Hey /fit/, I'm going to go to the gym for the first time today with the SS routine. Is there anything I should know that the book didn't tell me? Is there anything the book told me that you think I should absolutely not forget? Also, how do I use the clips, just put them on the end of the barbell and move it down? How long should I wait between sets?

Don't do as much weight as you can on the first day. Obviously progressive overload is important to getting stronger, but if you've never touched a weight it's better to familiarize yourself with a movement using a weight you can do for 20+ reps, until it feels less awkward. Some people recommend not going heavy for 4 weeks, but I think that's a bit excessive.

Form is the most important thing. Find the cutest guy in the gym and ask how you look when you're doing squats.

Also I'd start adding accessory stuff as soon as you get your core lifts down (after a couple months or so) because ss really does make your arms seem a bit smaller than your swol core, despite what everyone will tell you.

If you are not a skinny teenager, DONT do the GOMAD

Rest a minimum of 4 minutes between sets. The book does not stress on this enough, so Rip has to explain it numerous times in articles and Q&A - rest a lot between sets and as you start lifting heavier weights the rests will be 5-6 even 10 minutes.
