I was hired out of a class in college by one of my Profs for his business. Working in an ancient language.
When his company collapsed, one of his former managers recommended me to my current employer. We've been bought several times. When the most recent company bought us, they closed the nearest office and told the developers to work from home. We do server side backend shit anyways, so it's not like where we are sitting matters. We communicate over Webex and Skype. Basically just work hard at the first place you land, and make connections. I'm 16 years into this shit, and it's all a direct line from my first employer and people seeing my work ethic.
