Anyways, she texted me today to go to the gym and I didn't respond so she called and I just told her I'd prefer working out alone and I don't want her as my gym buddy. She was just like "oh...okay" with a sad voice.

For as hard as it was to tell her that you didn't want to work out with her anymore, you could've just used those autism energy bytes to explain to her why working out with her isn't working, That then gives her the opportunity to understand: WHY you don't want to work out with her, and it also potentially opens up an opportunity for her to respond with a little bit more flexibility and open-mindedness if you two do work out together in the future.

Instead of saying something like "I want to focus when I workout so at certain points I'm gonna listen to music and not talk to you.
