Why the FUCK do you not do weighted pull ups and chin ups?
>>
whats the best to do these if my gym has no belts or chains

dumbbell between the legs? hard to keep it in
>>
Because I can't do one pull-up at body weight ;_;
>>
Probably too heavy and don't know what equipment to use.

I can only do 8 completely strict pull-ups at 170.

>>

>>
>>36626049
How?
>get resistance bands
>have someone help you
>literally anything
If you can't do a pullup at body weight you need to drop some weight and start from square one.

I stopped doing them for a long time, but I had a good six months in the military I was doing them almost daily.
Now I can break out 10 or so no matter my weight.
>>
I just bought a chain today and am going to jerry rig something together tomorrow for weighted chins and dips.

Then some barbell curls and lightweight hammer curls.

Is this going to make my arms explode?
>>
>>36626027

i thought op pic was holding katanas for a moment there
>>
>>36626027
I'm holding off buying a dip belt until I can do 5 sets of 10 dead-hang to sternum chin ups.
>>
>>36626084
My arms are tiny I can rep 70lb chinups for 4-5 reps. My dips are 100lbs 5 reps. It's probably because of how much I weigh. 5'10 161.
>>
>>36626095
>to sternum

get your chin over the bar fag
>>
>>36626105
I don't know how your anatomy is laid out, but my chin is above my sternum.

no im just retarded
>>
Because I'm barely strong enough to do one pull up without weight
>>
>>36626261
The first one is the hardest. Once you can do one, getting stronger so you can do more is easy.
>>
>>36626272
>>36626261
yeah do lat pull downs and rows. strengthen your back and biceps and you're good pham

i've noticed that bulking fucks your pullups. when i was 10lbs lighter i could do 3 sets of 10, not i can do 1 set of 10 then 7-8 barely
>>
>>36626049
I can only do 2 but can OHP 60kg. Why
>>
>>36626046
I use a backpack at the house.
>>
>>36626102
Don't tell me that you prick. I have my hopes and dreams set on this making me huge

oh yeah that's a good idea

plus i already have a backpack
>>
>>36626286
>>36626261
>>36626272

Twice in my life I've gone from zero pull-ups to handful. Once, when I first started training, second, after an injury induced hiatus.

The first time, I used the assisted pull-up machine and within 2-3 months was able to migrate to real pull-ups.

The second time, I used a chair to assist my pull-ups.

Point being, don't do replacement exercises, so assisted pull-ups.
>>
>>36626298
I'm the opposite. I can chin 46kg but only 48kg ohp for 3 reps.
>>
>>36626305
At least you'll get a decent back from weighted chins. I haven't seen any improvements to my triceps with dips but my lower pecs have increased in size.
>>
>>36626305
You could actually get pretty decent arms just by doing weighted close grip chin ups and weighted dips. As long as you can keep increasing the weight when it gets too easy and not just doing 25 reps with 5kg or some shit
>>
>>36626313
I agree with this. Flex hangs, dead-hangs, negatives, "lat activators", assisted, all better than machine work.
>>
>>36626334
You do know there different techniques for tricep and chest dips right?

Chest - head down, lean forward, arms slightly out
Tris - head and body straight, keep arms at your side
>>
>>36626057
Just because you have a breast growing out of your shoulder does not mean you can't pursue exercise and fitness. Check your ignorance, familia.
>>
>>36626342
I only do weighted chins and dips. Include accessories if you care about arm size.
>>
>>36626072
Link?
>>
>>36626342
I plan to start out with a 25 pound plate. Just 3x5 and increase the weight based on how I feel. I think dips won't be too bad but my chin ups are probably going to be shit.
>>
>>36626357
Yeah. I didn't think it would make much of a difference, although they have increased in size. If I try to do tricep dips, my shoulders and sternum get fucked up, so I just stay with weighted chest dips.
>>
>>36626379
Don't expect to much progress on your arms for weighted chins. Most of it will go to your lats.

>>
>>36626366
Yeah I remember seeing an Elliot Hulse video once where he said the only 4 exercises you need are squats, deadlifts, dips and pull ups.

>>36626379
Yeah you'll probably find pull ups with 25 pounds are going to be a lot harder than you think. Dips with that much weight will probably be easier than you expect.

>>36626386
You should try doing diamond push ups for tris if you can't do dips.
>>
>>36626027

When you're not skele mode these become pretty pointless

After about a lean 180lbs its unlikely you'll have strength to add significant amounts of weight for a realistic number of reps
>>
>>36626451
Diamond push ups weighted? I don't really care about my triceps that much, I just care about my weighted chest dips going up. I'm so close to 3plates for 1 rep. They'll increase in size eventually because I can feel them fatigue on the last rep.
>>
>>36626298
Are you fat?
>>
>>36626500

Maybe if you're weak. Last time I was going "heavy", I was adding 70 lbs for sets of 5 on my pull-ups, at >190 lbs body weight. Body weight alone just won't do after a certain point.
>>
>>36626027
because i don't know if i should bother yet, i can do about 7 reps of chins or 5 reps of pull ups, the first 3 or 4 are easy though. is it better to try and reach 10 reps first or should i start doing weighted and just do doubles/ triples?

kek'd, Weighted pull-ups are god-tier.

I do though. That being said, I can't for the fucking life of be progress beyond 12,5kg for 7 reps. I wanna get that to 10 reps before moving up to 15kg. I've literally been stuck for like a month and a half now, any tips?
>>
>>36627691
How many reps can you do with 15kg?
>>
>>36627691
yeah. Do as many as you can with 12,5kg (so.. 7), then repeat this with lower weight (maybe 11 kg). Rinse and repeat until you are only doing bodyweight pull ups.
>>
>>36627691
Switch between heavy 5s (15-20kg), whatever is heavy for you and volume oriented work (0-10kg)
>>
>>36626027
Because my forearm is slightly inflamed and causes my elbow to hurt like hell if I do them.
I'm already fat as fuck, I don't need another 45lbs extra weight on my pullups.

Back pack like other anon said. If your gym has resistance bands, you can use one to tie some plates to your waist. You can just drop the cash and get a dip belt from Amazon. If your gym has chains you can drape them over your shoulder.

Gymnasts have harder movements than weighted pullups and dips. It's okay to do them. Just follow any progression scheme.
>>
because i weigh 230 lbs and just getting 4 bodyweight pullups is hell as is ;_;

Oh fuck I was made for this thread. Never see anyone at my college gym even close to me as far as weighted chins / pullups.

170lbs bw
115lbs chin 1 rep max

>>
>>36626065
Completely strict pullups and chin ups are a meme. It's good to get the full extension, but it's really just for showing off. For growth you want about 3/4 reps, cutting out the lockout at the top and the complete extension.
