Seriously /fit why can't you do a 135lb OHP?
>>
I'm trying bro.
>>
Because I cant bench 135
>>
>>36706792
Took me a week of lifting to hit 1pl8 bench
>>
because i cant OHP
>>
But I can.
>>
I can do 205
>>
>>36706805
It took me 6 months. I started at 80 lbs on a machine. My routine was bullshit obviously but I didn't know that at the time and I'd never heard of fit.
>>
>>36706779
I can OHP 225 several times. I was never able to until I started clean and jerking and that skyrocketed my OHP lifts
>>
>>36706785
Why is it difficult for the /fitizens? Is it that there are mostly lanklets here?
>>
I can
>>
>>36706827
Do you see a difference in seated OHPs and standing OHPs?

i want to do 1pl8 OHP and 2pl8 bench. but stalling early
>>
>>36706865
I am having the biggest issue with a 2pl8 bench. Any suggestions /fit?
>>
>>36706824
Helps to have a spotter with free weights vs machine for sure
>>
>>36706828
Because /fit/is mostly newfags. Once most people know what they're doing in the gym, they move on to reddit. The only people who stick around are autists like me
>>
>>36706805
I can push 135 on machine but I struggle with 115 on real bench.. Should I shamelessly bench under or keep pushing

I tried going to reddits fit page. Too many white knights and i hate reddits layout.

It's no fun.
>>

you should ask someone at the gym

>>

Get off the machine keep pushing on the bench.

Youll make it
>>
>>36706779
Because i've had 2 massive shoulder surgeries and have been told multiple times that I'll never lift again. Hit 105 for OHP reps last week so im pretty pumped
>>
>>36706941
Id hate to bother someone who is working out to spot me.

If I ran a gym I'd offer a spot man. Pay per exercise to have someone spot you. 5 bucks per exercise up to 4 sets.
>>
I just did for ten reps today. Don't you put that shit on me

Happened to me yesterday with incline dumbbell presses. My right pec completely failed on my 60lb dumbbell press. I do 80s!
>>
>>36707004

Sorry, I meant should I try and do 135 once just to see if I can do it. Not 8 reps at 135. If reps 7-8 at 100 are a struggle for me I'm pretty sure more than 1-2 at 135 ain't happening yet. I've been increasing by 5 pounds every week or so for a few months now for my sets of 8 on OHP. I like to take it relatively easy on upping weight on my shoulders and only started OHP after lifting for about a year. I've never injured them, but more so than any other joints in my body they're the most likely to get sore in the "uh oh that's not the muscle" sort of way.
>>
>>36706960
Work in with some people at the flat bench. They'll have nothing better to do than spot you until their next set

Broke off a majority of the glenoid (shoulder socket) in 2013, had Vid related done and was able to get back to about 80% function again but then I broke my shoulder a second time and completely trashed everything that had been done in the 1st surgery. They repeated a similar procedure except using an iliac crest bone graft because I had shattered what was left of the coracoid and it was unusable at that point. They also injected me with stem cells and basically just hoped that it would help lol

I've been working out for 1 month, and i got my OHP to 85lbs before I hurt myself and realized my form was completely wrong, putting too much strain on my traps.

Now after a couple weeks with proper form i've worked on it with 65lbs, but i feel like the linear progression i'm looking for isn't coming.

At 6'4'' is this normal, that being a lanklet means I won't be able to lift as heavy?
>>
>>36707095

For certain lifts your height could be a disadvantage. I'm also 6'4 with longer legs and have a bit of a hard time squatting.

The only reason overhead press would be hard is because of the range of motion, your leverages won't be much different than other lifters if your use good form. Keep at it and you'll get 1plateOHP.
>>
>>36706779
i can
>>
I can do 255.
>>
>>36707655

For pretty much every lift that isn't some sort of deadlift, being tall is a leverage disadvantage.

But the main killer for taller lifters is bodyweight. Pound for pound you're always going to be worse than a shorter guy.
>>
>>36706960
You are either stupid or autism. Just fucking asking someone to spot you.
>>
Is 135 x 3 after 3 months good progress?
>>
>>36708076

Yeah i wasn't too clear, i meant Ohp leverages wouldn't suffer too bad compared to say squats.
>>
But I OHP 185, OP. I'm hoping to hit 225 by the end of the year.

IRL, i can count the number of people at my gym that i see strict press more than 135. Most normies get stuck in OHP purgatory between 95 and 115 lbs for what seems like forever.
>>
>>36706779
what? everyone can do it for one rep
>>
Scared of doing a standing OHP. Can do 125lb seated OHP. Why am I so nervous?

Confirmed, I am a normie stuck at 3x5 110 lbs. Just want to get to 135!

Yes. Its good in that you wont sap as much of your strength repping out from a dead start, as the bounce reflex at the bottom of the following reps assists in getting it back up from there on

72.5kg ohp
100kg bench
140x4 kg squat
200kg deadlift

i just barely hit 1/2/3/4 with my shitty bench and i dont consider myself that strong. how can people on fit be so weak? like struggling with 100kg deadlift, 40kg bench and 30kg ohp? have you never eaten or used your body in your entire life?
>>
Holy fucking shit, /fit/ is so pathetically weak.
>>
I can do 150 for 5. No rack so I have the most trouble getting it off the ground.
>>
>>36710483
I was a 300 lbs manlet neet when I started lifting. It took a year just to get strong enough to not have chronic back pain.
>>
3 plate OHP here. Everyone saying it should take X amount of time is wrong. It's different from person to person. Focus on yourself and improve from there.

just man the fuck up dude, also, im not fat.

I'm too lazy to spend a day learning how to power clean. I do like a close grip power snatch up to my chest without dropping under it.

If you need to push press for the first rep then you're not strict pressing.
>>

I'm at 27.5 lb on each side, and I can do that for maybe 3-4 reps.

I had given up on OHP a while back, but I have been trying it again.
Seems like with a good warm up and super strict form, I can do the press without shoulder pains. I am about to 135 right now, repped 115 last time I did the exercise.
