Is having a high calorie cheat day when cutting beneficial to your metabolism or is it bro science?
I've been cutting at 1800 calories a day since March 1st and have been successful at keeping on track, but every saturday I've jumped off the wagon and ate a bunch of shit about 3000 calories or more.
So far I've lost 8 lbs so I know my cut is working, but are those high calorie days doing more harm than good?

yeah, a SENSIBLE cheat meal/day every 1-2 weeks is good when doing a hard cut.

personally i like to cut hard af at a 750-1k calorie deficit and have a cheat meal on friday which ends up around maintenance or a little over. keeps me psychologically sound and doesn't derail my progress

Generally no, but your body does get "used" to things. That being said, drastic cuts generally will only work efficiently for a couple weeks. Progress will slow after that, unless you have 100lbs to lose.

The bigger the deficit, the bigger the cheat meal.

If your deficit is only 500 calories, eat 500 over maintenance on your cheat day

If its 1000 calories, eat 1000 calories over maintenance

Maintenance kcal would be a refeed. Cheat day insinuates going over maintenance. Whatever really; I cut with PSMF and have a maintenance of like 36-3800 kcal so I just order pizzas on refeeds. Chillin in the 7-9% range.

1800 calories isnt' a drastic cut. So long as your cheat days help you stay on track, go for it. But I wouldn't say they are generally beneficial. Although leptin and junk like others have said. But if you aren't cutting carbs too low, which it seems you aren't, then a cheat day won't have much benefit other than mental sanity.
