From what I've been told these are one of the best exercises for getting a nice back.
Also I have been told that these grips work these parts of the back
Close Grip = Inner Back
Wide Grip = Outer Lats

i'm a manlet and can't reach the outer ones comfortably so i only do inner on t-bar rows
