Been experimenting with pic related routine and loving it. Pull up bar routines are GOAT ab workouts.

1 whole wheat waffle w/ light syrup, 1 granola bar

for lunch
2 protein bars (total of 40g protein)

usually snack on one more granola bar during work.

dinner:
either chicken and rice, an egg, or a kale salad with chicken in it. pork chops once in a while.


i also run 1.75 miles every day

Sounds pretty decent. It all comes down to body fat in the end, man. With a much shittier diet and work-out than you, I used to have small but quite chiseled abs. Of course, I was a 6% body fat skelly back then.

After years of lurking, I have developed a distended "sitting belly". There's not really much fat to pinch (at least not more than when I had a slim waist), but any abs exercises (crunches, sit ups, even planks) make the distension worse. To add insult to injury: My abs have become really weak.

Vacuums have somehow become impossible, too. I can't "pull in" anymore.
Only thing working seems to be the supine leg lowering test thing, but I feel it in my hernias too much to do it regularly.

Any ideas?

Are you absolutely sure? That's the opposite of what should be happening. Regardless, if your abs are so weak you can't even slightly do a stomach vacuum, you absolutely need to train them.

Google stretches for your hip flexors and quads and do them every single day. Something like 5 sets of 45 second holds. It's working for me, though my posture is still not perfect it's a million times better than it was.

Push press alone is enough to develop big and blocky abs. And strong as fuck shoulders.

Only ab exercises worth doing are vacuums. Outside of that just do squats and deads and shit

Ab Wheel Rollouts. Literally all you need. 4x12 post workout along with squats and deadlifting. None of this bullshit 5 part hour long ab routines.

Can you squat 405+?
I'm stalling on 375 cause my abs are weak, but can deadlift 485 cause my erectors/traps are strong. Don't fall for the you don't need to train abs meme. They are a muscle too, so train them 2x a week.

I do weighted decline sit ups, weighted side bends, ab wheel, and stomach vacuums.

You go as low as you can before your lower back caves in. The stronger your core gets the farther you can go/switch to standing rollouts, etc.
