At what weight did everyone change from double overhand to mixed grip on their dead lifts? Or did you never use overhand in the first place?

Do you do all of your sets with one type of grip or do you mix and match?

Also what's your favourite grip strength exercise?
>>
Both first.

Only overhand at 418

DL
>>
I only do mixed grip if I have to

For example if my grip was slipping during my 4th rep, I'll switch to mixed for the 5th.

I do Snatch Grip deadlifts -- they're great for grip strength and other shit
>>
>>36802526
Hookgrip
>>
Straps. Haven't tested what I can do double overhand, but 4plate is easy enough.
>>
I do overhand til about 130kg then switch to mixed
>>
>>36802526
i can't get the best alternate grip form, it's harder for me to lift with it.
>>
>>36802805
it hurts my hands
>>
>>36802526
It was mixed grip, but then some Faggot posted a compilation of bicep tears while using it and now I'm paranoid.
>>
>>36802526
I double overhand my warmup sets up to 4plate for 1 as a grip strengthening exercise, then switch to straps for my working set.
>>
conventional when warming up and when it's too heavy for conventional i swap to hook grip. there is no reason to use anything but conventional when you have a choice.
>>
>>36802981
But if u mix grip and tear ur bicep it will hurt more
>>
>>36802981
You're doing it wrong
>>
>>36802984
you only tear your bicep when your slightly curl with that hand
>>
Watch George Leeman and his ex girlfriend's video about hook grip. They explain pretty well how to do it without pain.

Then never worry about mixed grip again.
>>
>>36803111
This. Your thumb is supposed to hurt, not your whole hand.
>>
>>36803190
but my thumbs hurt a lot...

I'll try hook grip for my next session, 3x5 at 126kg on Monday. RIP thumbs
>>
I stop using overhand after I get over 225lbs. I use mixed to pull everything up to my heaviest set which is at 475 generally(I've been on cut). Anyone ever tried single arm dead lifts for grip and forearm training? Thinking about trying it
>>
>>36803204
I don't know the video >>36803172 is talking about. Maybe it has some additional tips? Haven't found it, yet, though.
>>
>>36803204
Try taping your thumbs maybe?
>>
>>36802526
Weakling here.
My double overhand grip begins to fail at 100 kg. I can do 1x120 double overhand but no more. With fat gripz I can barely do 1x70kg.
>>
>>36803143
I know, but the small chance of fucking my shit up by accident after seeing those vids is fucking with me.
>>
>>36803272

I was like you some months ago, I got the S and T captains of crush. After every workout I work my hands really hard with them. Now I can do 120 kg with overhand grip and 130 kg with mixed grip fairly easily. You just have to find something to train your grip with and do it a lot. Having small hands suck.
>>
>>36803227
>I stop using overhand after I get over 225lbs
pussy
>>
>>36803344
I can mixed grip deadlift atleast 180 kg though.
>>
The best way to train grip strength for deadlifts is to hold onto the last rep of each set for like 8-10 seconds. If you're doing a program with very low deadlift frequency/volume like SS, just take the weight down to about 80-90% of your working set, pull it and hold it as long as possible.

Start doing that and your deadlift grip will improve greatly in as little as 2-3 weeks

Watch this video, entitled "Bicep Tear Compilation"

Notice that every single person doing deadlifts in this video tears their bicep while doing a mixed grip deadlift. The bicep that tears is ALWAYS on the underhand grip arm. Sure, you may be able to lift 10 or 20 pounds more using mixed grip, but is it worth running the risk of snapping your shit? I don't think so. Ever since seeing this vid I've sworn off mixed grip for life.
>>
>>36803172
>>36803230

Well shit guys, not surprising, but it looks like that video has been taken down.
>>
>>36803980
Yup its probably ego lifting which is the cause for most injuries when lifting.
>>
>>36802526
I never use mix grip, always overhand. When it gets too heavy i just use straps. Went from being able to do 80 kg overhand to 170 kg x 5 overhand, so pretty decent progression
>>
>>36803980
Literally cringing watching this shit
>>
>>36802999
>>36803111
the double trips confirm you ain't gon make it anon
>sorry /fit/ failed you
>>
only double overhand so far since my grip strenght is way ahead of my back/leg strenght. Ex rock climber..

Checked
>>
>>36802526
I train with double overhand. Chalk if needed. I only use mixed grip on my one rep max.
>>
>>36805384
strength* sorry
>>
>>36803980
holy shit what happened in that gif
>>
>>36805542
Fails the lift, the bar hits the plates stacked behind him on the platform, and it bounces back into his spine. He is in a wheelchair now.
>>
>>36805542
Crossfitter doing snatch, leaving plates on the platform, using too much weight and paralyzing himself.
>>
>>36805568
>>36805585

As someone who wants to start Oly training, how do I avoid this while still being able to test PRs?
>>
>>36805632
Don't leave plates stacked up on the platform behind you.
>>
>>36805632
Don't ego lift, have your platform clear and learn how to bail a snatch properly
>>
switched to mixed around 275, i could feel the bar slipping away by the 3rd rep when i was doing it double the first time
>>
>>36802526
Having some trouble with my dlift grip.

Since I started test, my strength has gone through the roof but my grip strength and forearms can't keep up. Already gained an inch on my forearms in 3 weeks, but now I have some really sharp pain in the middle of both my forearms

what do
>>
I do thumbless grip usually until I go for PRs

I-is there something wrong with it?
>>
>>36806316
how much weight are we talking? That sounds extremely difficult.
>>
Double overhand, 360lbs x3. 165 lbs

If my hands can't support it with double overhand then I'll train them until they can. I'm just not interested in the extra gains from alternate.
>>
>>36806331
My last PR was 315
Usually I can go 275 thumbless
>>
>>36802526
I have a 250kg pull and haven't used DOH with any consistency since I was like a 3plate puller. I also do no grip strength exercises.

Deadlifting builds deadlift grip, srsly
>>
>>36802526

whats an impressive amount to DL for a grill?
>>
>>36806608
depends on bw
>>
>>36806624
say 70kg
>>
Alternate for pulling more
Double Overhand for working forearms
>>
>>36802999
>tearing my bicep pulling 315

nah
>>
>>36806628
id be genuinely impressed with 120kg or so
>>
>>36803204
>126kg

Your thumbs are fine.
>>
>>36806681
hah sweet! is that because thats how much you lift?
>>
>>36806733
>is that because thats how much you lift
lol no
outside of pl gym i have seen like 1 girl total pull over 100kg, so 120kg would make me bat an eye

>>36806316

Yes. Your thumbs are supposed to help keeping the bar from rolling off your hands.

However, it's not the end of the world if you're doing mixed grip.

There's lots of info on this here http://fitsticky.com/articles/deadlift-megathread (pic related)

REEEEEEEEEEEEEERR

STOP POSTING THIS SHIT YOU FUCKING MALE.

YOU'RE NOT HELPING THE FUCKING BOARD BY MAKING THESE OBNOXIOUS FUCKING POSTS JUST TRYING TO GET FUCKING ATTENTION. YOU FUCKING ATTENTION SEEKING PIECE OF FUCKING SHIT. FOR FUCKS DUKE JUST GET OF OUR BOARD.

THIS ISN'T FUCKING TUMBLR, NORMIES AREN'T FUCKING WELCOME. FOR FUCKS SAKE. REEEEEEEEEE.
>>
>>36807122
But nowhere written there is anything that thumbless grip is dangerous
>>
>>36807187

It's not really "dangerous" for the deadlift. The worse that could happen is the bar slips off your hands and drops on the floor.
>>
>>36802526
interesting... i always used mixed grip
>>
>>36807181
>>36807187
Just ignore it. Adding filters helps.
>>
>>36807187
I don't think it's dangerous. I just think it makes the lift unnecessarily difficult. I don't understand why you'd want to do it in the first place.
>>
Been doing 3plate for sets of 8-10 double overhand and no belt. Go for speed and athleticism.

>tfw actually want to go heavier, use a belt and mixed grip
>tfw shit knee and don't wanna tear my bicep
>tfw pussymode engage
>>
>>36807872
You won't tear your biceps. There's literally no risk unless you're actively try to curl the weight.
