The funniest thing ever is when you see this massive upper body guy, who has chicken legs and has never heard of calf raises or squats.

Anyways, I know one of these guys who acts like he is so strong, but he is unproportionaly strong. He has a great bench (we were doing 5 sets of 10 reps, he was doing 150-155 on his last set or so), I was doing 95 5×10 because my upper body is tired and I was not feeling it today (monday). A guy asked him for workout advice for core and he says he doesn't even work his core, like wth. He has a big chest and arms, everything else is not impressive.

When we were doing squats, he was looking over at me and my friends acting like we were freaks because we could squat over 100 pounds more than 10 times, lol. He was doing 95 pounds 5 X 10 just like us but he was stuggling. He wasn't doing ATG squats and his form was not the best. Then, I do 5 ×10 130 and my friends do 165 5 ×10 (we could do a lot more weight if jt were 3 or 5 reps, need light weight for high sets and reps).

BTW why do so many people love working their upper bodies out only and love benching so much? I hate benching and think it is an overrated workout, someone who can squat or deadlift a lot is more impressive to me. I love squatting and deadlifting, but hate benching so much.

You can hate benching all you want, but at the end of the day, it is a test of strength in the same vein as squats and deadlifts...although it seems to get a lot more attention than the other two.
Bench is by far the hardest to progress on for me, but also offers the greatest feeling when I hit milestones.

To answer your question
People work on their upper bodies because that is what makes you look imposing, and look good when you are naked/ with your shirt off. And that is why most people exercise in the first place....and then there is /fit/

I'm 5'10, ~15% body fat, I can bang out 225 for reps (5x5 for example). Yesterday I did 235 3x5, and then 5 more reps stepping up by 10 each time (after doing 185 1x5 and 135 1x8).
