It makes such a huge deal out of developing functional strength while requiring you do a shitload of lightweight oly lifts, which are completely non-functional and designed to show off how strong you are with maximal weight.

First time I went was with a friend like 2 years ago. I asked him what it was like and he said "I never feel like they make me lift more than I can handle. They don't really push you too hard"
When I fucking got there they had me sign a waiver to make sure no sue and me being in healthy condition. One part there was asking about if you have any previous weightlifting experience. I put down 225 for squat, 275 for dl, and like 175 for bench. After filling out everything else, I handed it back to the dude. He was like "oh wow you already lift!"
So he went over some shit, then talked about the worjout. I don't remember most of it, just some sled thing we had to drag. One person is behind it, pushing and the other has a band to his torso and is pulling it simultaneously.
Right away I ask how much it weighs and he's like "eh, it's about 90ish but with the amount you lift we can put at least like 5 45lb plates!" to which I was like "nah bitch I'm not pulling that shit" so I just put 1 plate on there. The entire time the dude was all "you could have put more weight, cmon let's get more weight on there!"
Fast forward to the end of it. I'm puking my shit out while he watches with a shit eating grin on his face. He stops chucking just long enough to edge out an "I bet you can't get THAT with just lifting weights at a gym"
I fucking left then and there. Fuck that cunt, and fuck the idea of crossfit to push yourself past your limits, basically buying a one way ticket to snap city. That guy didn't know shit and was just a smug asshole.

Generally when I say "for reps" I mean a lot. Guess I should be more specific since you guys can't read my mind.

Anything over 6-8 reps DL is bullshit IMO. But I've seen guys doing 15 or more for multiple sets. Thats the kind of shit I'm talking about.

Even just one set of 15 is whatever, but the fat guy at work I was talking about earlier was telling me about how he did an absurd amount the other day. I forgot what exactly but it was something like a 1RM followed by a triple, followed by a 5 reps of a lighter weight, then 8, then 10 etc etc up to 20 or 30 reps of the bar.

And then go fucking figure he was talking about how much his knee and back hurt a couple days later. This dude is 50 years old btw.

They taught a 50 year old to do this.

I think I agree with this. My older brother does 4 sets of 10 deadlifts with lmao1pl8. Says it kills him the day after, and he also said he can't deadlift 250lbs. He weighs at least 200lbs. Meanwhile, I've been going to the gym for less than a year and can deadlift 365lbs while weighing 180lbs.

I've never understood the hate for crossfit. Sure, there's shit instructors. Sure shitty people do it. But it's a training modality that's interesting and is creating a lot of fucking strong people.

The strong people in Crossfit would be just as strong if not stronger if they spent the same amount of time and energy in a regular gym. There are a lot of people who did Crossfit that never got to be strong because they slipped a disc 4 weeks in.

In theory/on paper, Crossfit sounds great. Strength training and Cardio in one work out.

In practice, it's rarely done safely. I'm not saying every single Crossfit trainer is retarded, but the vast majority of them are. You might have that ONE trainer that did wrestling and Oly lifting through college, did two tours in Afghanistan, has multiple nationally credible PT certs like NASM or ACE, and he gives newbies appropriately skilled body weight or resistance band exercises their first few weeks or months in training. Guys like this are legit. Unfortunately guys like this are one in a fucking million in the Crossfit scene.

When Crossfit blew up in popularity, the demand skyrocketed, and the standards for becoming a trainer plummeted. It has been reduced to a 2-3 day course + shelling out the money to use the name "Crossfit". That's a level 1 trainer or some shit, more money and longer (although significantly inferior training compared to a national cert) to become a higher level trainer. Anyway, too many of these Crossfit gyms have weekend certified soccer mom Cardio bunny trainers teaching newbies with little to no experience in the gym do advanced, compound Olympic lifts with very little practice, with shit form because you're going AGAINST TIME. It's a fucking recipe for disaster.

Honestly 99% of what you'll get out of Crossfit you could get by looking up Sarah Jean Underwood's Nude Yoga on Pornhub and finding a steep hill for hill sprints, plus a regular gym membership, any uni gym will work or better yet buy your own equipment. It's so easy, it's incredibly cheap to get a good workout, stay mobile, develop skills and get stronger and leaner if you're not stupid. You don't even have to be smart, just don't be stupid and work really really hard. My uni gym costs about $100 a year (according to my tuition statements) but you could spend $200 on a squat rack and plates, find a steep hill, and watch Sara Jean Underwood pose naked and get 99% of what you'll get from Crossfit. The 1% is from having someone look at your form, but many cell phones have cameras now so that's a non-issue as well. It's just such a waste and people should be doing it themselves. You're essentially paying $300 a month for friends, and they wouldn't even be your friends if you weren't also part of the cult. It's such a ripoff and anyone who's not stupid could do just as well or much better without it.
