Just thought I'd share, recently I've been hitting presses pretty hard and moved up to 415 on my bench, started to have some persistent shoulder pains that weren't the good kinds.

One of my friends who is way bigger than me suggested adding pushups to my programming which sounded stupid as fuck but I did it anyways and now my shoulder pain is pretty much totally gone.

I'd recommend doing a shitload of calisthenics on the days you can't make it to the gym.

contrary to fit's general knowledge if you do hundreds of pushups you will build muscle.

Think about it like you get to do corework four days a week and go super heavy on the the lowerbody and explosive lifts two days a week.

There aren't going to be any serious programs with only two days a week so you'll have to frankenstein something yourself.

Well, I take that back, some world class powerlifters/olympians might only lift heavy 2 days a week, but you don't lift world class weights do you?

I've used them a bit, but by no means an expert. Generally what I've been told is that (for a raw lifter) you don't want more than about 10-15% or so of the weight at the top being from the chains. Obviously this can vary a bit based on the lift and the lifter.

Ok, that's what I needed. I'm only wanting them for my speed days, which are generally quite a bit lighter anyway. I have other ways to overload the top of the lift. It's just every time I try and really accelerate through the lift I unwind and loosen up too much.

And I love my speed days. It's perfect for drilling form.

I still haven't figured out squats, despite doing them since more than a year.

Recently I switched my grip to Rippetoe style, elbows far out.
Managed to get an okay triple with it, but my knees hurt from it the day after.
And that was because I probably lost proper bar path and had the weigh way too far infront.

But I have to figure out a more safe way to grip because my elbows / biceps are potentially dieng from what I did before, even though that made my squat way more solid, somehow.

And then I still don't know how to cue knees, how far to sit back, whether or not to worry about glute flexion, etc.

For example, I can push my knees way out and literally sit between them, as I have a pretty wide stance squat - that makes my aductors have a good stretch reflex at the bottom.
But I remember a few reps feeling really slow and weak that way and when I encounter such reps midset, I usually do the next reps different, somehow, without actively pushing knees out.

I also don't know if my stance is best, it's pretty wide.

Etc. etc.

And I feel like with two days a week I will never figure it out properly, because from one session to the other I tend to relearn the pattern again.

As I said, with two days a week I just can't see me getting it down, somehow.

I am also thinking about slow reps, where I really focus and see what I do on each portion of the lift.
Also maybe paused squats, to see what I do in the hole and how I get out the strongest.

The stance thing is also a big question mark, really hard to figure out for any lift.
The moment you change it you will be weaker at it, but might become stronger.
But when you became stronger, is that because of the new stance or because you put work into squatting?

My squat journey taught me that:

1. When I flex my glutes coming up it makes me feel much more stable and able to maintain verticality

2. Knees caving is partly habit and partly muscular weakness, fix the weakness to a degree and cuing becomes easier every time you squat. Best way to fix is by doing lighter weight forcing them out

3. Knees come forward enough to drop you vertically in and out of the hole, no more and no less (this is up to more debate but my coach says this is his opinion on it)

Honestly a lot of stuff about leaning/sitting back was just fixed by the ssb forcing me to lean back and push up with my back, I just do those subconsciously now

Flexing glutes while going up might really be a good idea.
But what I never understood is why I would flex them at the beginning for the lift, before I descend?

I don't get the point of it, because as soon as I sit down I need to relax my glutes in order to be physically able to get my hip back.
