Completely new to this thread but here goes.

Want to join the Royal Marines but I'm pretty unfit (not obese or anything, just out of shape)

I'm 17 and have like 4-5 months to get as fit as possible. Yet again, new to the thread so I'm not sure if this is an ok thread, but thanks anyway
>>
Run a lot.

Do a lot of pushups and pull ups.

Try to get a weighted vest to run in.
>>
Dont forget to get gud at swimming.

theyll make you do laps in a pool for hours with 100 pounds on your back.
>>
>>36498591
5 months is not long enough to go from shit to RM.
>>
>>36498591
What's your fitness level now

You need to be VERY VERY fit to even think about joining the Royal Marine Commandos
>>
I didn't mean thread, I meant board, sorry
>>
The whole process begins in about 5 months. I wouldn't begin training until September 2017
>>
>>36498591
You might want to keep in mind you will get banned on any board (not just NSFW boards) for saying you're under 18.

Global rules, second rule:
>You will immediately cease and not continue to access the site if you are under the age of 18.
>>
Ah ok, thanks for the heads up
>>
>>36498591
Go too the Legit Royal marine Forum and ask/lurk there

http://www.royalmarines.uk/

Probably Better than listening too a bunch of Korean Shillposters on a chinese tapestry board
>>
Run, you need to be running at least 10 miles 3 times a week

Plus push ups, sit ups, pull ups, etc

Don't bother with weights except for getting a good level of strength
>>
Step one : be inferior to the USMC
>>
I'm talking from experience when I say you need much longer than 4 months. Royal Marine training is one of the hardest most arduous basic trainings in the world. You'd need to give yourself at least a year. That being said you need to structure your training. With the Royal Marines being fit just isn't enough. You'll need a certain amount of muscular strength and endurance if you even dream of finishing the 30 miler. Any more specific questions feel free to ask, being a bootneck is a great achievement
>>
>>36498659
Cheers, thanks for the info
>>
>>36498664
I'm not even British and I know how good the Royal Marines are

USMC is leagues below, probably on par with regular Brit army
>>
>>36498664
US marines are notoriously shit m8
>>
Do lots of conditioning shit. Be sure to work yourself to the point of death.

Maybe get your dad to shout at you and fuck your bedroom up and make you clean it again.
>>
>>36498591
enjoy your ban.
>>
I don't want to dishearten you but you have until your 32 years old to join. Better to spend a year or so getting into peak physical performance and increasing your chances of passing than risking injury or failure due to not being fully prepared
>>
>>36498591
The mods are gods and you're going to get smited brah
>>
>>36498667
The reason I'm starting now is to get ready for the BFT at the recruitment office, aiming for around September - November. Not considering POC until this time next year. Enough time? or should i push it back more?
>>
>>36498667
Not him but im getting in my countrys military in 3 months from now.

Now im doing strength training(3 times a week SL5x5) and running twice a week. Ive been feeling a bit of shin splints lately.

Should I just skip strength training all together? My squat is at 95kgx5, deadlift 125kgx5, OHP 50kgx5 and bench 70kgx5

Thats what I'm planning. There is some new scheme we you join for a year, get experience, go uni, come back and live the high life
>>
Okey, If you know how to transelate I can post the norwegian special forces program.

https://forsvaret.no/tjeneste/trening/styrke/tren-som-en-spesialsoldat

at the bottom is 24 weeks training program.

good luck, you will need it.
>>
>>36498722
Impossible to tell you when you'll be ready as there are so many variables. Diet, training regularity, intensity and current physical fitness levels will all play a part. The guys at the careers office have all been in your shoes, and all achieved what you wish to achieve, so use them for any information you need.

The careers office will provide you with a good workout routine, and any other information needed is readily available. What I can't stress is how easily available the fitness standards are online, and how unprepared so many people turn up.
>>
>>36498786
cheers mate. I have to say /fit/ is a lot friendlier than I thought you'd be, don't know why
>>

>>

Thanks, I know it all come down to me and my current condition etc. I turned to /fit/ because I was getting stumped on how to actually start training.
>>
>>36498828
xD grata /int/ bantz
>>
>>36498591

I'm an American who's done lots of training and partner exercises with you guys. Just fucking run a lot. You'll get good at the other stuff training leading up to becoming a royal Marine, but if you're in great cardio shape you'll be ready for it all. Those fuckers run all the time

Don't sweat the pool stuff too much. Most of the guys that have come to do training over here with us are garbage in the pool, so it can't be that big of a deal.

Shit idea mate. Sure don't be a weakling, but muscular endurance is more important.

you should also learn to navigate, set camp and live in the nature for a few days with others and alone.
Here is some more if you bother to transelate

http://milforum.net/showthread.php/64380-Marinejeger-opptak-2016?s=c482e793f6deb7a9e716c33075500215

it is questions about trainig and the tests
>>
>>36498970
Do you know the standards? Tbh I'd aim for at least 60 full pushups in 2min, and 10 full rom pullups.
>>
>>36498873
I like how that one video always gets used in this reoccurring dick measuring contest. You can't talk shit till you've been there. I doubt anyone in this thread has. If they have I'm willing to bet they are American military. They just happen to be engaged in more conflicts of this nature.
>>
>>36498970
>>
>>36498848
In norway if you dont have,
400m in 8min
25m underwater swimming
you are out during day 2, this is after the running and strength tests.
>>
Yea I know the standards. My main question is how do I get from lard arse to someone who can do 60 push ups in 2mins. Is it as simple as get off my arse and do some or is there a program to follow which breaks it down into manageable chunks
>>
>turn up at Army selection
>most of the other candidates were retarded as fuck chavs, even the ones going for the roles which required GCSEs
>get called in at the end of selection to speak to the officer and he said I scored in the 97th percentile on my BARB and had exemplar fitness

Cancelled my phase 1, I couldn't deal with simpletons like that for 4 years.

Cheers, If its not broken i suppose. Ill stick to this thanks for the effort
>>
>>36499018
Yeah, man, there's lots of forces out there with rough swim standards. I'm a recon Marine and a 25m underwater crossover (in cammies) and a timed 500m swim is also part of our initial screening and selection. Like I said though, I've worked with plenty Royal Marine's who are absolute shit in the pool, so I'm guessing its not a stringent requirement for them.
>>
>>36499067
but whats the day to day like in the USMC, is it PT and admin stuff with the rare training exercise?
>>
>>36498736
Shin splints are from running. Fix your fucking form and maybe get better shoes. Midfoot strike mate
>>
>>36499094
All depends on your job and your unit, man. My primary MOS is Arabic Linguist. I'm in a 2 month language course at a university in civilian clothes every day. I kind of bounce back and forth between schools and deployments, and when I'm home I just chill and do my own thing/workout with bros in my unit.

Most of the Marine corps is what you described, though.
>>
>>36499137
>I'm in a 2 month language course at a university in civilian clothes every day

I mean currently that's what I'm doing. Just an example of stuff you can end up doing.
>>
>>36498591
step 1: get b&
>>
>>36499164
That's why I'm partially interested in joining the armed forces, Ill get them to pay for me to get an education
>>
>>36499173
I hope not, just when I was starting to like you guys
>>
>>36499185
If that's your only goal, there is no reason to do anything besides the Air force. You will get treated the best and receive the most benefits/funding. I'll call you a pussy though.
>>
>>36499199
fuck no. I'm joining because I want to be in an infantry unit, and if they want to pay me to get an education, why not?
>>
>>36499225
You won't get cool opportunities like that if you just go grunt. Either go contract recon and put in a special forces package, or find another way to specialize.

Check out Marine Corps Radio Reconnaissance and Army SOT-A's
>>
>>36499254
Considering the Brits Royal Marines. Going to go ahead as an officer because I can serve in infantry and get better pay (also , I've got the grades to become one)
>>
>>36499292
Right on. Check out Y Squadron of the Royal Marines. I work with them often and its very interesting stuff that will get you some awesome training.
>>
>>36499330
Too late mate, already considering them. The good thing with the RM is that you can become general infantry for a bit, then specialise such as the Y Squadron (or thats what I've heard)
>>
>>36498664
Not possible you knuckle dragging retard. I'd join the USMC but I scored too high on the ASVAB and now I can't be a marine
