If you do 3 sets of squats 3 times a week, then that's 9 sets of squats a week, with about 48 hours in between each workout to allow protein synthesis to take place. It's excellent for beginners who don't require a lot of volume to grow and who also want to be able to increase the load every workout; pretty much the best thing a beginner can do, if they can go heavy enough and have spent enough time learning proper form.

There's a guy at my gym who looks like an older Mark Rippletits, probably in his 50's who does work outs like this. He'll set up the bar from the deadlift platform which is right next to the power rack in front of the power rack and do heavy sets of deadlift supersetted with heavy sets of back squat. Then finishes it up with heavy sets of ohp. It's really inconvenient if he's there on one of my lower body days but he's usually done with his work out in like 30 minutes all together and he can squat 3 plates with flawless form for reps so he's okay in my book
