I want your guys' opinions on which squat is better. I know that front squats can take pressure off of your back, but are they better in any other way?
>>
>>36778911
they both are good
>>
>>36778973
This.
I do front followed immediately by back.
The same weight feels so much lighter and I can put a lot more on my back squats.
>>
I like front squats. Idk why, I just like them better
>>
> I know that front squats can take pressure off of your back
How do you know that?
Why would frontsquats take pressure of your back? The levers are even longer.

Highbar backsquat is best and should be the way you squat 80% of the time. Front, zercher, overhead, or any other squat variation should be really more of an assistance movement.
With that said I do love me some front squats to build up my abs.
>>
>>36778911
Low bar + front squat master race.

Front squats are great, but you shouldn't do them in place of back squats.
>>
how do i do front squat when my biceps are too big get a proper grip?
>>
i'd do the front squat, but i can't hold the bar correctly. i suffocate myself
>>
>>36779160
Widen your grip so that your forearms lay outside your biceps. Rotate your elbows in and up. You might only get a few fingers under the bar, but that's OK.

For anyone who has shitty wrist flexibility you can do front squats like this while you are working on stretching and having alpha level wrist flexibility so you can front squat like a real man.
>>
>>36779264
no, cause then the bar sits uneven on shoulders and you end up with scoliosis
>>
>>36779264
Never liked this.
It feels unbalanced and my hands press against my windpipe.
Its not much but when you're maxing out every breath you take is needed.
>>
>>36779264
Don't do this

If the bar is uneven then your elbows are uneven. Elbows high faggot!
>>36779294

Don't put your hands on your throat? Like I don't even know what you are doing that is forcing your hands into your throat but you are doing something very wrong.
>>
>>36779264
I swear to god the coaches when I was high school told us to front squat like this
>>
>>36779340
>If the bar is uneven then your elbows are uneven. Elbows high faggot!

with cross grip one shoulder will always be higher than the other, you fucking retard
>>
>>36779343
It's not "wrong" per se. Just not optimal if you have the flexibility. Large bodybuilders and powerlifters pretty much have to front squat this way.
>>
>>36779357
I mean, I'm not going to tell this guy he's doing it wrong.

Go get a level and put it on your shoulders in the front squat position. Put your elbows above the level/bar slightly AT THE SAME EVEN HEIGHT.

Yeah, I think a lot of that's just being world record weight though.

Keep your torso upright. If you're falling forward your body is leaning forward

this is how i do it. it gets tricking when the bar starts to roll down your arms, usually wrap my index fingers around the bar to hold it in place, def a lift you want to use clips for.

Elbows are not level nor are they even with/slightly higher than the bar.
THIS IS NOT HOW TO FRONT SQUAT WITH CROSSED ARMS.
>>
>>36779390
check your ego at the door and use weight you can handle. Keep your chest and elbows UP.
>>
Front squats are less stressful for your shoulders and biceps than normal squats, and require less flexibility. Altough you can't use as much weight.

Requires less weight to get the same effect so overall there's less compression on spine and joints

What do you mean? Front squats are less stressful for the biceps/shoulders than low bar squats.

not true at all. you can get a really heavy front squat, it just takes time. Like anything else.

>OK, I'm sure the guy who has the heaviest front squat ever recorded will take your advice.
You are so right anon. It couldn't possibly be the squat suit, belt, knee wraps, and lets not forget all the drugs that are making up for his bad form and allowing him to struggle through this movement.
>>
Depends on your goals.

Athletic performance and horizontal movement = front squat (my priority squat)
Body building/oly lifying = high bar
Powerlifting = low bar

I only do front squat. In no situation in life do you ever put weight on your back. Nothing wrong with it but being able to back squat 315x5 at 170lbs doesn't put as much of a marginal difference in my athletic performance as prioritizing the 2/3rd ROM (hamstrings parallel) front squat (ideal for sprinting and horizontal movement). I say 2/3rd ROM front squat because Atg has zero use outside of competitive oly weight lifting.
>>
>>36779506
can't use AS much weight. You will not be able to front squat more than you back squat due to the leverages being worse in a front squat.
>>
>>36779514
Only a belt and SBD knee sleeves. You mad?
>>
>>36779536
I'd say Oly lifters do both regularly.
>>
>>36779544
oh yeah, missed that bit
>>
>>36779032
not OP, but I had lower back issues which would act up during back squats, so I switched to front squats and haven't had any lower back pain since
>>

Not true if you do olympic wl
>>

this. gotta do a lot of fronts for Oly
>>
>hi bar
>low bar
Am I misunderstanding something here?
There is one spot on my back where the bar can rest comfortably, about level with shoulders on the lower traps.
How the hell do you even "low bar" squat when the bar doesn't rest anywhere?
And how does "low bar" make it easier anyway?
>>
>>36779871
Just watch literally any video explaining the lowbar squat.
>>
>>36779871
it rests on your rear delts. If you squeeze your shoulderblades together, it will create a shelf that you can rest the bar on.
>>
I'd say 90% of my training volume is front squat. I'll do 50% of my max for warmup using back squat, and maybe directly train backs squat once every six weeks. Ironically, significantly decreasing backsquat volume has increased my back squat. I have fewer injuries doing front squats and can push harder because exhaustion won't cause me to squatmorning the bar.
>>
>>36779032

Just look at OP's pic. There is way less torque on your back during front squats.
>>
>>36780066
>squatmorning the bar.
I have this way too often with both hi and lowbar. And it hurts my lower back.
Tomorrow its gonna be fs only.
>>
>>36780095
it requires more upper back strenght though
>>
>front squats are easier on the back
Bull fucking shit, every time I do them it feels like one of the vertebrae are about to slingshot out of my spine and embed itself in the wall, it hurts like shit
>>
>>36780617
that's cause you have shit form, retard

I squat like this, no back pain, can squat 1pl8 max, but with maymay back squat® I can lift 2 plates easily.

>not doing the Jefferson lift

Heh, I pity you imbeciles placing any form of load on your spine. The all encompassing Jefferson Lift brings the benefits of both the squat and the deadlift in one motion. Truly allowing me to unleash my power with the kinetic chain.
>>
>>36782199

The trap bar deadlift is superior for that purpose.
Jefferson lift is the most neckbeard lift of all

i see mixed responses on whether it's okay to replace back squats entirely with front squats. personally i'd rather do front squats all the time instead of back squats
>>

>>
is it normal to get a bruise on your neck bone when doing high squats? how do i avoid this?
>>

You avoid it by not placing the bar on your neck
