Do you have this muscle, /fit/?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palmaris_longus
Yeah, nothing special.
I didn't know this was something some people didn't have
>>36531542
Of course, hell most people have it.
There's only 14% of the population doesn't have it according to the article.
So that's a whopping 86% that does.
>>36532237
Yeah, but those 14% are forearmlets.
>lack of this muscle has no effect on grip strength
Yeah, I fucking doubt it.
>>36532299
Well that goes without saying.
>>36531542
Only 60% incident rate amongst Nigerians.
>>36532378
I'm Nigerian myself, and I don't have this muscle. 7in wrist circumference tho
>>36531542
Is it possible to only have it on one side? I have that tendon on my right wrist but not on my left.
>>36532427
Yes. 50M mericans have it only only one arm. 20M have it in neither.
>>36532427
this.i only have it in my left arm.
>>36531542
Yeah
>>36532311
It's a wrist flexor with no attachment to any fingers. Pretty obvious that it wouldn't affect grip strength.
>>36532550
Then how come it flexes when I move my thumb to the other side of my hand?
>>36532398
>I'm Nigerian
>>36531542
I'm missing part of mine. It got moved to repair a complete tear of my scapholunate ligament.
>>36532823
It's connected to the fascia of the palm, so any movement of it (specially tensing when you move the thumb across) is gonna contract the muscle.
But it's not really involved in grip strength (grip strength comes from your fingers, not your palm or your wrist).

flexing the wrist isn't its main function, its main function is keeping tension in the palmar aponeurosis in your palm.
But you're right that it doesn't affect grip strength, since the muscle's main function isn't flexion in the wrist/fingers anyways and even the small amount of flexion it can exert is so insignificant since the muscle is so small. It's basically just a long tendon with a very tiny muscle belly that tightens your palmar aponeurosis.

>arguing the main function of a muscle that barely has any function at all
>>36531542
Wow I actually learned something on /fit/ today.
>>36533588
You're right, I just thought the muscle looked cool when we were dissecting the forearm is all
>>36533644
*since it's basically just a long tendon
>>36533588
If it's a muscle it can be trained.
You probably can't even wiggle your ears, buddy.
You should go and enjoy your devolution someplace else.
