable, but it makes a lot of sense to me as an intermediate lifter who wants to put on a lot of muscle to jump a weight class. the focus on hypertrophy and assistance makes it seem like a perfect offseason routine. anybody have experience or opinions?

He doesn't spend that much time in the gym iirc, maybe he can answer that

kek, now you're just being silly. temperament is entirely learnable. just because your natural tendency is to be a hyperactive asshole or fearful mouse in the gym doesn't mean you can't learn to train and manage your training with a level head and controlled, productive aggression.

Bodorio isn't the only strong proponent of sheiko either. Marcel and Buda started talking about it far before him, Isley FINALLY saw some actual gains on it. Joe, despite his unfortunate tendencies made decent gains and even fucking Norsie made a good squat PR and a ton of bench (technique) progress before he crashed.

actually, no memes here, here's how I see it

sheiko style programs really are the best thing you can get for training when you're intermediate / late intermediate / and especially advanced.

They really are.

BUT they are like an extremely precise power tool. You absolutely need a fundamental understanding of how it works, and how to utilize it to its full potential to make it work for you. In practice this is really about having a good understanding of training principles, and most importantly having a good coach over you to help you.

If you don't have everything figured out, its not going to be fun and you're not going to enjoy it, and then you might not make progress on it.

When it all comes down to practical implementation, there really is no way to know if a program is good for you until you try it. for some people (like me) the psycological factors involved make that "scientifically perfect" approach to training (not saying a written program is scientifically perfect - real time coaching is what i'm referring to) sometimes just doesn't work.

Marcel (RIP) had similar feelings towards sheiko. If i paraphrase him best i can, "I truly believe that training style [sheiko-esk] is the best method, but I've found I have to do other things."

I'm in the same boat. I really believe that sheiko (modified to fit your ability) is the best approach to training, but I also firmly believe that not every one can proceed that way, and you absolutely have to try things out and see how you feel.

When I squat if it seems like my feet always tend to want to move further outward (Like from a 30 degree angle closer to a 45 degree angle), should I just initially place my feet in that 45 degree angle? Or is that my body correcting for some imbalance that I need to fix elsewhere?

Its almost impossible to compare across different eras due to the rules and equipment differences, but its hard to argue that Ed Coan wasn't the most dominant of all time. When you're causing most of your competition to go up or down a class just to avoid competing head to head... you're a monster of the sport. Ain't many lifters who can claim that.

I don't doubt that ed coan was a good lifter, but what i don't understand why he kept up with the drug use. He was so much better than every one else that he could have used nothing and still been untouchable.

I've got a bench meet in 5 and a half weeks. I'm thinking about doing smolov jr either for 4 weeks instead of 3.

That or doing only 3 workouts a week, so monday, wednesday and friday for example (the saturday workout moves to next monday). This allows me to run the program for 4 weeks.

What do?
>>
>>36840774

Have you done anything similar to Smolov Jr in the past?

Because five weeks out from a meet is not generally the time to be fucking with brand new stuff.
>>
>>36840791
No I havent. I've been doing some 5x5 stuff the last few years. Last 1.5 year I did the Texas method. About 6 months ago I injured my lower back so I went back to 5x5 with light squatting and rehab stuff. Last month or so I've been doing a bench dominant program. (cluster sets, pin presses, board presses, etc.)
>>
Fuck yes. Hit 152.5, just 2.5 less than my pr. Super fast, and I didn't look like Isley doing it. And really, that's a better metric for strength gains than any weight difference.

>>36840637
There is no greater competition than your former self.

Yeah, sure. I don't like the fact he was using drugs in a tested fed. But there were some suspect things going on with the last and final ban.

I'm all for strong people going all mutant and roiding to th gills. Means I get to see some freaky shit. But do it outside of the ipf.

Not really the best sport to be comparing powerlifting too. From beer drinking to blood doping, the Tdf has seen it all. few people can even do a grand tour without peds. There's a reason why there is only three of them left.

Cycling is a history of ped improvement.

Also, he was so damn dominant in a field full of ped users that it literally means nothing that he wasn't clean. You'd probably have to go back 10 or 15 places to find a clean person to medal.
>>
>>36840935
Test/e ratio was supposed to be whack. But there was no chain of custody, and the person doing the testing was the coach of the guy who came second, the bloke who followed coan around previous to the test, and who took custody of the sample was the second place dudes brother.

Also shit like making coan go to.. Sweden?.. For an appeal on ban decision and then telling him

>>36840774
I just finished a 3 week cycle of smolov jr a week ago and I'll tell you what I learned. Always warm up your rotator cuff prior to starting and afterwards do face pulls/band pull aparts. This is very volume heavy (120+ reps/week), so if you aren't getting proper rest/fuel, then this program will probably be hell for you. Closest I've come to overtraining was when doing this. When I started, I added 1 extra day in the week where I just did bench and accessories to get the full 4 days a week in.
It raised my max from 245x2 (260x1 estimated) to 295x1. I think the best part about the program is all the form practice you get; I've never had better bench form before smolov jr. I don't see why you couldn't do it 4 weeks instead of 3, just make sure you're getting enough rest and you should be alright. I'm definitely doing another cycle after I finish a cycle of c6w.
>>
>>36840963
>Also, he was so damn dominant in a field full of ped users that it literally means nothing that he wasn't clean. You'd probably have to go back 10 or 15 places to find a clean person to medal.
Nah. This has been exaggerated in absurdum. There were even people who believed that drugs didnt do anything back then, the way we look at most meme-supplements now.

We have grown up during the 90s and 00s, so we know that drugs work, but back then they didnt have that knowledge to the same extent.
>>
>>36841117
Cool, sounds interesting.

At the moment I literally just do a sequence of high volume, pretty high volume but a little less and then high intensity for bench.

I originally planned doing it for 3 times a week, but to be honest I just go whenever I feel like it and it's probably something like 3.5 times a week at the moment.

I definitely gained a lot of mass, stretch marks all over and also the form practice was so damn nice.

Before I started I did a triple at 120 unpaused, this week I will try one at 130, paused. Did 127,5 paused last week.
>>
>>36841201

Opinions on building size and strength on 5/3/1 BBB

I have been lifting for about 3 years, finally sorted my diet out and am going to bulk to 110 kg currently 95kg 6ft. My plan is to pack on some strength and finally get my bench to a respectable lift. I have long arms and my presses have always suffered compared to my squats and DL.

In the last two months i have managed to get my squat from 140kg with bad form for 1 to 140kg for 10 clean reps. I had about 6 months of shit training and lost some gains.
>>
So, lads if I'm deadlifting and I feel a crack and sharp pain Midway but after like 30 mins it transfers into some kind of pain/tingling sensation in my upper glute Is it a good idea to deadlift two days after that?

Excuse me are you implying anyone other than God can judge depth? I'll have you know he received 3 white lights and you need to just butt out sir. You're probably just jealous you aren't as strong as him #fuckoffhaters .
I don't know why you are arguing with me as I defend you. Steroids are here to stay and there is literally nothing wrong with injecting life endangering substances to post videos on Facebook of you lifting something with gradually slightly larger weights on each side.
