Yes QM is quantum mech. I'm a PhD student in condensed matter theory so the peers that I know of all came from physics backgrounds (and I from a math background), even some of the more numerically inclined people.
If you're a CSfag looking to get into QM then I'd suggest quantum computing or quantum information, but you're gonna have to do a bit more math.

typically not really a reader but there are so many references I got from this that I had a blast reading it. If you were born in the 80s or 90s its basically a must read because it captures our consciousness so well
