Weak people thread

Anyone else out there who still can't bench one plate on each side for 5 reps?
>>
Someone helped me out from a 120lb bench failure and asked me if it was a drop set ;_;

I went to the gym for like 3 months and made some noticeable changes and now I've arrived at uni i just sit in my room all day doing nothing despite spending around £150 on a year long gym membership

i want to die
why can't i find any motivation

do you mean $150? not that weird E/3 thing

also stop complaining, my membership is like $700 a year
>>
I am cutting right now and have had some pretty good results. Although they may be noob gains. I went from just the bar, to 1 plate in 7 weeks. In that time I have lost about 15 pounds. I am not sure if I am gaining any muscle mass, but I look a lot better. I started off at 186 at 5'10.

Moral of the story, stick to your regiment and incorporate progressive overload. I have had perfectly linear gains across the board for 7 weeks now.

I got to a 1pl8 bench by about 6 months I think but I've been lifting 3 years now and still don't think I could hit 2pl8 1rm (haven't tried since my last failure 6 months ago)
>>
>>36611666
what? my gym is pretty nice, so that's why it's so expensive. there's a huge pool, a basketball court, tennis court...hell, the actual weightlifting room is actually an afterthought, now that i think of it. it's about medium sized, perfect imo for the amount of people that go there.

it's pretty annoying how many kids are there though
>>
120 lbs 6'0 skele here
Currently practicing form on basic lifts with shitty home gym equipment
Can't actually bench 30kg more than 6 or 7 times

Too embarrassed to go to gym
Spent a month making sure I had 4 meals a day and was very slowly making gains then got tonsillitis couldn't eat for 4 days and lost it all.

I just can't seem to eat enough man. I'm just not hungry

Like what?

Oats for breakfast instead of cereal?
I usually have a sandwich/chips/chocolate/drink at work because it's quick and easy
Then come home and have rice and fish
Then have a dinner later which can be a wide variety of stuff but always has carbs and protein.
I try to fit in a bag of nuts most days too

I wish their was just a calorie pill or drink or whatever

I am approaching 2pl8 bench and I have never used a spotter either.

The only timed I ever failed was when I first started lifting and I would push myself too far. I just rolled it down my body and lifted it off. Even if I do fail now, I feel like I could do the roll thing because my grip is always proper.

I don't get why people do benchpress with a barbell when they have no spotter. It's such a hassle.
It's some much easier and safer to do it with dumbells when you're solo.
>>
>>36613220

At least your not as pathetic as people who can't even be bothered. Do what you gotta do mate, any is better than nothing and if you keep at it you'll eventually make it into something. This is a lifestyle choice after all, we're all in this for the long haul.
>>

Or just do it in a power rack. If the safety catches are set properly, they work just as good as (if not better than) a real spotter provided you're not a literal retard.

I don't use a spotter and I have never gone for 1rm but I can bench 80kg for reps. I'm pretty sure I could pump out 2pl8 for 1 rep but I'd never try it without a spot.

I've only been going to the gym for 3 months but on lifts like bench/squat etc where you can get stuck without a spotter I find it pretty easy to tell when I won't make another rep. Fear strength is enough to get me over the line the few times I've come close.

>>36613149
OHP always drags, that's normal. But your squat, deadlift and bench should honestly not be that close together. You generally should be able to deadlift more than you squat and squat more than you bench. For 3 weeks lifting something like 50 kg squats, 30 kg bench and 60 kg deadlift would be "normal".
>>
>>36613011
20 kg is the starter bench weight for males since you should start with the bar only and get the form down first. :1)

DELET THIS
>>
After losing all my gains and being depressed i'm on my way back up in bodyweight and lifting weight.

80kg bench 3x10
>>
Gonna ask for routine help here rather than start a new thread.

I started lifting last November, but 2 weeks in I got gallstones and had to stop until about 3 weeks ago, so I'm still on noob gains.

Workout A (push): 3x5 Squat, 3x5 Bench, 3x5 Dips
Workout B (pull): 3x5 Rows, 3x5 Deadlift, 3x5 Pull-Ups

Doing this on a ABx routine, with some cardio and calisthenics thrown in.

Got a bunch of questions need answering, so I'll just list them; any help is appreciated.

-I'm primarily training for /out/ shit, so I need to train the muscles involved in hiking with a heavy backpack. What lifts would do this best?

-I did have OHP in A, but I did it once and injured my upper back; after that had healed, I realised that it was because I can't rotate my shoulders to full vertical, I'm about 15deg out at full stretch. I know how important OHP is, so what do?

-My arms are weak as shit; I can only bench the bar, and I'm stuck doing negatives on dips, incapable of doing pull-ups (my gym has no way of doing leg-assisted pull-ups). I'm confident that I'll progress on the bench and dips, but are there any better exercises to supplement these, and what do about the pull-ups?

-My ankles are weak as shit, which is affecting my squat form; I'm still progressing, but I'm having to roll on to my toes when I bottom out, and I'm barely reaching horizontal thighs. If this is a problem, what do?

-I realise my routine is missing a few things, but what are they?

The weights I'm managing:

Bench - 20kg (just the bar)
Squat - 55kg
Rows - not sure, haven't decided whether I prefer dumbbell or barbell rows. Did 17.5kg dumbbells today though.
Deads - 55kg again, but I think I can do 60kg now, my back and legs are really doing well

All on 3x5, forgot to mention
>>
>>36616007
Compound exercises primarily and up your sets and reps to 5x5. Build pure strength for /out/ shit.

If you can't do pullups do lat pulldowns with less than your body weight

for OHP, a lot of shoulder machines have you push upwards and slightly forwards anyway, its fine. Just lower your weight because its obviously harder being away from your body and do it with the angle your comfortable with.

No idea how to fix your ankles.
>>
>>36615914
this, I hardly lift at all any more but guys at my work ask for a hand to lift one thing that I wouldn't hesitate to lift 4-5 of at a time.
>>
>>36616064
Good thinking, will do.

I thought of doing pulldowns and a military press machine, but I started with a machine for benching, and the difference between that and free weights is huge,, and has really put me off machines. Is this just a necessary evil until I'm strong enough for the real thing?

That's okay, knowing that it definitely is an issue, I can probably fix it with unweighted squats at home. Just wanted to be sure before I start torturing my legs (I walk everywhere and run for cardio, so my legs never get a rest day as it is).

My Pendlay Row is some depressing shit, I'd up the weight but I think I struggle with the form

Got any tips on how to do it right? I know you're supposed to kind-of jerk it, but I've also been told you need to be strict with your form too and focus on the back contraction and try to keep the body level and legs stiff

How do you do it without ending up leaning into the weight a bit and putting it into the legs? Or is that what you're supposed to do?
>>
>>36611045

I've been working out at home for a year, I was doing weighted push ups instead of bench because no bench. According to the scale I was pushing up 60lbs with just body weight, and I was up to adding 90 lbs extra when doing weighted. So I was all well 60 + 90 = 150, therefore I can bench over 1plate.

So I just got a gym membership and went to benchpress, started low just to warm up, I maxed out at 110 lbs. I was very disappointed.

Also 2 days later failed a 5x5 at 120 lbs had to use safeties. Guess I should stick to 5lb increases.
>>
>>36617291
5lb progression for week is the gold standard really senpai

Unless you're roiding anything more is going to be super difficult and it's an easy number to work with while not being too slow to make a difference and still keeping you working hard
