>b-but the bar can slip and fall on you

been lifting for 7 years with 0 accidents like that . the so called suicide grip by beta plebs is the best for you wrist and it actually feels better on the chest

I've always done this. Didn't know it was called suicide grip.
>>

>been lifting for 7 years with 0 accidents like that.

Survivorship bias

Ask all of the people who have been rushed to the hospital after the bar falling how they lifted for X years without an accident.

>the so called suicide grip by beta plebs is the best for you wrist and it actually feels better on the chest

Factually incorrect.

If your wrist is hurting with a thumb over grip, it means you have the bar incorrectly set.

Your form is fucked up to begin with, which is why you are using the suicide grip.

It also is not allowed in any powerlifting competition because it is universally recognized as dangerous and proven to give no benefits.

But it's your life and I know you can't bench much more than two plates, so do whatever the fuck you wanna do

How are you supposed to grip it then?

Literally never seen another way to grip bench.

Also that russian guy doesn't "look" big enough for 400 pounds.
>>
>>36782070
88 pound plates? Why?
>>
>>36781994

I knew you were going to say at least 4 plates when I posted that.

I have spotted ~20 or so guys over the years with suicide grip. Absolutely none of them used a full range of motion.

People that use this grip are so wrapped up in ego lifting and broscience that there is no way they can make it to 4 plates with good form.
>>
>>36781860
i just set up with suicide grip, then wrap my thumbs around when i'm about to start.

puts the bar in the right position and there's no chance of you snapping your fucking neck
>>

No

When someone refers to plates, they mean per side.

4 plate bench/squat/dead = 4 plates each side = 405lbs

I been using suicide grip for awhile now. Not because it's cool or "alpha". And I do full reps too. I just have this pain in my thumb joint (MP joint) when I have it over the bar. I have to do the same for seated rows, lat pulls, etc.
>>
>>36782304

Why would you not count the bar weight?

It's counted in every powerlifting and olympic lifting competition.
>>
>>36782324
It might still crack your sternum if you drop it in the wrong spot though, seeing as your touch point has to be over the safeties.

What part of that post is logical? I'm not saying any of it is wrong but which part of it demonstrates the use of logic, let alone strong logic? Keeping in mind that logic isn't the same thing as simply knowing something. Why did you even feel the need to make this post at all, even if it was a particularly logical post? Why did you write it the way you did? It wasn't particularly funny but at the same time I can't think of any other reason to make that particular star wars reference than to be humorous. Would you just randomly say this if you overheard this conversation happening irl? You have time to think about what you're writing before you post but it seems like you didn't even bother to do that. Don't waste people's time by posting worthless comments, its of no benefit to anyone including yourself and actually serves as a minor detriment in various ways.

Closed grip brings too much deltoid into any press and too much bicep into back work. Best physiques I've ever seen use suicide grip on everything.

"When you take a regular grip, your hands turn in slightly. This automatically forces you into an internal shoulder rotation position, meaning that the "natural" path you take when lowering the bar will have your elbows pointed outward/flared out.

This puts stress on the shoulder joint and if you try to tuck the elbows in – despite the natural inclination for the elbows to be out – you create a lot of torque at the elbow joint. So you either increase the stress on the shoulders or the elbows, neither of which is good.

By using a thumbless grip you can easily keep a more neutral hand position, which makes it much more natural to lower the bar while staying tucked. This reduces shoulder stress without increasing torque at the elbows, resulting in a less stressful bench press."

https://www.t-nation.com/training/6-heavy-bench-press-lessons

funny how the retarded broscientists always look better than fuccboi keyboard warriors...
>>
>>36782757
you can still hold the bar the same way you'd suicide but you wrap your thumb around it. then again i have big hands so that's not the case for everyone. never understood the concept of that, just have your fuckin thumb over it instead of behind it.
>>
>>36781860

>>36782757
that's dependent on pronation when gripping, which is incorrect grip. suicide grip is just bulldog grip but with the added benefit of possibly killing yourself.

Hi, anon that has actually had some proper education on kinesiology and anatomy.

do this for me:

take out your dad's dick.
grip the shaft tightly in the center of your palm, using the "thumbless grip".
take a minute to be conscious, highly aware of the position of your elbow and shoulder joints.
(try and be relaxed and natural while holding your dad's dick).
Now carefully, carefully and slowly, rotate your thumb away from teh side of the index finger and curl it around the dick until it's in the "normal grip" position.

Notice exactly how much your elbow and shoulder joints had to pronate in order to achieve this
>exactly zero

now take your trip off and never post here again

I wasn't really defending the trip but figured the other anon was missing the point of the post. I'm interested in hearing both sides because I use suicide grip myself to avoid thumb joint pain.

Notice how he has a wide grip and a good arch in his upper back. He also has good lats. Thus a wide grip bench press with an arch is needed to develop your lats.

>>36783000
The difference is probably miniscule at most but if you have the thumb around the bar you won't risk dropping the bar on yourself.

Keeping in mind that autism isn't the same thing as simply sperging out. Why did you even feel the need to make this post at all, even if it was a particularly autistic post? Why did you write it the way you did? It wasn't particularly funny but at the same time I can't think of any other reason to make that particular anonymous poster reference than to be humorous.

With or without spotter? A guy I knew visited his father's house, and found him dead on the fucking bench. Be careful, Anons.

>people bench with clips
>people bench with suicide grip

....why? Seriously? Why put yourself in danger like that?
>>
>>36793621

I got bitched out once for squatting and benching w/o clips by a staffer at the Y. The gym is p.great but it's run by people that are only vaguely athletic
>my god the 350lb hippo at the front desk
>fit families stream in and out all day
>she knows

I had to explain to the dude why someone might WANT the plates to fall off the bar in an emergency, he had this look like a stunned sheep, I'm not sure he understood even after I explained.
>>
>>36781860

I have a deformed right hand lobster claw thing, therefore all my benches are half suicide grip because I'd have to turn my right hand sideways to fit the bar in my grip, and it's too heavy anyways.

The people who taught me how to lift told me to place my palms a thumbs distance away from the start of the bar grip.
Is this good advice?
>>
A great deal many more people using suicide grip drop the bar, especially during struggling reps where the weight is high.

Its a risk that just isn't worth it for the potentially enormous consequences that can arise for the relatively small payoff. The world record bench press holders all use a normal grip and they hit numbers you can never hope to reach.

All it takes is one drop.
>>
>>36781971
Hand dexterity/grip strength. - It's the only benefit.
there was a power lifter who i used to train Jiujitsu with and that mother fucker could grip a wrist like that - you just had to tap, he did everything suicide/monkey grip.
That grip was fucking terrifying.

I don't know why nobody told you to just man up and ask for a spotter.

When I first got my bench to decent weights, asking people to spot me was a great conversation starter. Guys would usually ask me how long I'd been lifting for and such things.

>hey man can I get a spot? I'm going for 5 reps

That's all it takes.
>>
>>36786105
so both his thumbs just snapped backwards and caused him to loose the bar?

get a grip

>been lifting for 7 years with 0 accidents like that
there won't be numerous accidents like that. there will be 1 accident like that. after that 1 accident, you will either stop existing, left paralysed, or best case scenario that you are able to lift again, come to your senses and stop benching like a neanderthal.
>>
>>36796912

In judo and jujitsu you use that grip so you don't get your thumb broken off trapped under a gi collar, also sneaky cheeky breekis will peel your thumb and snap it when the judges can't see.
>>
>>36782670
Just lift in a powerack, if you know some basic knowledge on it and aren't reckless all the time, you'll be safe.

Not leaving candles burning is based on the exceptions where the house burnt down, not the rule of thumb most people using said light source with no ill effects.

Do you understand how safety issues work? I don't think you do.

You sure about that buddy?...
>>
>>36782004
Dude just do it man, seriously benching is my main workout at my personal gym and I only ever fucked up once in which I just roll the bar off me.

If you're really afraid, start small and slowly build yourself up. That's all it takes.

"One plate" means one on each end of the bar.

So he is correct. Each "plate" is actually 2x20kgs.
