It literally CAN'T work any other way. There are just different ways to achieve a calorie deficit. Keto, for example, is effective enough for many people that they don't need to count calories. That does NOT mean they can eat at a calorie surplus and lose weight, it just means they can eat, feel full, and stop eating, without actually tracking anything.

It isn't a 1:1 relation between calories in/calories out, but eating less will almost invariably make you lose weight.

Exercising will cause you to gain muscle, which will, in turn, increase your metabolism, as well.

People have a huge psychological investment in coming up with excuses for their behavior, which is why all the studies saying it's actually impossible to lose weight and that you shouldn't even try gain so much traction. This is demonstrably bullshit. It's a lifestyle change, and it's a big one, but you'll feel better, gain discipline for other aspects of your life, and, since this is 4chan, get a bigger dick.
