Ego lifting 1pl8 for reps hurt my back. Now I do half a plate and try to keep my form as tight as possible. Still haven't perfected my form yet.

I was thinking about this recently as I observed some other guys OHPing. How do you guys stance? I strict press 75kg for one and 70kg for 5 on a good day, but I do it with my feet level, as in the picture. Some guys do it with one foot forward and one behind. I tried that, and it felt like a much more stable and comfortable movement. Thoughts?

Pretty sure Jim Wendler uses thumbless for Pressing. It's helped me a bit, too. Pressing isn't the same as benching.

I started a "cut" I guess but I was completely lost and ended up losing 11 pounds in 3 weeks and a fuck ton of strength.

So I decided to just stop drinking and instead keep eating like I normally did and now hopefully i'll shed my bodyfat while gaining strength still slowly. Hopefully.

Not him, but unless you've got fairly small hands the odds of dropping the bar due to suicide grip (at least in a way that wouldn't also have happened with regular grip) is really damned low.

Of course, given some of the things I've tried lifting overhead a barbell is the least of my risks.

Fuck I used to be able to do 40-55kg at most for 5x5, and now after work straining my back I went down to like an average of 30kg or so.

Use a wide grip though, standing and I've never had really that much muscle so I'm surprised I could've gone to 50kg or so.

Not really. I've never felt my grip be an issue, not even once. I have a pretty tight grip from deadlifting/heavy chinups, so meh. I've never come close to feeling like it could be an issue.

I feel with thumbless, I can hold the bar closer in my palm, and push more from the outside of my hand, which I feel lets me use more Tris/chest/shoulder more effectively.

May just be placebo, but it's worked for me. Give it a shot with lower weight and see what you think.

The log is surprisingly awkward (very easy to lose it backwards near lockout or let it drift forward off the initial drive), but nothing I've dealt with is as erratic or just plain unpleasant as trying to 'clean' and press a random rock that someone figured was kind of the right size and shape.

Can you explain this? I've had real trouble with the hip movement in OHP.

The issue is that you want the bar directly above the muscles that are pressing, right? And leaning back allows that the same way that an arched back does for bench press. But how does locking the glutes work and how should I start the movement/

I have a shitty home gym in my tiny little room. I only have a str8 bar and an ez curl with a total of about 140 lb in plates so I can't progress like I'd like to. I can't bench cause no bench or rack. I can squat but not enough to make good gains I think. And I only have gone up to 80 on the squat for 12-15 reps and on the shoulder press for about 10 reps.

Currently I can only deadlift about 105 with good form. I'm in process of losing weight and on the come back from over a year of no exercise so that's expected I guess.
