So back in the good old days, almost every bodybuilder did squats and front squats with a wooden block under their heels.

Why was that, and what are the pros/cons?

Why aren't you just riding the seated calf raise machine for calf gains

The only reason for heel raises is calves

Emulates wearing weightlifting shoes, just means u can get bigger range of motion if I'm not mistaken
>>
>>36722712
I believe its the same principle as the weightlifting shoe, which has raised heels. However your heels on a block looks pretty uncomfortable on your feet i guess they just worked through the pain.

Helps if u have poor mobility and puts more emphasis on the tear drops of your quads

>that rounded back

what a DYEL bitch

Is this true?
I have huge (upper) thighs, but my vastus medialis is severely lagging.

Should I do heels elevated squat to bulk up my teardrops, then?

people mostly have lagging VM because the VM mostly helps extended on the end of the ROM. i'm not sure how an elevated heel would help with that though. you can do paused leg extensions as an accessory if you want to build bigger VM

wanna know how I know you just started lifting?
>>

wanna know how I know you squat with a pussy pad and high heels like some fucking woman?

You're a projecting moron?

dyel?

To be fair, it's really bad high bar squat form. Look at Lu, you're supposed to remain as upright as possible.
>>
Elevated heels help you to maintain a more vertical torso. You can have a good range of motion without heels, but +95% of these people can't still maintain as vertical back as with heels.
>>
>>36722712
more quad engagement

>for everyone saying this shit is bad for your knees
no, this depends on the individual, not the exercise. actually if you have weak VMOs and quads this kind of motion is actually helping
maybe not as a maximum effort exercise tho
>>
>>36722731
I really do hope this is bait

>>36722805
yes this is true, focus on slow tempo and control tho
>>
>>36722727
yes and no, means you can go ATG while keeping your torso more upright. Helps with front squats and overhead squats (parts of the clean and snatch ofc)
>>
>>36722712

So..

oly shoes?
>>
>Good old days

In the good old days they used useless belts with uneven support.

In the good old days they did the cross handed grip for front squats, which is retarded.

In the good old days they used thumbless bench grip and terrible shoulder position.

Eternally mirin. Will I EVER achieve such flawless form?
>>
>>36722732
Terrible form, zero upper back tightness
>>

>thinking there is "high bar" or "low bar" squat as opposed to just "The Squat", en exercise for which each person has a personal optimum technique given his limbs length and flexibility
>>
>>36722727
>literally has a nice little rack on his back to rest the bar on
lu is a god
>>
>>36722805
No, it's not true.
PTs have been trying to isolate the VMO for years, to help with knee problems, but it just doesn't seem possible.
>>
>>36723737
Is a completely rounded back part of a persons "personal optimum technique"?
>>
>>36724438
Maybe it is for arnie, he should know what he's doing.
