I need to take a break from hammering on the classics for a little while and want to work on pumping my back squat numbers, but I'd still like to snatch/clean&jerk/front squat once a week. I did the 6x2 - 6x6 version. Start with squats, and do light snatch and cj work after. You should be squatting 3x/week which actually isn't that different from what you probably do already, but you should probably take 10% off of the rest of your workouts. E.g. if you were due to snatch 80% for a triple, drop down to 70% for a triple. Otherwise, continue roughly the same template as you normally do.

With this in mind, I'm wondering if it is even worth running a Russian squat cycle? I am 5'9, 72 kg and my back squat is 126 kg. My classics are 79/91 kg as I've only been weightlifting for about 7 months, had a coach for maybe 4 of those months.

I know the Russian Squat Cycle is absolutely brutal to complete, so would I still make good progress on my squat with a less intense program? Or maybe just squatting 4x a week rather than 3x like I do currently? I'm not entirely sure who the target audience of the program is... people with at least 2x, 2.5x bodyweight squat maybe? Any more advice would be appreciated.

you're very new

there can still be improvement done to ilya's technique particularly on snatch which his coaches focus on you can see on videos of him lifting they always got something to say after his snatches, almost none on CJ

ilya also takes a big time off after major comps so he needs to focus on technique again, having a coach just tell you what to correct makes it easier, sometimes you don't know what you're doing wrong even when the lift feels good (NOT THAT YOU'D KNOW THIS SINCE U DONT LIFT)

then programming for yourself isn't as good as having a coach program for you, one it takes that off your mind so you don't have to think about what to do next, then you dont have to worry about shit, you just lift the weights and go home after done and trust your coaches. also if you program for yourself most of the time you'll only include lifts you're good at and it will take some time before you realize what you're lacking/what you need more of, by then it'll be too late because all the guys competing against you has cum
